Catch of the day: bride hauls in shark at her wedding!

<p>Most brides on their big day are content with a nice bouquet, a slice of cake and a husband who hasn’t locked his knees and fainted at the altar. But Miccala Toms of Darwin had slightly more ambitious ideas – and they involved beer, fishing and a decent-sized aquatic predator.</p> <p>After saying “I do” to her now-husband Brodie, the couple did what any sensible Territorians would do in the sweltering heat: they swung by the Dundee Tavern for a couple of cold ones and some casual wedding photos. You know – veil, vows and VB.</p> <p>But while some brides might be focused on getting the perfect shot with golden sunlight and maybe a well-behaved Labradoodle, Miccala spotted a local teen fishing off the rocks and thought, “Now <em>that’s </em>a vibe.”</p> <p>“It was a hot day,” Miccala explained on the <em>Today </em>show. “So we thought we’d have a few drinks and take some photos at the front.” The vibe was clearly: bridal glam meets bush telly.</p> <p>The helpful teen handed over his fishing rod – probably assuming she’d hook a little barra or, at worst, a mildly confused crab. But Darwin had other plans.</p> <p>Cue dramatic <em>Jaws</em> music.</p> <p>What Miccala thought would be a cute “bride-with-fish” moment turned into a full-on marine wrestling match when something large, scaly and very toothy yanked on the line.</p> <p>“It was a shark and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, it’s a shark!’” she recalled, possibly while her wedding photographer simultaneously reconsidered their life choices.</p> <p>In true Northern Territory fashion, this bride did not flinch. In fact, she dug in her heels (or possibly bare feet, unclear), while Brodie jumped in to help haul in the unexpected guest star of their wedding album.</p> <p>And because true love is built on mutual support, Brodie did what any man witnessing his wife dragging a shark in her wedding dress would do: picked the beast up by the tail so they could pose together, glowing with wedded bliss and mild concern for their fingers.</p> <p>The shark, possibly the only one more confused than the couple, was photographed before being safely released back into the water, no doubt with a wild story to tell its shark mates. </p> <p>As for Brodie? He knows he’s punched above his weight. “To be honest, I wouldn’t be here without her, that’s for damn sure,” he said. “She’s given me three lovely children and made me the happiest I’ve ever been, so can’t let it go now.”</p> <p>And why would he? When you marry a woman who’ll fish in full bridal gear and take a spill while catching a shark with a beer buzz and a grin... well, you know you’ve found The One.</p> <p>Moral of the story? Hollywood legend reveals secret cancer battle

<p>Hollywood icon Anjelica Huston has opened up for the first time about her private battle with cancer, revealing she was diagnosed back in 2019 but is now celebrating four years of being cancer-free.</p> <p>The Oscar-winning actress, 73, shared that the diagnosis came as a “big shock” shortly after the release of <em>John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum</em>, in which she starred alongside Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry. While Huston chose not to disclose the exact type of cancer she faced, she expressed pride in overcoming the illness and praised her medical team for their care.</p> <p>“It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go,” Huston told <em>People</em> magazine. “Sometimes you feel like you don't want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there's a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one's come through.”</p> <p>Reflecting on her journey, she added, “I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself.”</p> <p>Huston, best known for her roles in <em>The Addams Family</em>, <em>The Witches</em>, and <em>Prizzi's Honor</em>, comes from a legendary Hollywood lineage. She is the daughter of famed director and screenwriter John Huston and the granddaughter of Canadian star Walter Huston. Several of her siblings have also pursued acting careers.</p> <p>Her personal life has also captured public interest over the years. Huston famously dated actor Jack Nicholson, describing their relationship as an "emotional rollercoaster." AFL royalty unite in a star-studded Noosa wedding

<p>In a celebration absolutely fit for footy royalty, the families of two AFL greats officially became one, as Ruby Brownless and Josh Wallis tied the knot in a breathtaking ceremony in Noosa over the weekend.</p> <p>Ruby, the daughter of Geelong legend Billy Brownless, and Josh, the son of Western Bulldogs icon Stephen Wallis, exchanged vows in a magnificent event that defied AFL traditions. Despite the league's unwritten rule of keeping key dates like Round 1 and grand final day clear, the happy couple chose to mark their special day as the Cats took the field for their season opener.</p> <p>The wedding was a glittering affair attended by a host of AFL stars, past and present, with family and friends flying in to witness the heartwarming union. Among the high-profile guests was Ruby’s mother, Nicky Brownless, who is engaged to Melbourne great and expert commentator Garry Lyon. With Josh’s brother, Mitch, having played 162 games for the Bulldogs and Ruby’s brother, Oscar, once listed with Geelong, the occasion was a true meeting of AFL dynasties.</p> <p>Proud father Billy Brownless, known for his jovial personality, shared his delight in walking his daughter down the aisle. Calling into his Triple M show the following day, he said, “(It was) beautiful. I’ve had a couple of limoncellos so I’m a bit dusty. We got dropped off at this beautiful area and there was just limoncellos. I didn’t think they had any alcohol in them, and after about seven I had a look and they’re nine per cent!”</p> <p>During the speeches, Billy moved guests to laughter and tears with a heartfelt poem. “When your daughters get married, it’s from the heart,” he said before reciting, “Roses are red. Violets are blue. I love you from here to Timbuktu.”</p> <p>The wedding had been highly anticipated ever since Ruby and Josh announced their engagement in 2022 during a romantic getaway to Hayman Island. <p>AFL star Jeremy Finlayson's wife Kellie Finlayson has revealed she's had a bit of a setback with her health and is spending her second wedding anniversary in hospital. </p> <p>The 29-year-old is battling terminal stage four bowel cancer that metastasised in her lungs. </p> <p>She took to Instagram to share the update from her hospital bed, with a picture of the happy couple showing off their rings on their wedding day, and an updated photo of herself in the ward, with the caption: "Happy anniversary darl. Two years ago V. Today!"</p> <p>"Happy anniversary to me," she added, using a crying with laughter emoji and a bandaged love heart emoji.</p> <p>The AFL star shared his own anniversary message with an Instagram story, writing: "Happy anniversary <3" </p> <p>Kellie did not explain why she was hospitalised. </p> <p>The couple tied the knot back in March 2023 in South Australia.</p> <p>Kellie, who is a mother-of-one, was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 25. </p> <p>She previously opened up about her diagnosis on the Nova podcast <em>Head Game</em>, and shared just how hard her chemotherapy treatment was. </p> <p>"I lost a s--t ton of weight. I mean, I had a stoma, so I had a foreign object on my stomach. I wasn't the normal mum that she should have had, but I was as good as I possibly could be. It was hard," she said at the time. </p> <p>"I was allergic to one of the strands of that chemotherapy, which is why, when I did relapse, I had to change chemotherapy, which meant I lost my hair.</p> <p>"I was on my deathbed. <p>A centenarian has share the few simple things she credits for her long life, just days after celebrating her 100th birthday. </p> <p>Sydney woman Betty Woodhams spent her milestone birthday doing one of her favourite things: buying for new plants from Bunnings. </p> <p>Woodhams was treated to a warm reception from staff as she perused the aisles snapping up new flowers for her small balcony garden. </p> <p>The mother-of-two told <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-14414941/I-just-turned-100-life-lessons-want-young-person-know-late-beauty-secret-Ive-sworn-years.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Daily Mail Australia</em></a> that she credits her age and enduring happiness down to great friends, a balanced diet, no regrets and "always wearing a hat".</p> <p>"Try to stay happy, even when things may seem like they are getting the better of you," Betty told the publication.</p> <p>"There really is something good in everything. Relaxing with a glass of wine at dinner or enjoying the odd champagne or two with friends always helps too."</p> <p>Betty grew up in Parramatta before moving to Bondi when she married her late husband Ron in 1951.</p> <p>The couple then built their dream house in Tambourine Bay, Lane Cove, while Betty immersed herself in her career as a secretary in the TV and publishing industry.</p> <p>Betty always surrounds herself with good friends, stays socially active and never sweats the small stuff, as she said, "don't get stuck on the negative things".</p> <p>"It doesn't matter what your age is, there's always something you can do to stay active whether it's walking, gardening, swimming or even a day at the races," she says. </p> <p>"Age is just a number. We do all age but you choose to get old!"</p> <p>Betty also hopes to change the perception of "getting older" and insists there's nothing "boring" about it, as she said, "People assume that life gets boring and quiet. Anthony Albanese shares wedding details

<p>Anthony Albanese and his fiancé Jodie Haydon have revealed details of their upcoming wedding for the first time. </p> <p>Chatting candidly with Australian Women's Weekly, the couple admitted they are planning to tie the knot in a "small, intimate ceremony" in spring after the federal election.</p> <p>"Our wedding will be a moment when we make that commitment," Haydon told the magazine.</p> <p>"We're doing it in front of family and loved ones, and I see that as … for us. It's something we're looking forward to — an important and symbolic way to reaffirm our commitment with each other."</p> <p>Albanese and Haydon are planning on waiting until after the election, which is expected to be held in April or May, to get married in order to not have their big day wrapped up in politics. </p> <p>The ceremony will not be held in a Catholic church due to Albanese's prior divorce but could be outdoors, Haydon added, with their dog Toto playing a role.</p> <p>"It will be small, intimate," Haydon said. Bindi Irwin opens up about Steve's secret health battle

<p>Bindi Irwin has opened up about her "whirlwind" life with her late father Steve Irwin before he tragically died. </p> <p>Speaking to Sarah Grynberg on the <em>A Life of Greatness</em> podcast, the wildlife warrior said her family's life was a "hurricane of adventure and wonder because of dad" before he passed away when she was juts eight years old. </p> <p>Bindi also candidly revealed that Steve suffered "terrible insomnia" which caused him to wake up in the dead of night.</p> <p>"He had terrible insomnia. I mean, he just never slept," she said.</p> <p>"He would wake up at 2am and by the time everyone else's workday has started, he'd put in a full day's work," she said.</p> <p>Steve Irwin's incredible work ethic was recently discovered in the Australia Zoo offices when staff were clearing out a cupboard before a renovation, which Bindi was quick to vouch for. </p> <p>"People may not realise that he had such a scientific mind," she said.</p> <p>"I was looking through his journals and he would just write down, I mean, thousands, it's not an exaggeration, but thousands of pages worth of information and facts and studies and findings."</p> <p>She said "by the time everyone else's workday has started, he'd put in a full day's work, and he would spend that time because the world is dark".</p> <p>"He would spend that time researching and studying. And that's where these journals came from."</p> <p>The wildlife warrior then opened up about her journey with grief, recalling when Steve passed away in 2006.</p> <p>"I remember when I was little and dad had just died, every adult that I saw would say to me: 'Time heals all wounds.' And I remember thinking, as an eight year old: 'What in the heck does that mean?' Why do people keep telling me like, one day I'll forget about this?" she said.</p> <p>"It actually made me a little bit scared," Bindi said, adding that she now knew "that information is wrong".</p> <p>"So firstly, don't say that to an eight-year-old. Time changes your grief. Time changes things and your perspective and everything," she continued.</p> <p>"But I know firsthand that the grief and the sadness and the feeling of loss from losing dad. That feeling is just a part of me. <p>Aussie actor Guy Pearce and Carice van Houten, the mother of his son, have split.</p> <p>The <em>Game of Thrones </em>actress took to Instagram to confirm their split, and that the pair have remained close as they co-parent. </p> <p>“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear,” she shared on her Instagram story alongside a photo of the pair. </p> <p>“He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years.</p> <p>“I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives - our beautiful son. I was living that love secretly,” Dion said in 2016.</p> <p>“When I was at the age to be able to say to people … It was like bang! Love! <p>In a festive bombshell that’s left the tinsel trembling, popular radio talkback host Kate Ritchie dropped a yuletide nugget on her Fitzy & Wippa radio show that had her co-hosts laughing harder than Santa after one too many eggnogs.</p> <p>The former <em>Home and Away </em>star couldn’t resist spilling the beans about a certain co-star’s unconventional approach to Christmas decor. Spoiler: It’s as timeless as the love between Alf Stewart and his flaming galah.</p> <p>The revelation came during a lively discussion about Christmas traditions. As the trio playfully debated who might blast carols all year long, Wippa quipped, “Yeah, they’re the ones who leave the tree up all year because they’re lazy.” Cue Kate’s awkward laugh – and the kind of body language that screams, <em>I know something you don’t</em>.</p> <p>After much coaxing, Kate finally confessed: “I know someone who does that.” Her vague hints about the mystery person – “They’re not there a lot” and “They usually come home in summer” – only deepened the intrigue. Mystery couple pay off dozens of toy laybys ahead of Christmas

<p>An anonymous couple has paid off the layby gifts for almost 100 Melbourne families at Toyworld Pakenham. </p> <p>The mystery secret Santa put the plan into motion almost six months ago, chipping away at layby balances for families at the toy store. </p> <p>The kind act was revealed on Wednesday, with tearful customers thanking the family. </p> <p>“My children are actually going to have a great Christmas, thank you to all these people,” customer and mum-of-two Melissa Roberson told <em>7NEWS </em>through tears.</p> <p>“It’s going to help us significantly.”</p> <p>Toyworld employee Sandra Evans said: “I don’t know much about the family, all I know is that it’s a husband and wife and they’ve got four young children." </p> <p>“It’s been going for a while, so to hide that from everybody that comes in asking ‘can I put this on layby’, thinking 'you’re going to get this paid off soon’.”</p> <p>The couple were not the only ones who are trying to spread some Christmas cheer, last week a mystery Good Samaritan performed a similar act at Toyworld in Helensvale on the Gold Coast. </p> <p>Customer and mum Brooklyn Manu received a call saying a generous gentleman had walked in the store and told the manager he would pay off every layby item in the store - including the presents she was paying off for her children. </p> <p>“We were very teary-eyed, all of us were,” Toyworld manager Aleka Riggs said.</p> <p>“It’s a feel-good thing you don’t see a lot, it’s beyond kindness — really amazing someone would do that.”</p> <p>All those families have now saved thousands of dollars, and Riggs said: “Just thank you again, I can only imagine there are a lot of families that might be struggling to pay those laybys off."</p> <p><em>Image: 7NEWS</em></p>

Etiquette experts reveals top wedding guest faux pas

<p dir="ltr">While weddings are joyous occasions filled with love and happiness, guests can often be left feeling perplexed over unspoken rules and expectations for what is expected at a loved one’s big day. </p> <p dir="ltr">Wedding etiquette expert Angela DeMaio has shared the five most common faux pas guests can be guilty of committing at a wedding, and revealed how to avoid them.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Ignoring seating arrangements </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">While it might seem like not a big deal to switch seats or sit wherever you feel comfortable, this can disrupt the couple's carefully planned arrangements that are in place for a reason. </p> <p dir="ltr">DeMaio said, “Seating arrangements are often crafted with thought, considering relationships and group dynamics.”</p> <p dir="ltr">According to the expert, ignoring seating plans can disturb the balance the couple has tried to create, so to respect the newlywed’s efforts, it's important to be mindful of where each guest is seated. </p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Getting in the way of photographers</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">It’s the photographer’s job to capture the heartfelt moments at a wedding, and blocking the shot or getting in the way can have major consequences. </p> <p dir="ltr">According to DeMaio, guests should especially avoid stepping into the aisle during the processional or standing in the way of key moments, such as the couple's first dance. </p> <p dir="ltr">Being patient and respectful of the photographer's space ensures the couple gets the perfect shots without disruption. </p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Going too hard at an open bar </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">While many guests look forward to partaking in free drinks at an open bar during a wedding ceremony, it’s important to drink in moderation. </p> <p dir="ltr">DeMaio warned guests to pace themselves with water in between alcoholic beverages, as no one wants to be remembered as the guest who got embarrassingly drunk. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Weddings are joyous occasions, but they're not the time for drunken antics or behaviour that distracts from the couple's special day,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Not saying goodbye to the couple </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">As a wedding night winds down, it's easy to be tempted by an Irish goodbye, or just leaving the event without doing the goodbye rounds. </p> <p dir="ltr">However, failing to acknowledge the couple before leaving can come across as rude or dismissive, as leaving without acknowledging the couple can leave them wondering if you truly valued the celebration.</p> <p dir="ltr">DeMaio suggested, “If possible, thank the bride and groom in person for the invitation, as it's a small gesture that goes a long way.”</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Posting photos online without permission</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">In the golden age of social media, it's tempting to share every moment of the wedding, but this can lead to unintended consequences. </p> <p dir="ltr">As someone’s wedding is a deeply personal event, most couples prefer to have control over when and how their wedding photos are shared. </p> <p dir="ltr">According to DeMaio, it's crucial for guests to wait until the couple has posted their own photographs before sharing anything, or asking for explicit permission to post photos online.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image credits: Shutterstock </em></p> <p> </p>

Unbelievable moment couple tie the knot while skydiving

<p>AFL star Darcy Fort is married!</p> <p>The Brisbane Lions player, 31, has tied the knot with partner Jasmine Weiss. </p> <p>The club shared the happy news on their official Instagram page, with the caption: "Congratulations to @darcyfort and his partner Jasmine on tying the knot over the break!
