US school teacher sacked after reading Aussie book to class

A US primary school teacher is forced to resign or terminate her contract after reading an Aussie book to her class.

Katie Rinderle, from Cobb County, Georgia wanted to teach her fifth graders about inclusion and acceptance through Aussie author Scott Stuart’s book, My Shadow is Purple.

The book itself explores this through the theme of “gender beyond the binary” and the story of a child who neither identifies as a boy or girl.

Rinderle discussed the main message behind the book before asking them to reflect and write their own poem, which has been praised by some parents.

However, not all of them were happy about Rinderle’s initiative and one parent filed a complaint which led to an investigation.

Rinderle was sacked for violating the Divisive Concepts law, which disallows teachers from educating about divisive concepts and was given the notice of termination on June 6.

Investigators reportedly deemed the book to be “pornographic” material which included “inappropriate topics”.

Stuart, the author of the book, responded to the situation and shared his “disgust” on TikTok.

“A teacher’s just been fired for reading one of my books,” he said in the video.

“(She) had parents reaching out saying that this kind of lesson was something that they wanted in the class. This is a teacher who gets phenomenal feedback from the principal, the students, the parents.

“Her teaching is described as transformative and key to the school’s success,” he defended Rinderle.

“This whole thing just really goes to show how much more interested the school system in the US is in playing politics than they are in educating kids,” he added

“It’s gross. It’s disgusting.”.

Cobb County School District has responded to the situation in a statement to FOX 5 and claimed that any action taken was “appropriate considering the entirety of the teacher’s behaviour and history”.

“The District remains committed to strictly enforcing all Board policy, and the law,” the statement concluded.

Rinderle will face a termination hearing in August.

Images: TikTok

“A tragedy for our nation”: Reason for Scott Morrison’s firing 16 years ago revealed

The woman who sacked former Prime Minister Scott Morrison from Tourism Australia has finally opened up about the mysterious end to his time there and shared how she was “gobsmacked” that he went on to become PM.

Mr Morrison’s firing from Tourism Australia in 2006 has long been shrouded in mystery, but Fran Bailey - who was Tourism Minister at the time and ordered the Chair of Tourism Australia to fire Mr Morrison - has now spoken about the decision in a brutal interview with the Sunday Age.

Ms Bailey reportedly chose to finally speak on the record after she was left incensed by the revelations that Mr Morrison secretly swore himself into five additional ministerial positions while he was Prime Minister.

"What has changed my mind is that all of those characteristics that make up Scott Morrison – the secrecy... the supreme belief that only he can do a job, the lack of consultation with those closest to him – those characteristics were evident 16 years ago, and perhaps we’re seeing the end result of those now," she told the paper’s longtime columnist, Jon Faine.

Echoing a common criticism of Mr Morrison, Ms Bailey said he took a bullying approach to his work, which eventually led to those in senior positions having less trust that he could do his job.

"It came down to a complete lack of trust. It’s not something that I have stewed over for all those 16 years, but I certainly have become very concerned as he worked his way through the ministry, and I was gobsmacked when he became prime minister," she said.

"Because I knew what he was really like to work with, and I think that’s been a tragedy for the Liberal Party and it has been a tragedy for our nation."

Ms Bailey is one of many critics calling on Mr Morrison to leave Parliament following the revelations, as former High Court judge Virginia Bell is expected to head an inquiry into his actions and hand down a report on November 25.

The inquiry will examine Mr Morrison’s ministerial appointments and the functioning of departments, government business enterprises and statutory bodies.

It comes after advice released last week from Australia’s solicitor-general found that Mr Morrison didn’t break any laws, but that his actions undermined the principles of “responsible government”.

Image: Getty Images

Waitress SACKED after receiving $6000 tip

After receiving a hefty tip of $USD 4400 ($AUD 6100), a US waitress has been fired after the restaurant she worked for demanded she share it with the rest of the staff.

Ryan Brandt was one of two employees serving a party of more than 40 people at the Oven and Tap in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The pair received the tip through a “$100 Dinner Club” organised by Grant Wise, the owner of a local real estate company, where each person dining would contribute a $100 tip ($AUD 139).

Wise, who came up with the idea during the COVID-19 pandemic, told KNWA that he called the restaurant ahead of their booking to confirm that servers don’t share tips.

He said the gesture was meant to be “an effort to bless the servers who waited on our party that night”.

“I’m so sorry to interrupt everyone’s dinner, this will only take 60 seconds,” Wise said in footage shared on Instagram.
<blockquote style="background: #FFF; Mother sacks babysitter over disturbing nanny cam footage

A mother has not been able to hold back her disgust after sacking her nanny.

The mum said that she was shocked to discover that the nanny she hired to look after her 10-month-old son and five-year-old daughter had secretly been breastfeeding the son.

The nanny started attempting to nurse the baby after the mother had confided in her about her issues with breastfeeding.

“During a conversation that we had recently (maybe two weeks ago), I mentioned that I don’t produce much milk which forces me to rely on donor milk to feed my son,” the mum confessed in the Reddit post.

“She was very sympathetic and inquisitive about the situation, and I was happy to answer all of her questions while simultaneously thinking nothing of it.”

It was only after the mother checked the nanny cams that were set up in the house that she made the discovery.

“I have nanny cameras set up in the living room and in my bedroom that my husband and I can access at anytime when we’re not home, but I never feel compelled to check for the simple fact that I trust my nanny,” she explained.

“However, I was having a rough day yesterday and wanted to see what the little ones were up to so I decided to pop in. My nanny was sitting on my bed, rocking my son, and attempting to breastfeed him.

“I almost felt sick, it just seemed so inappropriate. I decided to wait until I got home to confront her about it, and when I asked she was incredibly apologetic. She said she wanted to help me because of my milk production issues and never meant any harm.”

The mother initially accepted the apology, but became suspicious and went through old footage.

To her horror, she discovered that the nanny breastfeeding her son wasn't a one-off occurrence.

“She unplugs the camera in my bedroom when she goes to put him down for naps and plugs it back in when she leaves,” she added.

“After reviewing our recordings this wasn’t the first time she attempted to breastfeed my son, among a few other questionable things (closing my daughter in the pantry, leaving my son in the backyard unattended, etc).”

If that's not bad enough, the mother also discovered that some treasured baby items were missing.

“A couple of my son’s first outfits (first onesie, first Halloween costume) were gone as well as a small blanket that belonged to my daughter, and a box of old baby clothes I was going to donate,” she added.

“These were returned to me by [the nanny’s] father minus the blanket because she can’t find it.”

The mother said she’s been left "heartbroken" by the incident.

“We’ve decided to let her go, obviously, and I’m going to be taking a few weeks of leave to take my kids in for check-ups,” she added.

“My husband and I are horrified and heartbroken that we facilitated a situation in which our children’s safety was put at risk.”

Channel 9 under pressure to sack Sam Newman after comments on George Floyd

Sam Newman has been pushing the limits – and largely getting away with it – for 40 years as a radio and TV personality.

But this time, he may have taken it too far.

Anger is brewing after the 74-year-old former AFL star made a few comments about George Floyd, an American man who died while being held by police in Minnesota.

While describing Floyd’s death as “disgraceful”, Newman suggested the pedestal he was being put up on as the face of the Black Lives Matter movement was wrong because of his history.

“George Floyd … is piece of shit,” Newman said on his podcast You Cannot Be Serious. “He has been in jail five times, he held up a pregnant black woman with a knife, he’s a drug addict, he’s a crackhead and he’s a pornstar.”

“He’s dead because of the police brutality and it never should have happened. But I am telling you who George Floyd is, now they’ve made a monument about him and he’s a piece of shit”.

The comments have caused severe backlash against the host, with Channel 9 – which recently brought Newman on for a weekly segment on its Sunday Footy Show program – under pressure to sack him.

Jim Malo, a property writer with Nine-owned Domain, tweeted: “Genuinely ashamed this clown is employed by the same company as me.”

Mike Carlton added: “How much longer will Nine put up with this vulgar, ranting, knuckle-dragging f***wit?”

Rosie Thomas, the co-founder of Project Rockit, a youth-driven movement against bullying, hate and prejudice, tweeted to Channel 9 saying “it’s time to #StandDownSam hate is not commentary and it’s definitely not footy”.

She linked to an online petition calling for Newman’s long association with the broadcaster to end.
“Channel 9 has given one of Australia’s most prominent racists an unrivalled, paid platform to broadcast his hateful, racist views,” the petition read.

“In pursuit of ratings and profit during a shortened footy season, Channel 9 is banking on racism to make back their advertising bucks. And by doing so, Channel 9 has made itself complicit in fuelling hatred and violence.

“Newman’s hate speech normalises bigotry and emboldens those who seek to do harm to Black people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Muslim people, and others.

“We need your help to show Channel 9 this is the wrong decision. It needs to take responsibility for its role in the spread of hatred, violence, and bigotry.”

Newman infamously wore blackface on an episode of The Footy Show in 1999 and was forced to apologise to the indigenous community.

Australian lawyer allegedly sacked for refusing to lie

A corporate lawyer has commenced proceedings in the Federal Circuit Court after he was terminated from his position as a senior legal adviser with Meriton Property Services for allegedly refusing to lie in an affidavit.

Sydney lawyer Joseph Callahan is claiming $556,500 in compensation and costs after being terminated from his $350,000 a year position in February 2020.

He claims that during a meeting on 3 February 2020, his employer, billionaire property developer Harry Triguboff, demanded that he falsely state in an affidavit that Sydney Council had taken three years to approve a development application.

According to his statement of claim, the lawyer responded by stating, “I’m a solicitor and can’t include something in an affidavit which I know isn’t true”.

He says his employer then said, “Listen my friend, you write it my way or you can fuck off”, and “Fuck you. I pay you to win cases do you understand?”.

Mr Callahan says he then told his employer, “I understand I am here to win cases, but it did not take three years to get the building approved, so I can’t give evidence to the Court that it did”, to which Mr Triguboff responded, “Enough crap from you. Write it my way or you are no good to me”.

The lawyers says he stood his ground, telling his employer “Harry I won’t do it. It’s a lie”.

He says his employer emailed him on 13 February 2020 to advise that his position had been terminated.

Meriton Property Services refutes the allegations, filing a defence which states:

“All allegations that suggest otherwise are strongly denied. Meriton disputes the sequence and nature of the events set out in the court filing”.

The case is listed for hearing on 17 June 2020.

The offence of swearing a false Prince Charles advised Queen that she “must sack Prince Andrew to save monarchy”

The Prince of Wales reportedly advised the Queen that she must effectively sack Prince Andrew to safeguard the long-term future of the monarchy, according to MSN.

Prince Charles moved quickly to end his brother’s career in public life after the damaging interview Prince Andrew did with BBC’s Newsnight, where he was questioned over his “ill-judged” friendship with sex offender billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Andrew also showed no remorse during the interview, although this has quickly been rectified in the statement where Prince Andrew announced he was stepping down from his royal duties for the “foreseeable future”.

“This is not about personalities, this is about protecting the institution of the monarchy itself,” a senior figure said.

There could be only one conclusion… The Duke of York had to withdraw from the fray and from public life.

"It is very sad. Obviously, both the Queen and the prince love Andrew … but the health of the monarchy is too important to risk.”

The fallout of Prince Andrew stepping back from royal duties means that he is facing being stripped of the salary he receives from the Queen, which comes to a shocking £249,000 ($AUD 473,347) a year.

A lawyer who represents some of Epstein’s alleged victims has threatened to subpoena Prince Andrew to force him to give evidence under oath.

Lisa Bloom, who is the lawyer representing five of Epstein’s alleged victims, said that the subpoena was being considered.

She told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “We believe nobody is above the law and everybody should have to answer questions if they have relevant information — and he clearly does have relevant information.

"Documents should be turned over — emails, texts, calendars, phone logs, travel logs, so we can get to the bottom of this.”

South Australian Police have launched an investigation into a video that emerged showing one of their officers stoning a wombat.

The footage was posted to the Wombat Awareness Organisation Facebook page and it shows a disturbing scene of a man chasing the wombat down a dirt road while repeatedly throwing rocks at it.

Towards the end of the video, the wombat falls over and stops moving.

“You killed him, bro,” says the man behind the camera.

Disturbing video has emerged of a wombat being stoned to death by an off-duty police officer on the Eyre Peninsula. Calls for radio host Kyle Sandilands to be sacked after saying Virgin Mary was a “liar”

People of faith are protesting outside KIIS FM’s headquarters in Ryde, Sydney after Kyle Sandilands joked that the Virgin Mary was a “liar” who got “knocked up behind a camel shed”.

“I thought Mary was his (Jesus’) girlfriend but apparently it was the mother,” he said.

“And the mother lied obviously and told everyone, ‘Nah I got pregnant by a magical ghost’. Bulls**t.”

He then called anyone who believed in the Bible story “dumb”.

“You might believe everything that was written down 2000 years ago to be absolutely accurate. Good on you, you’re dumb. Dumb as dog s**t,” he said.

Sandilands has apologised for the video and did so last week. He told The Daily Telegraph that everyone is “entitled to their own religious beliefs” and that he’s “sorry if I offended anyone with my comments”.

However, this isn’t enough for protesters.

Protest leader Georgie Clark told Yahoo News Australia about their thoughts on the incident.

“We live in a country that has double standards because in the commercial code of conduct clause 214 states that a radio station cannot offend, discriminate against religion, sex, gender,” protest leader Georgie Clark said.

“Rugby Australia have the same code of conduct and he [Israel Folau] got sacked for quoting something he didn’t even write.

“Kyle from 106.5 KIIS FM went and discriminated against not only one religion but two. He discriminated and said things from his own heart. He called us dumb, he called us stupid, he called Muslims and Christians who believe in the Virgin Mary liars,” Clark said.

“What is the difference between offending a homosexual or a thief or a liar or an adulterer or a fornicator like Israel Folau did? But when it comes to religion they just want to sweep us under the carpet.”

Folau was sacked in April this year for sharing an image on his Instagram account which said ‘hell awaits drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters’.
