"Shame on you!" Robert De Niro's courtroom outburst

Robert De Niro has lost his temper in court, as his former assistant accused him of being abusive.

The Oscar-winning actor is being sued by Graham Chase Robinson, who worked as his assistant from 2008 until several months into 2019, for millions of dollars after claiming he was abusive when they worked together.

Robinson, 41, seeks $US12 million (approximately AUD$18 million) in damages for emotional distress and harm to her reputation, that she claims has left her jobless and unable to recover from the trauma of working for De Niro.

The jury is also considering evidence pertaining to a lawsuit De Niro filed against Robinson in which he claimed that she stole things from him, including five million points that could be used for airline flights.

De Niro is countersuing his former employee, seeking the return of three years of Robinson's salary.

Robinson's attorney Andrew Macurdy interrogated the actor over some of his questionable behaviour, including allegations that he spoke to Robinson while he was urinating, and claims that he called her a "b***h" to her face.

De Niro admitted that while he "got angry" at his former assistant, he was "never abusive".

Growing frustrated with the line of questioning, he exclaimed, "You got us all here for this?"

Eventually, he angrily looked toward Robinson and shouted, "Shame on you, Chase Robinson!"

De Niro was also asked by Macurdy if he he sued Robinson before she sued him because he wanted publicity.

"It draws attention to me. It's the last thing I wanted to do," De Niro said.

"Nobody wins": Sam Newman provides update after explosive outburst

The future of Sam Newman's podcast is in jeopardy after his co-host Don Scott has officially quit the program.

The shock exit comes after Newman launched into an expletive-ridden tirade at Scott last week in a now deleted segment of the podcast, which ended with Newman telling Scott to "f**k off" as he left the building.

Now, Scott has returned to the You Cannot Be Serious podcast, but only to confirm he isn't coming back.

“You do whatever you want to do … (but) what is the point of trying to have a discussion with somebody who is going off their brain?” Scott asked.

“You do not talk to anybody no matter whether it is on-air or wherever in life when they are not rational, so you walk away."

“I’m not getting into this … This is like a domestic and nobody wins in a domestic."

“You can put your view as much as you like and I am not here to defend or whatever else."

“Everybody has a different personality. I am not in to conflict.”

Newman, who refused to believe he overreacted during the argument, asked, “Can we finally say that you’re not going to do the podcast anymore? Is that what’s going to happen?”

Scott replied, “That’s fine at the moment, no.”

Newman doubled down, saying, “This is history … This is breaking news. Don has now left the building, as Elvis has, and he’s not going to do the podcast anymore."

“This is another show of disgraceful behaviour from someone who is acting like a child … it’s beyond belief.”

Later on social media, Newman said that if Scott wasn't taking part in the podcast anymore, he wasn't sure how long they would continue with the show.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by John ‘Sam’ Newman (@originalsmartassam)

“Won’t do it without Don, and even if he reconsiders, it will not be the same. L-plater attacked with traffic cone reveals what sparked road rage outburst

A Perth teenager was behind the wheel for the first time, when the "classy" passenger of a BMW behind erupted with rage.

The woman attacked the L-plater behind the wheel in a bizarre outburst, yelling out expletives and hurling a traffic cone in their direction.

The L-plater behind the wheel, Aleyna Helvaci, 16, was accompanied by a professional driving instructor when the ugly incident occurred after she accidentally stalled at a busy intersection.

“She was just full out wild, I turned (the car) back on, put my foot on the clutch, and everything was ready," Helvaci told 7 NEWS.

“I was going to take off, but before I could there was a really loud horn.”

Footage of the interaction went viral after the teen's mum posted the outburst on TikTok.

“F*** you” the woman screamed as she stormed down the road in front of standstill traffic before pretending to chuck her handbag in the car's direction.

She then reaches for a nearby traffic cone and hurls it at the car.

“F***ing sl**, move on up!” she screamed before storming back to her own car - its horn still blaring at the teen.

At one point, the equally enraged male driver held the horn down for nine seconds straight, as the person calmly filming the incident is told to note down the plate number.

The woman eventually sits back down in her car, but doesn't stop screaming expletives at the teen.

When they finally merged right to flee the scene, the driver got in on the action himself, honking his horn and flipping his middle finger at the teen.

The video racked up thousands of views on TikTok before it was removed, a number of people have slammed the SUV owner's “disgusting behaviour”, adding that “we were all learners at one stage”.

“Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I am so sick of this sh*t. Control your anger and grow up!” one commented.

“This is so bad! It’s always the ones with the rich cars too hey … Y’all so 'classy,'" wrote another.

Helvaci's family has since filed a police report and the teen told 7News that it would take some time before she felt safe behind the wheels again.

“It is all about building confidence in the end, so this is all part of the experience,” she said.

Images: TikTok

"Just back off": Karl Stefanovic's fiery outburst

An angry Karl Stefanovic has told politicians to “back off” and allow Aussies to make their own decisions when it comes to Covid.

Australia is currently recording on average 40,000 cases of Covid-19 daily and there are renewed calls to bring back some mandates, including masks.

Health officials across the country are warning of a third wave in the upcoming weeks from dominant Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5.

But The Today Show co-host has fired up saying it's time for Aussies to move on with their lives, following an appearance from Dr Nick Coatsworth.

“I just have to say this, I'm sick of governments being in our lives so much,” Karl said.

“Just back off. Let us make our own decisions about what we want to do with the families. Even the talk of mandating again, let us make our own decisions.

“We've done everything that you wanted. Most of us had at the least two jabs. Back off and let me make my own decisions.

“That's my point. My mum reckons, let's go back to where it was. Get it back on. Australia right now, happy days.”

Dr Coatsworth concurred with Karl saying it’s time for the government to end the Covid mandates.

“I think what many Australians feel and would agree with is that the time for mandating some of these interventions is at an end in July 2022,” he said.

Karl pointed out that many people were switching off about Covid while others were open to bring back mandates.

“But you've got to move on with this. Especially given the fact that a lot of people have had worse respiratory viruses than Covid was in the first place,” he continued.

“They're saying: 'Well damn it. I'm going to get out there. I'm not doing it anymore.'”

Dr Coatsworth replied: “I'm surprised in July 2022, Australia as a nation is starting to get really het up about this again.

“I think we really need to come together and realise, yes, it's a deal but it's not the same big deal that it was two years ago.”

Images: The Today Show

Ben Stiller dragged into fiery Kyrgios outburst

Fans of Nick Kyrgios are no strangers to the tennis bad boy's on-court antics. It's part of what makes him so watchable – especially since he so often has the prowess and natural talent to back it up and get the best of the world's top players.

But this week at Indian Wells the entertaining Aussie may have let his temper get the better of him during a tense and tight loss to Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.

Nadal was able to hang on and clinch the contest 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 – but there were plenty of fiery outbursts along the way to keep the audience enthralled. After being broken in the third, Kyrgios took aim at chair umpire Carlos Bernardes for failing to keep unruly elements of the crowd quiet – with quite a few occasions of people in the crown yelling just as the second serve was about to commence.

“How long are you going to let that s**t go on for? How long? How long? How long, bro? How long?” Kyrgios yelled at Bernardes. “If you did something about it before, maybe it wouldn’t have happened.

“It happens again and again — and look at the f***ing score! Look at the score! It’s your job to control that, no one else’s.

“It’ll keep happening over and over and over again. Say something!”

In his defence, Bernardes replied to Kyrgios that he had already instructed the crowd to remain silent. That last outburst came in the third set when Kyrgios made a surprising left-turn by dragging Ben Stiller into the argument.

The Hollywood heavyweight was perched in the front row, and when someone in the crowd angered Kyrgios, he called out to that person, “are you good at tennis?” before turning to Stiller to further illustrate his point “Exactly, so don’t tell me how to play. Do I tell HIM how to act?”

Kyrgios later revved up the crowd when he won a key point, but Nadal was able to hold serve and creep ahead 6-5.

After that the match continued to slip away, as Kyrgios missed a chance to break Nadal, who then progressed through to the semis.

Images: Getty

"I have outbursts": Djokovic breaks silence on US Open ejection

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has broken his silence after he was disqualified from the US Open after hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball.

He explained that he has "outbursts" and can't promise that it won't happen again.

He spoke in Rome ahead of competing in the Italian Open and said he was surprised he was disqualified from the competition but had accepted it.

“Of course it was very hard for me to accept right after it happened,” said the 33-year-old.

“For a couple of days I was in shock, and I was shaken by the whole default thing.

“I checked with Laura after the match. She said that she was fine. No big injuries.

“But, yeah, I mean, it was totally unexpected and very unintended, as well, of course to hit her.

“But as I said, when you hit the ball like that, as I hit it, you know, you have a chance to hit somebody that is on the court.

“The rules are clear, so I accepted it, and I had to move on. I have my first chance here in Rome.”

It was the tennis player's first defeat in 2020.

“I don’t think I will have any major issues coming back to the tour and being able to perform well and hit the tennis ball, of course during the point,” he said.

Djokovic also explained that he couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't happen again.

“I have outbursts, and this is kind of the personality and the player that I have always been, you know,” he said.

“Obviously went through ups and downs in my career, managing to control my emotions more or less.

“But you’re alone out there. It’s a lot of intensity and a lot of pressure.

“I cannot promise or I cannot guarantee that I will never ever do anything similar to that in my life. I don’t know.

“I mean, I definitely am going to try my best that something like that never happens again, obviously.”

“Should we bring back Karl?” Pauline Hanson’s outburst on Today show

One Nation leader, Pauline Hanson, faced a tough interrogation regarding her party’s latest antics while appearing on a breakfast show this morning – but she snapped back with equal amounts of ferocity.

TV veteran and co-host of the Today show Deborah Knight grilled Hanson over the successive opinion polls that revealed her party’s primary vote has collapsed, almost halving over the duration of the campaign.

“The latest Newspoll, it shows support for One Nation collapsing to four per cent, on par with Clive Palmer’s party,” said Knight.

“In light of all the things you’ve faced, all the scandals, all the things that have been going on, can you really blame people for having doubts about One Nation and considering Clive (Palmer) over you?”

And to absolutely no one’s surprise, the question was not received well by the Queensland senator.

Hanson took aim at the Today show’s abysmal ratings, which have plummeted since Karl Stefanovic was sacked at the end of last year.

Knight was his replacement, co-hosting the show with Georgie Gardner. But despite her years of experience in front of the camera, the new duo have not proven to be popular amongst viewers.

“I’ve actually gone up since the last election, unlike your show, Deb, since you’ve actually taken over,” said Hanson. “You’ve actually gone down in your viewership.”

“Ooh, you’re having a go,” Knight fired back.

And that wasn’t the end of it, as the politician then criticised Knight’s ability as a host.

“So, should you hand over your job or should we bring Karl back? Should we bring Karl back? You have a go at me about this all the time.”

The attack, which visibly shocked Knight, was posted to Today show’s social media accounts, but was quickly taken down in a matter of minutes.

A video of the segment was then posted on the Today show’s Facebook page, but was heavily edited to cut out Hanson’s comments regarding the program’s viewership.

Hanson then took to her own Facebook page to comment on the altercation:

“I got a little fired up in this interview but when the media attacks, you have to hit back,” she said.

“Funny how they deleted my comments about their terrible ratings from the videos they put out on Twitter and Facebook. Just goes to show you can’t trust media to let you know what really happened!”

Roger Federer shocks fans with furious foul-mouthed outburst

Roger Federer is now a step closer to his 100th career title, after facing a challenging match on Friday against Marton Fucsovics at the Dubai Championships.

The seven-time champion beat the Hungarian athlete 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 in less than ideal conditions which included intense winds and brief rain delays – forcing the normally calm Federer to lose his cool.

His frustration was evident as the 20-time grand slam winner swore so loudly at one point that the umpire hit him with a code violation.

“It was tricky. A couple of rain delays, especially one at five-all, coming back with sort of no preparation, you just have to serve,” said the Swiss player.

“We made the most of it. The tiebreaker was tough. I’m happy I found a way to get out of that one. That was an exciting match, to say the least.”

The 37-year-old is now set to face either Croatian player Borna Coric or Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the last four.

“You look at the score at home and it looks like an easy straight sets,” he said.

“But it’s so close, you can never underestimate anyone. I’m very happy with my level. It was tough with the wind, but it’s a challenge and that’s why I’m here.”

Federer had to secure two set points in an hour-long opener, as he was faced with tough conditions from the get-go. He ended up finishing with nine winners compared to an enormous 21 unforced errors.

He then found his momentum taking a 5-4 lead.

Are you rooting for Federer to take home the Dubai cup? Serena Williams breaks silence on US Open controversy

Tennis star Serena Williams has opened up for the first time about the controversy surrounding her US Open outburst against chair umpire Carlos Ramos last week.

Despite coach Patrick Mouratoglou admitting he was coaching the star through signals, the 23-time grand slam champion insisted she knew nothing about it.

Speaking to The Project in an interview to air next week, she said: “He said he made a motion.”

“I don’t understand what he was talking about. We’ve never had signals.”

Williams also emphasises her previous claim that female tennis players were treated differently to men on tour.

“I just don’t understand … if you’re a female, you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do,” she continued.

Williams received three code violations and game penalty as well as later receiving a $17,000 fine.

Tennis icon Billie Jean King expressed her support for Williams, saying that she believes a similar outburst by a man would't of had the same consequences.

“Several things went very wrong during the match,” King tweeted.

“Coaching on every point should be allowed in tennis. It isn’t, and as a result, a player was penalised for the actions of her coach. This should not happen.”

The controversy surrounding the incident was heightened even more after Herald Sun editorial cartoonist Mark Knight drew Williams in a fit of rage on the court with a baby’s dummy beside her.

The cartoon received a lot of backlash online, however, Knight and his editor Damon Johnston stood behind the depiction.

In one of her first appearances since the outburst, Williams spoke at an event in Las Vegas about standing up for the issues that are close to your heart.

"I feel it’s really important to stand up for what you believe in,” she said. “Especially if it can affect the future and affect a lot of people in the future. That’s what it’s all about.

“Really it’s just about having a great team and rolling up your sleeves and hard work.

”I work really, really hard at my game. And then I work super hard at my fashion business. And I’m working incredibly hard at being a mom.”

Aussies slam Serena Williams' outburst

After an eventful US Open final consisting of Serena Williams throwing a tantrum on the court, the champion player has been dubbed as disgraceful and disappointing by Australian media.

In the playoffs against 20-year-old Japanese player Naomi Osaka, Williams unleashed on the umpire when she was given a code violation for receiving instruction from her coach.

Clearly upset, she responded: “You owe me an apology. I’ve never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and stand for what’s right for her.”

After the events unfolded, Williams addressed her behaviour at a press conference.

“I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things. I’m here fighting for women’s rights and women’s equality,” she said.

“For me to say ‘thief’ and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was sexist.

“He’s never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’. For me, it blows my mind.”

Her conduct was the topic of discussion for commentators as they slammed Williams' comments.

Appearing on ABC’s Offsiders, Fairfax’s Caroline Wilson took offence after Williams justified her behaviour with the women’s rights argument.

“She is doing a terrible disservice to women’s rights, to the #metoo movement, to gender equality,” said Wilson.

“To say she’s fighting for women’s rights when what she is, is a bad sport. She’s not fighting for women’s rights, that is a joke and that’s an insult to people who do fight for women’s rights and go through terrible bloodshed and heartbreak.”

Wilson backed up her statements by pointing out Williams' history of bad behaviour.

“I know we take sport incredibly serious these days but how seriously does Serena Williams take herself sometimes,” she said.

“I mean that is just disgraceful. The comment about having a daughter, women around the world would have cringed at that and will have a look at what she had to say afterwards.

“This is a woman who in 2009 threatened to shove a ball down an umpire’s f-ing throat and was only fined $10,000 by her sport. This is a woman who, again, verbally threatened a linesman in 2014. People have not stood up to Serena Williams.”

The Australian’s Peter Lalor agreed with those sentiments, saying the outburst was hard to watch.

“It was her McEnroe moment,” he said on Offsiders. “It’s very disappointing to see a champion like that let themselves down. Nobody owes you an apology, you owe a lot of people an apology and when you calm down, I hope you realise that.

“It just felt uncomfortable because she really snapped, she really lost it. I felt sorry for her to some degree, but she doubled down later, and she really does owe her opponent an apology. It was poor form.”

On Channel 9’s Sports Sunday, Richard Freedman also had something to say.

“The whole bringing in the motherhood thing, ‘I’ve got a daughter and I don’t want her to think I was cheating’, what about blowing up in front of a stand full of people and international television audience and going on like a two-bob watch, is that what you want your daughter to see,” he said.

“And I cannot get over the crowds cheering that sort of behaviour – what sort of morons are sitting in those stands? – and booing the poor girl who stood at the other end, first grand slam, totally intimidated and then booing her. That’s just unbelievable.”

Osaka made history as she is the first Japanese person to take home the title, and the first Japanese player to win a grand slam event. The 20-year-old is still undefeated in 2018.

But while the achievement was meant to be celebrated, instead what Osaka was faced with was being overshadowed by her much more senior opponent.

Osaka even apologised for winning the match, saying, “I know everyone was cheering for her, I’m sorry it had to end like this.”

Williams was seen comforting the champion and asked the crowd to stop booing.

Do you agree with the umpire’s decision? Or are you on Serena Williams' side instead? Let us know in the comments below.

Roger Federer's rare outburst as Novak Djokovic makes history

Novak Djokovic made tennis history on Monday, and for once it was the great Roger Federer on the receiving end of it.

The Serbian won the only ATP Masters title that had eluded him thus far in his glittering career, beating the Swiss favourite 6-4 6-4 at Cincinnati.

Djokovic is the first man to win all nine Masters tournaments since the concept was introduced in 1990.

“Thanks for letting me win here once,” Djokovic joked to Federer at the trophy presentation. “I didn’t play my best tennis today, but I managed.

“It’s been a rollercoaster week.”

As usual Federer was gracious in defeat, saying post-match: “Novak, he’s a great champion and this is what this should be about, this press conference. Not about me missing second-serve returns, it’s about him making history. That’s my opinion.”

However, Federer’s temper flared during the match and he was handed a code violation for a rare outburst of obscenity. His frustration continued to show as the Swiss superstar angrily stared down a spectator behind him who yelled out just before he served.

In his victory, Djokovic managed to break one of Federer’s most remarkable streaks.

Federer has held serve in 100 consecutive games at the US tournament — which he has won seven times — but with the score locked at 3-3 in the opening set, Djokovic stopped Federer from making it 101.

Tennis world stunned by Roger Federer's surprise outburst

Asides from the championships, poise under pressure, unforgettable matches and that incredible backhand, if there’s one thing Roger Federer’s reign at the top of the tennis world has been characterised by, it’s his calm, gentlemanly behaviour. But a recent on-court outburst in a match against Juan Martin Del Potro had the Swiss tennis ace looking anything but the Federer of old.

The two faced off in a tense decider at the Indian Wells Masters in California on Monday, where raucous fans started to get on both player’s nerves.

Del Potro was victorious 6-4 6-7 (8-10) 7-6 (7-2), ending Federer’s unbeaten start to 2018, but it was the behaviour of the crowd that made headlines with fans audibly yelling out between serves, hoping to put the Argentinian off.

The World No 8 quickly lost his nerve at the yelling fans and remonstrated chair umpire Fergus Murphy for not doing enough to bring them into line.

“The people are screaming when I miss a first serve!” a filthy Del Potro yelled.

And it wasn’t long before Federer started to lose his cool.

2nd set 7-6 Roger! #BNPPO18
Keep going! Q&A outburst during fierce euthanasia debate

Debates don’t come much more contentious than the euthanasia one, and the topic was front and centre during last night’s episode of Q&A where a senior couple stole the show with a passionate outburst directed at members the panel.

A 90-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife asked the panel why politician were struggling to come to an agreement on legalising the process of euthanasia.

The man, called Ron, said, “We have decided that we will not go in to any kind of aged care facility. And if the time comes where we can’t take care of ourselves, we will look for some form of euthanasia. We have told our children about our wishes.

“They have, albeit reluctantly… to our wishes.”

Anti-euthanasia advocate and Professor of Bioethics at Sydney’s Notre Dame University Margaret Sommerville countered Ron’s argument, calling it a, “very bad idea”.

Professor Sommerville said, “I actually believe one person intentionally killing another person is wrong. But not everybody agrees with that. Some people think it can be justified in some cases. But even if you think that, I would argue to you the risks and harms of legalising and particularly legalising doctors being able to take the lives of their patients inflicting death intentionally is so dangerous that we shouldn’t allow it.”

But the woman Ron sat with took issue with the use of the word “killing”.

She said, “Right now we’re in good health. We do not intend to take our own life until we need to. And it’s not about killing anyone. We will be doing it ourselves. I’m not asking Ron to kill me. I will do it myself. And Ron will do it himself. I don’t know what you’re on about, darling, about killing That is definitely the wrong word to be using.”

The woman ultimately concluded, “Bulls***. Tell it as it is.”

Why would you want to interfere with our wishes to access euthanasia? Angry outbursts increase risk of heart attacks

An Australian study has found that the risk of heart attack is more than eight times higher in the two hours after an angry outburst.

The lead author of the study, Dr Thomas Buckley from the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital, said the research, which examined how emotional triggers put people at risk, found family arguments, road rage and work, were common factors.

“This research confirms that there truly is a risk between high level anger, that acute emotional response, and heightened risk of having a heart attack,” Dr Buckley said.

For the study they used a scale of one to seven and found anger ranked at level five or higher was dangerous: clenched-fist rage rather than annoyance or irritation.

People were still at risk for about two hours after the outburst, Dr Buckley said.

“We know that anger can induce physical symptoms such as increased heart rate and increased blood pressure,” he said

“But we also know from laboratory-based studies that anger also induces inflammatory changes in the body and blood changes that are associated with clotting, coagulation changes. And so those changes are likely to take a while to reverse.”

Most heart attacks related to anger in the study were caused by arguments with family or others. Fury from driving and work were also factors.

Dr Buckley's research examined the cases of hundreds of people admitted to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

“In that sample, 2.2 per cent had high-level anger,” he said.

“If we extrapolate across the number of heart attacks that occur in Australia per year, that would equate to about 1,100 individuals having anger-triggered attacks.”

But for those prone to rage, there is advice to help minimise health risks.

“We found that a lot of the anger episodes were related to interpersonal relationships or communication breakdown with other individuals, and if that's occurring on a regular basis, perhaps in a work setting, etcetera, then perhaps learning assertiveness skills would be a useful tool to help alleviate anger coming to that level where you become more at risk,” Dr Buckley said.

He also recommended people be aware of their anger triggers and try to control their thinking in emotional situations.

Related links:

This 115-year-old woman says raw eggs and no men are the secrets to her long life

5 signs you need more sleep

4 fitness trends to try this year
