The nominees for this year’s Logie Awards were revealed in Sydney today, with both the previous host and this year’s MC among those competing for the biggest prize of the night.

Seven well-known television personalities are in contention for the Gold Logie: Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Poh Ling Yeow, Robert Irwin, Sam Pang and Todd Woodbridge.

For Morris, the nomination marks a fifth straight year in the Gold Logie race. The I’m A Celeb co-host is still chasing her first win.

Speaking at the event, Morris said the past year had been a “tricky” one following the end, or in her words the “rested”, status of the show she hosted with Irwin on Ten.

“I feel a bit shocked. After last year, four nominations, I thought: Let someone else have a go.

It’s been a tricky year. It was part of the bell curve of show business, but this is a lovely section of the bell curve – to come along and be celebrated by peers,” Morris said.

Last month, a 10 spokesperson said: “We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms.

“We look forward to working with [current hosts] Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects,” the statement added.

A new award category has also been added this year, with the Logies introducing The Bruce McAvaney Award for Most Popular Sports Presenter. McAvaney is nominated in the category named after him, alongside Danika Mason, Eddie McGuire, James Bracey, Jelena Dokic and Ricky Ponting.

Irwin will host the ceremony at The Star Sydney on Sunday, August 16.

The 22-year-old replaces Sam Pang, who fronted the Logies for the past three years and earned strong reviews for his performances. Pang had been asked to return but chose not to, saying last month, “I’m well aware I may never do it again, and whoever does it I’m sure will do a great job, but I just thought three was a nice number”.

In a statement, Irwin said hosting the Logies is “one of the most exciting things I’ve been asked to do”.

“Throughout my life, my goal has been to spread an important message not only through our work at Australia Zoo, but also on the screen,” he said.

Irwin did not attend today’s Logie nominees announcement, so Morris instead brought along a cardboard cutout of him as the Gold Logie contenders posed for the media.
