Beloved Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte has died suddenly at the age of just 34, leaving fans devastated and his fiancée facing an unimaginable loss, just days after celebrating her birthday.
The American actor, best known for playing Walter White Jr in the acclaimed television drama, died on Monday, October 12, at his home in Brownsville, Texas.
His death came just two days after the 31st birthday of his fiancée, Kennedy Suarez, and almost exactly one year after the couple celebrated their engagement.
Mitte’s representatives confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, remembering him not only for his acting achievements but also for his tireless work supporting people with disabilities.
“It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the statement read.
TMZ has reported that Mitte died by suicide, citing a county official. However, police have said their investigation is ongoing, and an official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
The tragedy is particularly heartbreaking given the future Mitte and Suarez had been looking forward to together.
The couple had been friends for more than a decade before their relationship blossomed into romance. After five years together, Mitte proposed on October 10, 2025, during a charity event in California, choosing Suarez’s 30th birthday to ask her to marry him.
At the time, the actor could barely contain his excitement about their future.
“I’m thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we’re doing,” he told People magazine.
“Kennedy is my everything and I can’t wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next.”
In February this year, Mitte shared a touching Valentine’s Day video montage celebrating their relationship, filled with happy memories of their time together.
“Happy Valentine’s Day. Looking back at these moments with you reminds me how grateful I am for the love and kindness we share,” he wrote.
“Love transcends all. Go out and share yours.”
Those words have taken on a particularly poignant meaning following his sudden passing.
Mitte became a familiar face to millions of television viewers when he was cast as Walter White Jr, also known as Flynn, in Breaking Bad.
Appearing alongside Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn, he portrayed the teenage son of a chemistry teacher whose descent into the criminal underworld slowly tears his family apart.
Mitte appeared in 56 episodes between 2008 and 2013, earning widespread recognition for a performance that brought both warmth and emotional depth to the award-winning series.
Like his character, Mitte lived with cerebral palsy, having been diagnosed with the condition at the age of three.
Rather than allowing his disability to define his career, he used his growing fame to challenge stereotypes and campaign for greater opportunities for performers with disabilities.
He became an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, while also supporting charitable initiatives through the Mitte Foundation.
His representatives said the actor had used his personal experiences to bring authenticity to his most famous role, while building a lasting platform for disability awareness and inclusion.
Following Breaking Bad, Mitte continued acting in film and television, appearing in productions including Switched at Birth, The Recall, The Oak Room and The Guardians of Justice.
He remained professionally active until shortly before his death, promoting new projects and discussing his ambitions in interviews.
Just days earlier, he had spoken enthusiastically about the possibility of revisiting the world of Breaking Bad, suggesting there were still stories worth telling about the White family.
His former co-stars have also begun paying tribute, with Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader in the series, expressing his disbelief and sorrow.
“Oh my God! Was working (and) just found out about RJ. I am heartbroken,” Norris wrote.
“Though RJ didn’t play my TV son, I always looked out for him as a young kid on set. He was a sweetheart of a young man and will be greatly missed.”
For fans, Mitte will be remembered as a talented young actor who helped bring one of television’s most memorable families to life.
For the disability community, his legacy extends far beyond the screen, through the barriers he challenged and the opportunities he fought to create.
And for those closest to him, particularly the woman he had so joyfully described as his everything, his passing represents the heartbreaking loss of a future they had only just begun planning together.
Mitte’s family has requested privacy as they mourn his death.
