Russell Hill's daughter shares her outrage over Greg Lynn's sentence

Russell Hill's daughter has expressed her anger over the jury's verdict of former pilot Greg Lynn, who was found not guilty for Hill's murder.

Greg Lynn faced a lengthy trial over the deaths of campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, but after a week of jury deliberations, was only found guilty for the murder of Carol and was cleared of charges relating to Russell's death.

Following the shock verdict, Hill's daughter Debbi, said she was “angry” at the jury and that she felt her father didn’t get the justice he deserved.

“It’s new, we’ve only just found out, but the more I think about it, the more angry I get at the fact that it didn’t have to be this way,” Ms Hill told 60 Minutes on Sunday.

“My dad was not a violent person in any way. He wouldn’t have provoked anything.”

Ms Hill went on to say that she thinks about what happened to her father every day.

“I’m just really angry that he went camping that day, that time, that he is the person he is and he happened to be right there with my dad and Carol, and this is what happened,” she said.

“I think it was just really bad luck for Dad and Carol that they were there at the time, but it wouldn’t have happened if he [Lynn] wasn’t such an awful person.”

After the trial concluded, more information has come to light about Lynn's past after non-publication orders were lifted.

His first wife Lisa Lynn, 34, was found dead in the front yard of her home in 1999, with a coroner’s report indicating a blood-alcohol level of 0.21 and high levels of anti-depression medication present in her system at the time of her death.

No suicide note was ever found and Lynn was never charged over her death, however detectives are now looking to have the Victorian coroner conduct a full inquest into the 1999 death.

Ms Hill said it was quite concerning to learn about Lynn’s history, saying, “I hope he doesn’t get away with this, but I’ve lost a bit of faith in the whole system.”

“I’m not trusting of it now. We’ll have to wait and see. He’s just such a terrible person.”

Image credits: Facebook / Victoria Police

Titanic star dies suddenly at 79

British actor Bernard Hill has died suddenly at the age of 79 just days before a scheduled appearance at a fan convention.

His agent announced his death in the early hours of Sunday morning, although no cause of death has been shared.

Hill was most known for his role of Captain Edward Smith in the Oscar-winning 1997 film Titanic opposite Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, and earned global recognition playing Theoden, King of Rohan, in two of the three The Lord Of The Rings films.

The actor was scheduled to appear at Liverpool’s Comic-Con over the weekend but cancelled at the last minute, as the convention shared on X.

When news broke of the actor's passing the organisers of the event took to social media to lead the tributes.

“We’re heartbroken to hear the news of Bernard Hill’s passing,” they wrote on X.

“A great loss. Thinking of his family at this very sad time, and wishing them a lot of strength.”

Hill's Lord of the Rings co-star Elijah Wood shared his condolences, adding a moving quote from the film they starred in together.

"So long to our friend, our king, Bernard Hill. We will never forget you," he wrote. “For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.”

In the hours after his death, four Lord of the Rings actors who play the iconic hobbits took to the stage of Liverpool Comic Con to pay their respects to Bernard.

Sean Astin, known for his role in the trilogy of Samwise Gamgee, said on stage, "He was intrepid, he gruff, he was irascible."

Echoing Sean's words, Billy Boyd who played Pippin in the films, said, “We were watching the movies and I said to Dom, I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did.”

"Offer is on the table": New James Bond actor revealed

In a world where the only constant is change, one thing remains certain: James Bond will always be suave, sophisticated, and British.

The search for the next 007 has been a rollercoaster of speculation, rumours and hopes dashed faster than a villain's escape plan. But now the wait appears to be over. The man most likely in line to be the next James Bond has been revealed, and his name is Taylor-Johnson ... Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

According to a report from The Sun on Tuesday, Eon Productions, the brilliant minds behind the iconic spy franchise, appear to have finally settled on their man. According to sources as reliable as Bond's impeccable taste in martinis, Taylor-Johnson is set to don the tuxedo and wield the Walther PPK in the next instalment of the series. Well, at least if he accepts the offer.

“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it," The Sun reported. "The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.

“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

Now, some of you might be scratching your heads, wondering, "Aaron who?"

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is an English actor, which automatically makes him qualified for the role. Plus, he's been in action films like Tenet, Bullet Train and Avengers: Age of Ultron. So, he's no stranger to high-stakes thrills and spills. Also, did we mention he's British? Because that's kind of a prerequisite.

At 33 years of age, Taylor-Johnson would be the youngest actor to step into Bond's impeccably polished shoes since George Lazenby back in 1969. Talk about big shoes to fill. But if anyone can handle the pressure, it's our man Aaron.

Now, some purists might be clutching their martini glasses in horror, lamenting the departure of Daniel Craig, who graced our screens for five thrilling films. But fear not, for change is the spice of life, and if there's one thing Bond knows how to handle, it's change. Besides, who wouldn't want to see what Taylor-Johnson brings to the table? Maybe he'll introduce a new signature drink or a quirky catchphrase. The possibilities are as endless as Bond's list of conquests.

The response to The Sun's announcement has caused a few reactions across the globe, with 9News reporting that "A source with knowledge of the situation tells CNN that Johnson has not been cast as Bond. And, BBC News reports that a 'production insider' said there is no truth to the rumours about Taylor-Johnson's casting."

So, as we eagerly await the official announcement from Eon Productions, let us raise our glasses to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the next suave superspy set to save the world, one shaken, not stirred, adventure at a time.

Images: Getty / Twitter (X)

"It was a loud wake-up call": Aaron Sorkin's serious health scare

Award-winning screenwriter and director Aaron Sorkin has revealed he suffered a stroke last November.

In an interview with The New York Times, the 61-year-old, who holds three Golden Globes and five Emmys, said the experience was so intense it made him think he might never work again.

"There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again," Sorkin said.

Sorkin revealed that the stroke occurred two months before rehearsals for his upcoming musical – a re-written version of Camelot.

The West Wing creator said that the symptoms showed up in the middle of the night when he realised that he kept crashing into walls on his way to the kitchen.

The symptoms carried on the next day, when he found himself continually spilling a glass of orange juice in his home office.

When he went to the doctors they said his blood pressure was so high, he was "supposed to be dead".

Sorkin also shared that he’s still suffering from the side effects as he hasn’t been able to taste food properly since the stroke.

A month after the stroke, Sorkin struggled to type and was slurring his words, it’s only recently that he finally built up the coordination to be able to sign his name again.

The director shared that the stroke has led him to make some major lifestyle changes.

"Mostly it was a loud wake-up call," he said. "I thought I was one of those people who could eat whatever he wanted, smoke as much as he wanted, and it's not going to affect me. Boy, was I wrong," he said.

Sorkin has since given up smoking, works out twice a day and has incorporated a healthier diet. "I take a lot of medicine. You can hear the pills rattling around in me," he added.

The screenwriter is currently preparing for the opening of his new musical, Camelot, which is his fourth Broadway production.

Image: Getty Images

Brad Pitt has a list of actors he’ll never work with again

The people you work with have the power to make going to work heavenly or hellish, so it should come as no surprise that Brad Pitt - whose career in acting and producing spans 35 years - would be selective about who he works with.

In fact, Bullet Train co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has revealed that Pitt has a “long” list of actors he never wants to work with again.

Taylor-Johnson told Variety that Pitt keeps notes on who he likes and dislikes when he’s making films.

“He just wants to bring light and joy into the world and be around people who are there to have a good time,” the 32-year-old explained.

“You work with many actors and after a while you start making notes - ‘I am definitely not working with this person ever again’.

“Brad has this list too: the ‘good’ list and the ‘s**t’ list.”

But, Taylor-Johnson was tight-lipped as to who was on Pitt’s “s**t list”.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Children and teachers potentially exposed to asbestos for years

Parents have been left fuming after finding out their children and teachers were exposed to the lethal material asbestos.

Asbestos was detected in several classrooms at Castle Hill High School back in 2016 but the NSW Department of Education said the report came back negative.

Students and teachers had already complained about weird dust particles falling from the roof to the point where they collected samples to get them tested.

ClearSafe Environmental Solutions, an independent testing facility, tested the particle and found the dust contained chrysotile asbestos and amosite asbestos.

Then in 2020, the school was shut down from May 16 to June 15 where remediation work was carried out.

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson confirmed asbestos is no longer a threat to the school following the remediation.

“All air monitoring undertaken at the time returned results below or equal to the minimum detection limit,” they said.

“Testing was completed to ensure the areas were fully remediated and clearance certificates issued before the area was open to students and staff, in strict accordance with SafeWork NSW protocols.”

Despite this, NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell confirmed that an investigation will look into the Department of Education's Professional and Ethical Standards unit and SafeWork NSW.

Image: Facebook

Search for missing campers unearths tragic allegations

New evidence suggests that the bodies believed to be that of missing campers Carol Clay and Russell Hill may have allegedly been burned before they were buried.

According to reports from the Herald Sun, the pair of bodies allegedly may have been set on fire within metres of where the remains were found in dense bushland in the remote area of East Gippsland in Victoria.

On November 30th, human remains were uncovered in the Grants Historical Area near the remote town of Dargo, 320km northeast of Melbourne.

The discovery was made almost two years after Carol and Russell went missing.

The remains have yet to be formally identified, with DNA testing results expected to take some time.

Detectives from the missing persons squad combed through the scene meticulously last week, using the same methods and relying on the same arson chemist who originally examined Mr Hill and Ms Clay’s campsite when they disappeared in 2020.

Police are currently waiting for the forensic testing results of a Nissan Patrol vehicle that was recently seized during the investigation.

Victoria Police are also searching for a trailer that was resold on Gumtree, which may assist the investigation.

Russell Hill and Carol Clay were last heard from on March 20th 2020 when they embarked on their camping trip.

Days later, campers found Russell's car that had been destroyed by fire near the campsite.

A 55-year-old Caroline Springs man, Greg Lynn, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Mr Lynn remains in police custody and is expected to face court on May 31th next year.

BREAKING: Bodies found in search for missing Vic campers

Police searching for the remains of missing Victorian campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay have found human remains in bushland near Dargo, in Victoria’s High Country.

They are yet to be formally identified.

Last week, police had arrested a 55-year-old Caroline Springs man and were interviewing him in relation to the pair’s disappearance, although no formal charges had been laid. The man, revealed to be Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn, was stood down following his arrest.

The pair, who it has been revealed were having an affair, were last seen at a remote Wonnangatta campsite on March 20 last year. Their campsite at Dry River Creek Track was discovered burnt out, and Hill’s abandoned Toyota Landcruiser was located nearby.
Ms Clay’s sister Jill revealed the relationship to 60 Minutes, saying, “They had to keep it secret, and in some ways, I feel that that’s why they went to such a remote place.” Neither Mr Hill’s wife nor his daughters were aware of the relationship between him and Ms Clay, with his daughters telling the program, “It was a shock when the police mentioned something about, do we know a Carol? But that was the first we knew about it.

“We didn’t know anything about him and Carol being together.”

Authorities revealed that charred camping chairs, a burnt-out battery, and a bucket used for Hill’s gas canister were located inside the pair’s tent, which had also been burnt. They believe it’s unlikely that these items would have been put there by the missing pair. “It certainly builds that picture for us that potentially someone was trying to cover their tracks,” Victoria Police Detective Inspector Andrew Stampers told 60 Minutes.

Image: Victoria Police
