Just weeks after revealing he had been treated for prostate cancer, Jeremy Clarkson brightened the day of two football fans by giving away his tickets to England’s World Cup match against Ghana in Boston.
The 66-year-old Clarkson’s Farm star took to social media platform X hours before kick-off to offer the tickets to supporters, posting: “Anyone want them?”
The message quickly attracted almost 1000 comments, prompting Clarkson to clarify that he was already in Boston and that anyone hoping to claim the tickets would also need to be there.
The tickets were eventually snapped up by two England fans, who later thanked Clarkson online and shared photos from the match, along with a picture of themselves posing with the TV presenter.
Clarkson later explained that he had simply decided against attending the game because of the weather.
“I didn’t fancy getting soaked at my first England World Cup game, so I decided to treat someone without tickets,” he told The Sun.
“I offered them first-come, first-served to any England fans in Boston, and they went almost immediately to two lads who couldn’t believe their luck.
“It was great to treat them and I hope they’re enjoying Boston as much as I am. The atmosphere has been terrific.”
Clarkson said offering the tickets through X “worked a treat”, adding that they were claimed almost immediately.
The gesture came just a week after Clarkson opened up about his prostate cancer diagnosis. He has since revealed he is in remission, with recent tests showing no sign of cancer.
Despite the positive result, Clarkson has said he will continue to undergo regular blood tests as a precaution, noting that about 40 per cent of people who have had prostate cancer experience a recurrence.
