Kyle Sandilands has shared new details about his upcoming independent breakfast program, Kyle Sandilands Live, including who will join him on air and how the new platform will work.
According to news.com.au, journalist Mary Madigan will join the program as its newsreader and on-air contributor when the show launches on August 10.
The show will stream live via a dedicated app from 6am to 10am, Monday to Friday, on a subscription model costing $99 a year.
Sandilands said the new format would feature several regular contributors rather than a traditional hosting duo.
“Mary will present the news and any gossip news and also be a total voice with the rest of us,” he said.
“So I will present the show and Mary will be like the second tier and then there’s also the other ensemble cast as well.
“So there’ll be a lot of different voices which is what we want to do for this program.”
Sandilands said he first noticed Madigan through her street interview series before later inviting her to appear on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“She was great on the air. It was just a nice electric, high energy feel and she was funny.
I thought, ‘Well, that’s it.” Tick, tick, tick. I’ll take that one’,” he said.
Madigan told news.com.au she was looking forward to joining the new venture.
“I’m really excited to join the show. I’m excited and a little bit nervous, and I think I’m going to learn a lot from Kyle and maybe he’ll even learn the odd thing from me too,” she said.
The program will also be executive produced by Jaimee Blazquez, who previously worked on The Kyle and Jackie O Show for more than nine years.
Blazquez announced the role on social media.
“Excited to share that I have stepped into the role of executive producer for @kylesandilandslive,” she captioned a photo of herself and Sandilands.
Unlike traditional commercial radio, the new program will not include advertising breaks. Subscribers will be able to watch or listen live, rewind the show, use video calling to interact with the hosts and continue listening while using other apps through background audio and picture-in-picture viewing.
Sandilands said he wanted to keep the parts of his previous show listeners enjoyed while removing the restrictions of commercial broadcasting.
“The things that you hated, the commercial breaks and the constant beeping that was like you were listening to Morse code, that’ll all be gone,” he said.
“So someone will pay $2 a week to never hear an ad again and to never hear a censorship again.”
The new show follows Sandilands’ departure from ARN earlier this year after his long-running partnership with Jackie “O” Henderson came to an end.
