Cruz Hewitt has continued his impressive Wimbledon junior campaign, with the teenager reaching the semifinals.
The 17-year-old stormed through his quarterfinal match against ninth seed Dimitar Kisimov, winning 6-1 6-2 in just 53 minutes.
Hewitt dominated the match with 10 aces to Kisimov’s one and hit 22 winners compared with his opponent’s seven, securing the biggest result of his junior career so far.
With parents Lleyton and Bec Hewitt watching from the stands, the young Australian won the first five games of the match.
The result follows another strong performance earlier in the tournament, where Hewitt defeated second seed Jamie Mackenzie in straight sets.
Hewitt had not competed in a junior tournament since last year’s US Open, but has returned in impressive form at the All England Club, reaching the final four without dropping a set.
He is the first Australian to reach the boys’ singles semifinals at Wimbledon since Alex de Minaur did so a decade ago.
The teenager will now face Dutch player Thijs Boogaard, who is regarded as one of the sport’s emerging young talents.
Hewitt said he was focused on taking the tournament one match at a time.
“Every tournament, you come in and you hope to win it, but I’m just here taking it one match at a time,” Hewitt said.
“So far, three matches and I’ve enjoyed playing every one.
“So next match, I’ll try and do the same and then we’ll see how it goes.”
The young Australian has also become a crowd favourite at Wimbledon, with large groups of fans turning out to watch his matches.
At his last 16 match, the twin daughters of tennis legend Roger Federer, Myla and Charlene, were among those watching from courtside.
Currently ranked 606th in the senior ATP rankings, Hewitt is aiming to secure his first junior major title at Wimbledon.
