Radio host Dan Anstey is leaving Triple M Brisbane at the end of the year to take on a new role with Nine’s Today show.

Anstey announced his departure from the Marto, Margaux & Dan breakfast program live on air, telling listeners there was “good news and there’s bad news”.

“The good news is for people who are fans of people with juvenile sound effects, but I am leaving Triple M,” he said.

The host confirmed he would remain on air until December.

“It’s not happening for six weeks, so I’ll be around until December to annoy you,” he joked.

Co-host Margaux Parker said she was sad to see him leave but excited about his future.

“We are sad to see you go but so excited for you because an incredible opportunity lies ahead,” she said. “I mean that face was always too good to be stuck behind a microphone.”

Anstey will take on a dual role at Today, presenting weather on weekdays and joining Alison Piotrowski and Lizzie Pearl as a co-host of Weekend Today from next year.

He will also work alongside newly appointed weekday hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort.

Anstey has occasionally presented weather on Today over the past four years, but the new position will make him a permanent member of the breakfast TV team.

He and his family will relocate from Brisbane to Sydney for the role.

“I feel like a kid in a candy store who got to choose my two favourite lollies,” Anstey said.

“This truly is the best of both worlds – getting out with our viewers when presenting weather and then joining Ali and Lizzie in the studio bringing the latest news, sport and entertainment each weekend. I can’t wait to be part of it all,” he added.

It has not yet been announced who will replace Anstey on Triple M.

His departure comes amid several changes across Australian radio and breakfast television.

Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little recently announced their Carrie & Tommy show would end in December after 10 years, while The Hot Hits presenters Nic Kelly and Loren Barry confirmed their program would finish early next year.

Today has also undergone a series of changes following Karl Stefanovic’s departure, with Sarah Abo, Danika Mason and Tim Davies also announcing their exits in recent months.
