Charles Spencer has married for a fourth time, tying the knot with archaeologist and academic Cat Jarman in a private ceremony in the United States.
The 61-year-old Earl Spencer and Jarman, 43, tied the knot on May 15 in Arizona, with the ceremony held at Sedona’s Cathedral Rock.
The couple released a joint statement confirming the news.
“We both feel so incredibly lucky to have progressed from being colleagues, to friendship, to deep love and connection. Each stage of our relationship has been underpinned by laughter and we share a passion for life,” the statement read.
Spencer later shared images from the wedding on Instagram, describing the day as “the happiest day ever”.
“A very close friend said to me, months ago: ‘The thing about Cat is, she’d want to be with you if you lived in a hut’. Little did I know she’d also be happy to marry me in a desert,” he wrote in the caption.
The pair first met in 2021 when Spencer reviewed Jarman’s book River Kings, before she later visited his family estate, Althorp in Northamptonshire, to work on archaeological digs at the site.
Jarman later joined Spencer and Reverend Richard Coles as co-host of the podcast Rabbit Hole Detectives, where they explored unusual historical stories and objects.
Their relationship became public after Spencer announced in mid-2024 that he and his third wife, Karen Spencer, had separated after 13 years of marriage.
The divorce was finalised in late 2025, allowing Spencer and Jarman to marry this year. She now becomes Countess Spencer.
Spencer was previously married to Victoria Lockwood, with whom he has four children, and later to Caroline Freud, with whom he has two children, before his marriage to Karen Spencer, with whom he shares one child.
