"Tears started rolling": First glimpse of Molly the magpie shared by carers

The first photo of Molly the magpie has been released by his carers, 43 days after he was removed from his adoptive family's home. In March, Molly's adoptive family from Queensland were forced to surrender the bird after complaints that his owners don't hold a wildlife permit. Molly the magpie has lived with Juliette Wells and Reece Mortensen and their two dogs Peggy and Ruby since 2020, when he - originally thought to be a she - fell out a nest in their backyard. Ever since the family were forced to hand over the magpie, Premier Steven Miles said the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation was working to help them secure the permits needed to bring Molly back home. While the permit application is in the works, the carers at the facility where Molly is currently being held have released a photo of the bird to ease the minds of his adoptive family. "Reduced me to tears": King Charles' candid admission

King Charles has made a candid admission as he returned to his public engagement in over two months as he faces ongoing treatment. The royal joined a meeting of the Privy Council at Buckingham Palace followed by an audience with the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. Reduced me to tears most of the time,” Charles told him. “I can imagine, as I said, everyone is behind you, and it’s been nice to see the spotlight that it’s shone on the work the charities do in this area,” Sunak responded. “I hear there been a lot more interest on those main wonderful cancer charities many of which I’ve been patron for years," Charles added. “They’ve done incredible work up and down the country, nice to be recognised," Sunak replied. The King's last public engagement was a trip to the Royal Courts of Justice on December 14th. His last in-person engagement was an investiture at Windsor Castle on December 19. On Wednesday he held a Privy Council meeting and swore in new member Michael Tomlinson, Minister of State for Illegal Migration. Christina Applegate has moved audiences to tears after making a courageous appearance at the Emmy Awards. Elderly woman reduced to tears by irate postie

Australia Post is investigating an incident of extreme road rage, after a postie reduced an elderly woman to tears. The postman was driving a three-wheeled electric delivery vehicle on the Gold Coast on Monday morning, when an elderly woman almost struck him on a roundabout. The mailman then instructed the woman to pull over, and began berating her until she burst into tears. "32 years of safe landings": Pilot's surprise speech reduces passengers to tears

A pilot has brought his passengers to tears with an emotional speech on his final flight after 32 years in the skies. Jeff Fell, an American Airlines pilot, took off from Chicago on his retirement flight as he stood in front of his passengers and delivered a heartfelt message. At first, his message seemed routine, informing travellers of the weather and and flight time, before acknowledging it was strange for him to deliver the address from outside the cockpit. “I normally don’t stand up in front of everybody like this, I usually just stay in the cockpit and talk on the PA. If I get a little emotional please forgive me for that,” he said in the speech, which was captured on video by a passenger. With passengers still unaware of what was to come, he pointed out a group of “very important people” to him sitting at the back of the plane. “They’re the majority of my family who have come along with me on my retirement flight,” Mr Fell said. The plane was filled with applause as the pilot's voice wavered with emotion. “They’re on-board with me on my retirement flight after 32 years with American,” he said. He continued, fighting back tears, “Thank you all for coming along with me tonight and celebrating this very memorable time in my life. I love all of you." With another round of applause from his passengers, Mr Fell added:, “I didn’t want to get emotional but goodness gracious.” “Finally, for my wonderful wife Julie who has been at my side for the majority of my 32 years at American. The Remembrance Day moment that brought King Charles to tears

King Charles was holding back tears as he unveiled the statues in honour of his late parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The monarch and his wife, Camilla, unveiled the statues on Friday, during the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall. The statue unveiling was part of a greater ceremony for Remembrance Day, which honours those who have sacrificed their lives to serve and protect the Commonwealth. King Charles was tasked with unveiling the statue of his mother, while Camila pulled the curtain away from Philip's statue. Photos taken of the royal during the event showed what appeared to be tears welling up in his eyes as he looked on proudly, likely reminiscing about the memories he shared with his parents. According to the Times, the artworks were commissioned in 2021 as part of the Hall’s 150th anniversary, and the statues were designed by Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust scholar, Poppy Field. Emotional interview leaves Ally Langdon in tears

A Current Affair host Ally Langdon was left in tears following an interview with renowned melanoma expert Dr Richard Scolyer. The cancer expert revealed that he has decided to undergo a bold new therapy following his own incurable brain cancer diagnosis. Dr Scolyer decided that instead of undergoing chemotherapy where he had "six to nine months to live at best", he chose to help progress research and treatment. Current treatment options for the life-threatening disease are limited to surgery, and after conducting research, Dr Scoyler alongside close friend and scientific colleague Professor Georgina Long, concluded that immunotherapy was the only alternative option. "It was a bleak outlook - standard treatment has remained unchanged for nearly two decades, and for my cancer, survival rates are zero," Dr Scoyler told the National Press Club on Wednesday. "There were no clinical trials that I was eligible for. Accepting that status quo was never going to be an option" Following his own diagnosis four months ago, the doctor decided to take part in an experimental treatment following a surgery, which involves a combination of immunotherapy and a vaccine designed to boost immune reaction against cancer cells. This is all part of a clinical trial to test out the effectiveness of the vaccine, with the doctor sharing that he had "absolutely" no regrets in starting the experimental treatment. "Faced with certain death, there was no other decision to make. I have spent my life diagnosing and researching cancer, so why would I stop now," he said. "We've transformed melanoma, I want to give it a crack and see if we can make a different in brain cancer," he added. Langdon teared up as the doctor shared his experience. "I know we have to tread cautiously, it's very early stages, but it just makes me want to cry," the TV host said. "It's so inspiring because you set out to blow up everything we know about treating brain cancer and you are doing it." Langdon's voice broke as she praised the doctor, saying that he had "changed the world" even if his treatment was not successful. She was also visibly teary-eyed in the outro of the segment as she described the doctor as "someone special." Dr Scolyer's vaccine was developed using analysis of his specific tumour's genome, which allowed scientists to identify what treatment would be most effective for him. "Tears in my eyes": King's Guard breaks protocol for photo with young royal fan

A member of the King's Guard has been prised online for going out of his way to take a photo with a young man with Down's syndrome, breaking strict protocol. A video of the touching moment, shared by Mike the young man's carer on YouTube, caused a stir thanks to the respectful way the guard acted. Known worldwide for being silent and still even when trying to be distracted by tourists, it is the job of the King's Guard to stand statuesque on duty outside office royal residences. However, footage shows how a kind-hearted member of the Guard moved closer to Mike and the boy who were trying to get a photo to remember their trip to Horse Guards Parade by. Taking to Twitter to post about their day out, Mike who is a professional carer for the youngster, explained, "I've worked for his family and him for a decade now. “My fear is obvious”: Shannen Doherty’s tearful health update

Actress Shannen Doherty, best known for her roles in the hit TV series Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210, has shared an update on her cancer battle with her concerned followers. The star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and has been open about her ongoing fight, from her 2017 remission to her 2020 stage 4 diagnosis, and has now made the heartbreaking announcement that the cancer has spread to her brain. In two videos posted to her social media account, Shannen has detailed this latest chapter in her journey, and confessed the fear that comes along with the whole ordeal. In the first post, Shannen detailed the experience of having her radiation mask fitted, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CtHpmIdpNRg/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">after CT scans revealed mets on her brain on January 5</a>. Her followers wasted no time in offering their support, with many revealing their own - or their loved ones’ - experiences fighting cancer, and wishing her all of the positive thoughts they had to offer. “I just had my bilateral mastectomy on May 31st along with a lymph node dissection,” one wrote, “and I just want to let you know that you are my hero right now and I am totally here for you as well”. “My brother was given 6-8 months in ‘94 - he went through radiotherapy, chemo, and is still with us today,” another shared. “The power of positive thinking, of ‘I CAN beat this’, was his mantra. He is living proof it can be beaten!!! Thinking of you and sending strength”. Billy Joel in tears over career announcement

American singer and ‘Piano Man’ Billy Joel is set to conclude his “extraordinary” Madison Square Garden residency with his 150th lifetime show. Joel, MSG CEO James Dolan, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams were at a press conference at the venue when the announcement was made, with Dolan taking to the stage to share that the first of the star’s final ten concert will take place in October 2023, with the final one scheduled for July 2024. "What Billy Joel has accomplished is extraordinary," Dolan said. "Although the residency is coming to an end, we look forward to an exciting closing run to celebrate all that you have accomplished and forever welcoming you back home to the garden anytime, anytime you like." An MSG Entertainment representative went on to discuss Joel’s time at the venue - with the singer having headlined over 60 times more than any other artist, and having sold more than 1.6 million tickets - before a video tribute was played in his honour, prompting another round of tears from him. In the wake of the announcement, Joel went on to offer his own words, telling the crowd, “Madison Square Garden is more than just our office, it's our home. "I'm kinda flabbergasted it lasted as long as it did. Ally Langdon breaks down in tears over 13-year-old life support patient

Ally Langdon has broken down in tears while hearing the heart-breaking story of 13-year-old Esra Haynes. The A Current Affair host was joined by Esra’s parents, who shared that their daughter had fallen victim to the dangerous practice of “chroming”. Chroming is when a person inhales solvents or other household chemicals, or aerosol deodorant in Esra’s case, to get high. Esra’s parents, Paul and Andrea, recalled receiving a phone call while their daughter was at a sleepover that changed their lives forever. Over the Easter long weekend, the teenager had gone into cardiac arrest as a call was made to the parents to “Come and get your daughter”. When Andrea arrived at the home, police and paramedics were trying to resuscitate the teen before she was taken to hospital and placed on life support. Just eight days later, Esra passed away. “We thought we would bring her home,” Andrea <a href="https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/esra-haynes-melbourne-family-open-up-to-ally-langdon-about-tragic-chroming-trend-that-killed-daughter/7b4fcf4e-662b-4a91-8875-76fa4024a31a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told </a>Langdon. “We still had hope, we did not think the worst,” Paul said. Although her parents were optimistic their little girl would recover, a scan revealed Esra had sustained irreparable brain damage from the dangerous chemicals. The couple were forced to make the painful decision to turn off Esra's life support, and were told to bring in friends and family to say their final goodbyes to the teenager on her deathbed. “She was put onto a bed so we could lay with her,” a heartbroken Paul said. “We cuddled her until the end.” Langdon was visibly overwhelmed by the parents' memories of their final day with their daughter, and teared up alongside them. "So painful": Gordon Ramsay overwhelmed by MasterChef tribute

The late Jock Zonfrillo has been remembered in a heartfelt tribute from friends, fellow chefs, and TV personalities on a special episode of The Sunday Project. The likes of Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White represented the culinary world as they honoured their late friend, with the former moved to tears while opening up about the “good times” they’d shared together - both on and off the Masterchef Australia set. “Spending time on the floor with Jock in MasterChef was electrifying,” he shared, “but it was always something quite encouraging about the s**t we’d gone through to get to where we’d been. “Plus it was an incredible stage that you’re on with MasterChef Australia. It’s the most-watched MasterChef anywhere on the planet, so it’s a privilege. “And being present in that room, welcoming Jock to the platform, was just one of those experiences I’ll never forget.” “Being in the [Masterchef] environment sort of took us back 20 years,” he added, “there’s something quite amazing about two Scotts coming together in Australia, it makes you happy, at the end of the day you feel good.” “The ripples have been devastating,” Ramsay revealed. “No-one’s gonna get over this quickly. “If there’s one thing that we’ve done as chefs, we’ve united. "That one really hurt": Grant Denyer on career axing that brought him to tears

Grant Denyer has opened up about the two most brutal axings of his career: one a breakfast radio show that left him in tears, and the other, his dream TV show that never aired. Speaking to news.com.au’s podcast, I’ve Got News For You, Denyer revealed that one of the most brutal moments of his career was when he was axed from the 2Day FM breakfast show. In 2018 Denyer was a co-host of the show in Sydney alongside Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee. Rusciano left the show late 2018 and was replaced by Ash London- but the program failed to get good ratings so the trio were axed in August 2019. “That one really hurt,” Denyer said. “Because I’d had lunch with a head executive a week earlier who promised me that they were going to sign me for another five years, and then a week later I finish a show and then at 9.05am I walk into a meeting and they say, ‘well, that was your last show.’ “I burst into tears,” he added. “I was a blubbering mess. I cried in the corner for quite a while. “That one hurt because you give so much of yourself in breakfast radio … and you share a lot of deep, personal stories, some that are humiliating and embarrassing … because there’s such a need to deliver content every day to connect with an audience,” he said. The Gold Logie winner added that because he had shared so much of his life on the radio show, and it still wasn’t enough, the impact “shocked and rocked” him for a couple of years. “I took a lot of getting over that. “In fact, I went from having probably the most confidence I’d ever had in my entire career to having the least amount of confidence that I’ve ever had, and it’s taken a bit of a steady road to come back,” he added. The other most brutal moment in his TV career was when a new version of Hey Hey It’s Saturday called Saturday Night’s Alright was cancelled before it even aired. The show was intended for Channel 7 and they had apparently spent a million producing the pilot. “We’d spent a million bucks on a pilot, it was incredible, it was a game changer, it was going to blow everyone’s mind”, Denyer said. Unfortunately, the show was axed when they heard that Channel 9 was going to bring back Hey Hey. “They (Channel 7) were like, ‘let’s let Channel 9 and Daryl (Somers) go first and then if it works, we’ll run ours,’” Denyer said. “After two or three episodes, unfortunately Daryl’s show started to fizzle and then that killed our big, giant variety show, which is the show I’ve always wanted since I was a kid. “It was axed before it even went to air!” he revealed. Johnny Ruffo has shared his words of wisdom on living life to the fullest as he continues his brave fight against a terminal brain cancer diagnosis. The singer and former actor, best known for his time on The X Factor and Home and Away, was chatting to the hosts of the Kicpod podcast when he divulged his life philosophies. Johnny’s top tip? “Don’t sweat the small things”. “Cherish life,” he told fitness influencers Steph Claire Smith and Lauren Henshaw. “Don’t sweat the small things and make sure the last conversation you have with people that you love is a good one.” Expanding on that, Johnny explained that he never leaves a conversation with his partner, Tahnee Sims, on a negative note. “You know, I may have a seizure, or something might happen,” he said. “And I just want her to know that the last thing she spoke to me about was that I loved her. “Every time Tahnee and I leave one another... I always tell her I love her.” Johnny was first diagnosed in 2017, and revealed in 2022 that the cancer was terminal. The couple have been together since 2015, and Tahnee has been at his side throughout his ongoing treatment. Johnny has been no stranger to praise for his partner, and her continued devotion and bravery in the face of the fight against cancer. . Last year, Johnny spoke to Now to Love, where he declared that Tahnee was his “everything”. Throughout the interview, he stressed that they were a team in life and all that comes with it. "I'd be lost without her," he said. "She's just everything. "She comes home from work and she's probably so tired and just wants to have a break, and then she has me. She wants to try and make me smile. "I don't know how she does it. I really don't.” Kicpod Lauren was brought to tears by Johnny’s tribute, and both agreed that he has a “beautiful outlook on life”. Johnny, who by all accounts lives by his own heartfelt advice, has spent the past few months with friends and loved ones, enjoying some of Australia’s stunning scenery. Robert Irwin has been left in tears after he received a birthday video message from his late father, Steve Irwin. He was just two years old when his father passed away after he was stung by a stingray in 2006 at the age of just 44. Robert recently celebrated his 19th birthday but now a video has resurfaced of the Crocodile Hunter discussing Robert's birth and his hopes that Robert would follow in his footsteps. AGT judges moved to tears after "brave" act

An emotionally charged backstory to a card trick has left the judges of Australia's Got Talent in tears. On Monday night's episode of the variety talent show, contestant Michael Webb shared a story about a man named Jack who decided to seek help for his mental health issues. However, the story of “Jack” was Michael’s own story, and it moved the judges immensely. While the story alone brought tears to the eyes, it was the “perfect” card trick supporting the story that stunned the audience and judges. “I have a deck of cards to help me tell the story,” said Michael, who was standing in front of the judges’ desk. He asked Alesha Dixon to shuffle the cards well, before instructing Shane Jacobson to choose any card, sign his name on it and show the other judges and audience the card. Michael took that signed card - without seeing which one it was - and shuffled it into the deck. “I came here to tell you all a story that means a lot to me. And I hope you like it,” Michael began, holding onto the deck of cards. “It’s actually a story about a guy I know named Jack,” he said, as he drew a Jack card from the deck, stunning the audience. “And if you met Jack, you’d probably think he’s the luckiest guy in the world." “He’s got a loving family and plenty of mates. And they think he’s kind of funny, they always think of him as a bit of a joker,” he said pulling out a Joker card. “When he’s out on the town with his mates, they really get around him. They call him the king,” he said, drawing a King card. “Which is kind of ironic,” he continued, as he pulled out a Queen card, “because whenever the night ends up at the karaoke bar, he’s always the one always singing Queen.” The story continued and Michael kept drawing cards that perfectly linked to his story such as “full house” and “flush” and relevant numbers. “But even on the most joyous of occasions, like Christmas, or even his birthday, he would often look around at the full house of family and friends having such a good time." <div> “And he’d stop and think, what’s wrong with me? Like, why can’t I have fun?" “The more he thought about this, the worse he felt, and the worst he felt the more guilty he felt." “And all of a sudden, he’d have shame and become flushed with emotion. So what would Jack do? He’d find a nice quiet room in the house and cry." “You see, Jack was a 28-year-old man and, in his mind, 28-year-old males - they need to be strong, and they don’t talk about their feelings.” Michael said that it was not until “Jack” learned that one in 10 Australians actually sought professional help that he realised he wasn’t alone, and told his friends about his struggles. “(Jack’s friends) thought it showed true heart to talk about his feelings,” Michael said. “So he started to do some research and he was shocked to learn that, in the most recent year, 3318 Australians took their own lives. “That’s 63 people every single week, and, for every person that did, another 20 attempted to. “In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged between 15 to 44 - and he didn’t want to become another statistic.” Michael added that "Jack" was inspired by hearing other people's stories, including those from “Australian royalty” such as Miranda Kerr, Julia Gillard and Buddy Franklin. “Hearing these people share their own personal stories about their struggles helped Jack recognise his fears and made him realise he’s not alone,” Michael said. “So do you know what Jack decided to do?" “Jack decided to share his story on Australia’s Got Talent, and by sharing this story today, I hope I can make just at least one person get their head straight,” Michael said, holding back tears. Trying to control his emotions, Shane whispered to him, “You’re doing great, mate.” Michael continued, “I want all Australians genuinely who are struggling with their mental health to remember that without the rain there can be no rainbow. ”So I want all Australians to shine bright like a diamond,” he said, pulling on Shane’s signed ace of diamonds card - stunning the room. Shane told Michael that the issue of mental health awareness is very close to his heart, and he praised him for sharing his "incredibly personal" story on such a public stage. “You, my friend, are incredibly brave, know that,” he said. “Thank you so much for sharing your story and making people aware that they are not alone,” Kate Ritchie told the talent. David Walliams said he has never heard the audience so quiet during an act, before saying, “You are magic because you’ll have changed people’s lives.” Michael went on to get four yes votes from the judges, moving on to the next round. Karl Stefanovic tears up over daughter

Karl Stefanovic has broken down on TV as he spoke about his daughter completing her end-of-year school exams. The Today Show hosts were speaking about the flooding in Victoria and the difficulties some students would be facing for their final exams. "They weren't real tears": Damning testimony at Melissa Caddick inquest

One of the first police officers to interview Melissa Caddick’s husband has said he was acting extremely strangely and, when seen crying, wasn’t shedding “real tears”. Sergeant Trent Riley told the inquest into Caddick’s death of Anthony Koletti’s behaviour after he reported her missing 28 hours after he says she left their <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/property/real-estate/melissa-caddick-s-husband-ordered-to-vacate-15-million-mansion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dover Heights home</a>. Louise Coleman, the junior counsel assisting, asked whether Sergeant Riley believed Koletti’s behaviour “was extremely strange and unusual”, to which he said, “Yes”. “I thought it was strange a husband would ring the police station, report his wife missing two days later and wasn't prepared to come to the police station,” Sergeant Riley said. “Or didn't really want police to go around and see him (because) he had too much work on that day.” Since the inquest began on Monday, it has been heard that Koletti impersonated Caddick the day after she went missing and falsely told friends he was with her at home. Koletti cancelled an appointment with their cleaner via text using his wife’s phone and lied to Caddick’s brother Adam Grimley and friend Scott Little in text messages, telling them he was home with her when he hadn’t actually seen her that day. Coleman asked Sergeant Riley about the text message sent to the cleaner, which he described as strange. “I did think it was strange,” he said. “(He) contacted her closest friends but hadn’t let them know she was missing?” Coleman asked. “He did. Very strange,” Sergeant Riley said. The part-time hairdresser and DJ reported that his wife <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/wild-theories-over-melissa-caddick-disappearance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was missing</a> on November 30, just over a day after he said she left the house to go for a walk or a run. The inquest heard on Wednesday that Sergeant Riley’s suspicions prompted him to visit Koletti at the couple’s home in the eastern suburbs, with his body-cam footage played before the court. “You can’t be too careful these days,” Koletti can be heard saying while unlocking one of the doors. In the cellar, Koletti points out that Caddick “hasn’t even taken any grog”. On the upstairs deck, where the Harbour Bridge could be seen in the background, Sergeant Riley mentioned that it was a good spot for New Year’s Eve. “I was looking forward to New Year's Eve, but I don't know now. It doesn't mean anything when you don't have the love of your life,” Koletti responds. “Did you go anywhere last night?” Sergeant Riley asks again. “Not that I know of,” Mr Koletti says. Sergeant Riley repeatedly says he doesn’t believe Koletti is telling him the complete truth. “Like I said before I think there's something you're not telling me,” Sergeant Riley says. “I told you if something comes up I will tell you ... I've been on this for a long time now,” Koletti responds. Solicitor Judy Swan, who is representing Koletti, pointed out to the sergeant that her client began to cry at the end of the search and interview. “They weren't real tears in my opinion ... I'm very confident they weren't real tears,” Sergeant Riley said. He noted that Koletti gave him two different versions of the last time he saw Caddick, first telling police that he wasn’t worried about his wife and hadn’t left home at all and later saying he had spent the day searching above the ocean near The Gap. “(He says) he didn't think she was missing but he was checking the cliffs around Rodney Reserve all day,” Coleman said. “Extremely strange,” Sergeant Riley responded. The officer, who was unaware that the couple’s home had been raided by the Australian Federal Police and Australian Securities and Investments Commission on November 11, added that he was bewildered by Koletti’s ability to describe the clothes his wife was wearing when she left the house, despite not seeing her leave.
