When I started Big Stories Little Films, my goal was simple: to help families preserve the stories of their loved ones in a way that felt alive, personal and lasting. Our legacy films grew out of that vision – documentary-style films that capture a person’s life story and wisdom for generations to come.

But recently, I found myself asking another question: what about the stories unfolding right now?

As a mum myself, I know how fleeting certain seasons of life feel – your children at a particular age, the magic (and madness) of mid-life, or the energy of a growing family. That’s why I created our new Time Capsule Films. These are short, documentary-style films designed to “press pause” on today and preserve it for tomorrow. They combine interviews, family footage and photographs into a cinematic keepsake you can hold onto forever.

One of the first families to experience this was Sarah Kelly’s family in Melbourne. Earlier this year, Sarah won our national giveaway for a free film. She’s just 40 years old and living with brain cancer, and she wanted her five-year-old daughter, Esther, to have a record of her story – her voice, her love, her advice.

We filmed Sarah, her husband and Esther at home, gathering her reflections on life, her faith, her lessons, and her joy. The finished Time Capsule film is dedicated to Esther, a future gift from her mum that she’ll be able to revisit as she grows.

Sarah’s story reminded me why these films matter so much. They’re not about only waiting until our later years to look back – they’re about recognising the beauty and significance of the present.

A Time Capsule film is for anyone of any age who wants to stop time for a moment, to capture love, laughter and wisdom as they are today, and to gift those memories forward.

Big Stories Little Films record nationwide across Australia, with an award-winning team of filmmakers and they would love to offer you a free film planning session for any moment in time you want to ‘press pause’ on. Find out more at www.bigstorieslittlefilms.com.au
