Jess Rowe and Peter Overton have proven some love stories only get sweeter with time, taking their family back to the island paradise where it all began.
To mark their wedding anniversary, the beloved media couple returned to the Maldives – the very spot they honeymooned 22 years ago – this time with their daughters, Allegra and Giselle, in tow. The sun-soaked escape was a celebration not just of marriage, but of family, memory and the joy of coming full circle.
Rowe shared the special trip with fans on Instagram, posting a heartfelt caption that captured the moment perfectly.
“Full circle… Petee & I got married 22 years ago & had our honeymoon in the Maldives,” she wrote. “How lucky we are to return all these years later with our precious girls. Happy anniversary, my darling Petee.”
The post struck a chord with followers, many of whom have watched the couple’s relationship unfold over the years. Rowe and Overton are refreshingly open about their family life, with Rowe often sharing glimpses of their Sydney home – and her trademark warmth – on social media.
Their love story began in the early 2000s, after Overton’s first marriage ended. At the time, the veteran Nine newsreader admits he was hesitant to open his heart again.
In a 2024 interview with 9Honey, Overton revealed he needed a gentle push from a friend to take a chance on romance.
“Then we met at the Logies in 2001, but I was zero interested in any relationship with anybody,” he said. “A mutual friend then rang me and said, ‘Mate, just ask Jessica out’.”
Overton jokingly set a condition that would change his life. “I said, ‘If she rings me in the next 10 minutes, I’ll take her out on a date,’ so we went out and we’ve been together ever since.”
While the pair often describe themselves as “opposites”, they say that difference is their strength.
“I lighten Petey, and you ground me when I need to be grounded,” Rowe has said. “We have the same moral compass, that’s why it works.”
Both have enjoyed long, successful careers in Australian television. Overton has spent more than three decades at Nine, while Rowe’s journey has taken her across multiple networks and cities, from her early days at Nine to roles at Prime, Seven and Ten, including five years co-hosting Studio 10.
Despite busy schedules and the inevitable challenges of life, their bond has endured. “Of course, there are tough times, there are always tough times,” Overton has said. But as their Maldivian reunion shows, love, laughter and a shared history – now enriched by their daughters – continue to anchor Jess Rowe and Peter Overton’s enduring partnership.
