What happened next was an incredible surprise for Ella - tickets to see Taylor Swift in Paris with her mum and three best friends.

“You are so strong and resilient,” Carrie said to an ecstatic Ella.

“We also know that your family loves you very much. And that we couldn’t have done this surprise without one really important person in your life. Your mum.

You are not going to see a show tonight … you are going to Paris. You’ve bloody earnt it.”

At the end of the segment, a tearful Peter remarked: “Must be the first good news (all week).”

Tommy Little piped up: “I mean, it is such a gorgeous thing to do. The Gogglebox Australia segment that brings everyone to tears

The families of Gogglebox Australia were sent to tears as they sat down to watch celebrity chef Kylie Kwong on an episode of Anh’s Brush With Fame.

Speaking to comedian Anh Do, Kwong opened up about two heartbreaking moments in her life, including a time when she and her partner Nell lost their son.

Explaining that it took four years for Nell to fall pregnant, Kwong recalled crying “for 10 hours straight” after Nell’s waters broke five months early.

“In the end we felt blessed he lived for six days … inside Nell, alive, and then he let go,” Kwong said. “But the six days was profound.”

The story moved Sarah Marie, who is pregnant with her first child with husband Matty, to tears. “I can’t even imagine what they went through,” she said.

Kwong’s loss also led Tim to share a similar situation he had gone through. “I went through something just as hard,” he said as his sister Leanne comforted him. “I was a father, I had been told it was successful... and then to have it ripped away, it is the most heart-wrenching thing I’ve ever had to go through.”

Kwong also shared about how she came out to her parents in her teenage days.

“It was a very lonely time, because I didn’t even know what was going on inside of me,” Kwong said. She eventually told her father, “Dad, I’m gay”.

In response, Kwong was told to leave the house in a matter of days, with her father saying, “I disown you as my daughter”. However, he later backtracked and asked her to stay.

Tim resonated with the story, reflecting on his own struggle in coming to terms with his sexuality. “Even during my time, as a way to fight against this innate internal urge, I deliberately went out and looked for girlfriends,” he said.

Former Today host Karl Stefanovic has defended his Channel 9 colleague Deborah Knight after she revealed that she spends part of everyday “just dealing with trolls”.

Knight was being interviewed by Stefanovic on radio station 2GB when she revealed just how bad the trolls are.

“I don’t want to beat up the impact that the trolls are having on me because I’m a tough cookie and I’m in the public eye,” she started off.

“I’ve got to work to make a living and I shouldn’t have to apologise for that.
Channel 7’s Sunrise has come under fire as viewers accused the breakfast morning show of repeating “government propaganda” in the Newstart debate.

In a controversial segment on Wednesday morning, newsreader Natalie Barr announced new figures from the government, which she described as “showing just how many dole bludgers are trying to take advantage of the welfare system”.

The figures show that 78 per cent of Newstart recipients have had their payments suspended at least once over the last year for missing their job obligations, such as looking for work, going to interviews or following up on referrals.

61,747 people on the benefit received 10 suspensions or more.

“An alarming number of people on Newstart are being penalised,” Barr said.

The segment was slammed for resurrecting the “dole bludger” stereotype, with viewers saying the show’s framing of the issue was “demeaning” and “disgraceful”. Channel 9 slammed over "racist" and "disgusting" segment

Channel 9 have been slammed on social media for presenting a “racist” and “disgusting” segment on Korean band BTS.

On Wednesday night, the show 20 to One featured BTS in its list-based ranking of the latest global crazes.

Co-hosts Erin Molan and Nick Cody referred to the seven-member group as the “biggest band you’ve never heard of” and “the South Korean One Direction”.

The co-hosts mentioned the band had become the first Korean act to have a number one single in the US even though “only one member actually speaks English”.

Cody also joked that the group talked about “hair products” in their speech at the United Nations last year.

The segment also featured commentaries by celebrities. In one of the aired clips, comedian Jimmy Carr said, “When I first heard something Korean had exploded in America, I got worried. So I guess, it could have been worse. But not much worse.”

Actor and Australian Idol finalist Rob Mills also called the group’s singing “passable”.

BTS fans have panned the segment on social media for their “racist” depiction of the band, leading the hashtag #Channel9Apologise to trend on Twitter.

I'm sorry but as an Australian this is embarrassing. Death of the Today show? Donald Trump segment leaves viewers cringing

Channel Nine’s Today show just can’t seem to catch a break.

With their already plummeting ratings, the breakfast show chose to air a cringeworthy segment this morning as they featured a Donald Trump impersonator.

Hosts Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight awkwardly giggled along as comedian John Di Domenico presented his skit of the US president which he tailored for Aussie audiences.

The interview started off confusing straight off the bat as the two hosts didn’t introduce John by his own name, but by claiming that they were interviewing Trump himself.

As they crossed “live” to Washington D.C., John said: “Hello, Australia. I know how much you love me. And I just want to let you love me. And I just want to let you know everything’s going great!”

The President of the United States, @realDonaldTrump has a very special message for all of his Australian fans! 🇺🇸🇺🇸 #9Today pic.twitter.com/1ewYaDIrRK
— The Today Show (@TheTodayShow) June 12, 2019

The actor is known for his impersonations of Trump, which he has been doing for 12 years. He then took aim at the leader of the free world and referenced the Mueller Report.

He also issued a few awkward compliments to the presenters.

“I just wanted to share it with you, my favourite people, the Australians, especially Deb and Georgie, who by the way, you look tremendous. You look really, really incredible. I have to tell you!” he said.

The two, who were in on the joke, then asked the comedian about Trump’s recent visit to the Queen and Scott Morrison’s election win which took the country by surprise.

“Scott Mo. I love that name. That’s a good one, I have to tell you,” said John, who deliberately mispronounced Morrison’s nickname, ScoMo.

“Highly insulting”: Fans slam The Project over welfare segment

A segment on The Project about a Newstart recipient welfare program has divided viewers and been labelled as “offensive” after the lighthearted nature of it turned sinister.

On Wednesday night’s episode, the Channel 10 show featured comedian Sam Taunton appearing in what was supposed to be a humorous package, in which he spent a whole day living on $40 per day as a Newstart recipient.

In the five-minute segment, Taunton bought a bag of chips from the service station for breakfast, spent $4.40 on a coffee in a café ,while searching for job on his laptop and buying a $16 avocado toast for brunch.

This week leaders of both the Libs and Labor acknowledged that living on the Newstart allowance would be difficult. How many people on Newstart watched this, and switched off? Shameful, and nasty,” one viewer said in regard to the Newstart segment.

Another added: “And he wasted that money on a packet of chips, a takeaway coffee, avocado on toast, and alcohol. If he was trying to prove a point, he failed.

“As someone who struggles to live on NewStart, this segment was highly insulting.”

“As a daughter of a single mother, who was on Newstart, I HAVE lived off noodles regularly in the past. Thanks for making a mockery of those who are struggling to live. Disgusting,” another comment read.

This whole segment about Newstart on #TheProjectTV is offensive and ridiculous. "Highly offensive": Sunrise hit with lawsuit over controversial segment

Channel Seven is being sued for defamation over a controversial segment on its Sunrise breakfast program.

In March 2018, Sunrise aired a segment on non-Indigenous families caring for Aboriginal children who have been exposed to abuse, the ABC reported.

Residents of Yirrkala, a remote Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory, have launched a lawsuit alleging the network had defamed 15 people by broadcasting insufficiently blurred footage of them for the segment.

Lawyer Peter O’Brien said the adult and children community members were still identifiable even after a blurring filter was used.

The footage was originally shot with the residents’ permission to illustrate a story on a health initiative in the community, but O’Brien said the negative context of the Sunrise segment put it in a different light.

“Simply picking up this footage and playing it behind that sort of context, particularly with the very sorry message that’s being pushed in this particular program, is very disturbing,” he said.

“The plaintiffs assert that the segment about child sexual abuse and the forced removal of children while showing identifiable images of innocent people is defamatory.”

O’Brien said the people featured in the footage, which had been alluded as having abused, assaulted or neglected children, “should not be depicted in this manner in the context of this program, just because they are Aboriginal.”

In the segment, where the issue was discussed by an all-white panel, Sunrise host Samantha Armytage incorrectly claimed that Indigenous children could not be fostered by non-Indigenous families. “Post-Stolen Generation, there’s been a huge move to leave Aboriginal children where they are, even if they’re being neglected in their own families,” she said at the time.

Panellist Prue MacSween also said, “Just like the first Stolen Generation, where a lot of children were taken because it was for their wellbeing, we need to do it again, perhaps.”

The segment was found to have breached the commercial television industry code of practice due to its inaccuracy and “strong negative generalisations about Indigenous people as a group”.

It also sparked massive backlash, with viewers describing the panel discussion as “blatantly racist”, “incredibly offensive” and “a new low”. Days after the segment was broadcast, more than 100 people gathered outside Channel Seven’s Martin Place headquarters to protest the network, the ABC reported.

Channel Seven emphasised that the footage had been blurred. “The proceedings relate to some footage used in the background to the story which was blurred to prevent any person being identified and Seven is able to defend the case on that basis,” the network’s spokesman said.

“We can’t comment further as the matter is before the court.”

The ongoing case will resume in the Federal Court.

Sunrise has copped a flood of backlash on social media after running a controversial segment on Aboriginal children yesterday morning, with many viewers accusing the morning program of “blatant racism” and “bottom feeding”.

The discussion in question was prompted by controversial comments from Federal Children’s Minister David Gillespie, who said white families should be allowed to adopt indigenous children to protect them from assault and neglect.

Sunrise host Samantha Armytage said: “Post-Stolen Generation, there’s been a huge move to leave Aboriginal children where they are, even if they’re being neglected in their own families.”

Panellist Prue MacSween didn’t hold back, saying removing the kids was a “no-brainer” and that there was a “conspiracy of silence and fabricated PC outlook that it’s better to leave them in this dangerous environment.”

MacSween, who has be criticised for stoking controversy in the past, added, “Don’t worry about the people who decry and handwring and say, this will be another Stolen Generation.

“Just like the first Stolen Generation, where a lot of children were taken because it was for their wellbeing, we need to do it again, perhaps.”

But if viewers thought they were going to get a balanced view from the other panellist, Ben Davis, they were mistaken, with the Brisbane radio host claiming Mr Gillespie’s proposal was, spelling out “what a lot of politicians are afraid to say.”

“We need to be protecting kids, we need to be protecting Aboriginal kids and putting them back into that culture, what culture are they growing up seeing?” he addeds.

“Well, they’re getting abused, they’re getting hurt and they’re getting damaged.”

Armytage wrapped up the segment by saying, “let’s hope some sense prevails there.”

But the response on social media has been swift, with many viewers accusing the breakfast program of skewed reporting and at worst out and out racism.

@sunriseon7 is someone going to be held responsible for the appalling comments made during this incredibly offensive and nationally shameful piece of breakfast television?
— Emma Pegrum (@emma_pegrum) March 13, 2018

No? But the suggestion that ONLY white families should take them, is a terrible inference that suddenly EVERY Aboriginal family is bad.

“Also the reference at the end it the video that Warren Mundine supports the idea, incorrect as well, Mundine does not support white families taking in abused Aboriginal children, he agrees with the consensus that these children need to be removed from these abusive environments.”

Seven has responded to these claims, with a spokesperson telling Fairfax Media, “Editorial opinions, either written or articulated are a vital part of journalism.

“At all times on Sunrise, respect for others and their values and opinions is a foundation principle in debates.

“The issue raised by the page one article in today’s newspapers around the country warranted a discussion in a fair and reasonable forum, as undertaken by social commentators Prue MacSween and Ben Davis.”

What are your thoughts? Does the segment go to far? Or is it a case of political correctness gone mad?
