This November, 22 cruises leave Sydney on 10 ships from the six cruise lines we track, and with that much on offer in the same month, the advertised fare is the least useful place to start. What should decide your sailing is duration and itinerary shape – not which cruise line’s marketing looks shiniest.

Sailings run from 3 nights to 35, a genuine spread from a long weekend taster to a season-length voyage, and matching that shape to your own holiday is the choice that actually matters.

A season restarting with room to move

The Australian cruise season is restarting this month, and November sailings are among the first full-season departures out of Sydney. Ships embark at Circular Quay or White Bay with no tendering required to start or finish the cruise, though island and reef calls further into longer itineraries can mean a tender port – worth checking itinerary by itinerary before you book.

Carnival runs eight of the 22, on two ships based in Sydney all month – Carnival Adventure and Carnival Splendor – mostly three- and four-night short breaks, plus a 10-night sailing on 28 November. Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas adds four more of 3 to 9 nights. The longer voyages belong to Princess (Grand Princess, Crown Princess and Royal Princess, 9 to 29 nights), Celebrity, Viking and Holland America, whose Noordam runs the longest at 35 nights. Cruise Guru tracks 503 cruises across 38 ships sailing out of Sydney in total, useful context for how this November’s 22 departures sit inside a much larger market.

What the fares actually include

Fares move daily and differ by cabin, so we don’t quote them here. What matters more is what the headline fare leaves out.

Headline fares on these lines don’t include gratuities – the daily service charge added to your onboard account – and none include drinks packages, wifi or most shore excursions. Most are quoted per person twin share too, so solo travellers should expect a single supplement on top before the number means anything useful.

Why itinerary shape matters more than the brochure

Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess is a good example of how itinerary shape changes a holiday more than the fare does. She departs Sydney at 6.00pm on 25 November 2026 and opens with two full sea days before the first Queensland call, giving a settling-in rhythm before the port-heavy stretch begins at Airlie Beach.

The port days themselves run on generous windows rather than rushed mornings – Yorkeys Knob is 9.00am to 7.00pm, Port Douglas 8.00am to 6.00pm – giving a full day ashore without an early start. Willis Island also shows on the schedule, but only as a one-hour scenic sailing stop. No gangway, no tender, no landing – worth knowing before you picture an afternoon on a beach there.

Shore excursions on that sailing are offered at up to 40% off through a third-party excursions marketplace, which is a different arrangement from a cruise line bundling tours into the fare. Confirm what you’re actually buying before setting it against a Carnival sailing’s inclusions, because a discount on an add-on is not the same thing as an inclusion.

Before you book

Longer sailings carry fewer departure dates and less flexibility on cabin choice than the 10 to 14-night options, so cabin categories on something like Crown Princess‘s 29-night voyage tend to sell down earliest. With November only weeks away, booking now buys cabin choice rather than a cheaper fare, so weigh that against how fixed your own dates are.

November sailings into Queensland and the South Pacific sit in the build-up to the wet season, so check each itinerary’s specific ports for heat and humidity rather than assuming the whole month behaves the same way everywhere. Anything running past 3 weeks is also worth a careful read of your travel insurance, particularly medical cover and cancellation terms for the more remote South Pacific calls.

There is a strong spread of genuine choice here for Sydney cruisers, but the advertised fare is only the entry price. Check gratuities, drinks packages and shore excursions against each other before comparing lines on sticker price alone.

Whatever you choose, the start of the holiday looks the same from every one of those 22 departures – the Harbour Bridge and Opera House sliding past as the ship turns for open water, and not an airport queue in sight. The only real decision left is how many nights you want that feeling to last.
