Olivia Newton-John's daughter reveals special plans to honour mother's legacy

<p>Olivia Newton-John's daughter Chloe Lattanzi has revealed that she will be returning Down Under later this year to honour her mother's legacy. </p> <p>Chloe took to Instagram on Thursday to announce that she will be taking part in Olivia's Walk for Wellness in Melbourne on October 6.</p> <p>"Hi everyone! I am so excited to be coming to Melbourne once again to keep my momma’s legacy alive," she wrote in the caption, before inviting her followers to join her on October 6 in Melbourne's scenic Alexandra Gardens.</p> <p>She added that it "will be an amazing day of raising funds to support people on their cancer journey. Bondi cop receives special valour award for "exceptional bravery"

<p>The police officer who stopped the Bondi massacre has been honoured with a valour award at a police induction ceremony.</p> <p>Inspector Amy Scott fatally shot Joel Cauchi in the middle of his terrifying rampage through the Bondi Junction Westfield shopping centre, which resulted in the deaths of six people. </p> <p>On Friday, ten weeks on from the mass stabbing, NSW Premier Chriss Minns announced the officer would receive a Commissioner’s Valour Award “for displaying exceptional bravery in a life-threatening situation” at a police graduation ceremony. </p> <p>“She has been rightly labelled a hero,” he said. “She was calm, decisive, and as a result she saved many lives.”</p> <p>“She gives us all an example of what we ask of our police, many of whom are young, to walk into terrible situations as an ordinary part of their job.”</p> <p>The special award is a commendation for officers who display exceptional bravery in life-threatening situations, and is reserved for the most decorated officers.</p> <p>Inspector Scott was the first officer on scene on April 13th, confronting the 40-year-old Cauchi alone before shooting him dead with a bullet to the chest.</p> <p>While waiting for back-up officers to arrive, Scott performed CPR on Cauchi and some of his victims. </p> <p>The award for Ms Scott was part of a larger ceremony to welcome 169 new probationary constables into the NSW Police at the Goulburn Police Academy.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images </em></p>

Steve Price fires up over Dan Andrews' special honour

<p>Steve Price has sparked a bitter row on-air with his co-hosts of <em>The Project</em>, as he spoke out against former premier Dan Andrews being named on the King’s Honours list this year.</p> <p>Andrews, the former premier of Victoria who saw the state through the Covid pandemic, has been recognised on the prestigious list for his “eminent service to the people and parliament of Victoria, to public health, to policy and regulatory reform, and to infrastructure development”.</p> <p>After the announcement of Andrews' upcoming recognition, Price let loose on <em>The Project </em>as he condemned the former premier. </p> <p>“It’s got to be some sort of sick joke,” he said as he began his rant.</p> <p>“Who would expect Daniel Andrews would get the highest honour that you can possibly get from the King? It’s the equivalent of a Knighthood! This is a bloke who locked Victoria up longer than anywhere else in the word. And we give him an award? I mean it is pathetic!”</p> <p>“I have never heard people today so angry about something like this. Daniel Andrews should be run out of the State, not given an award. It’s pathetic!”</p> <p>As co-host Waleed Aly began to share his own thoughts on the matter, Price butted in to ask, “You’re not going to defend Andrews are you?”</p> <p>“Will you let me say something?” replied Aly awkwardly, as Price nodded his head.</p> <p>“Premiers usually get these awards, but they don’t usually get them this quickly,” continued Aly.</p> <p>“And the weird thing about this is that it isn’t for services to the State, it’s for services to health. And that makes it about the pandemic disproportionately. If this was happening in a few years, I don’t think we’d be having this conversation.”</p> <p>Despite Price's claims that many were angry with the decision to award Andrews with the honour, it turns out most of the outrage was directed towards Price himself as many condemned his "embarrassing" rant. </p> <p>“What criteria is <em>The Project</em> applying to Steve Prices opinion? The short man is a self serving blowhard that has no credible platform for his opinions. "What an honour": Kevin Costner pays tribute to fallen Yellowstone costar

<p>Kevin Costner has paid tribute to his <em>Yellowstone</em> costar Dabney Coleman, who has passed away at the age of 92. </p> <p>Coleman, who played the role of  John Dutton, Sr. in the Paramount drama, died on Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, according to his daughter Quincy Coleman, who broke the news in a statement to <em>The Associated Press</em>.</p> <p>She said he "took his last earthly breath peacefully and exquisitely."</p> <p>“My father crafted his time here on earth with a curious mind, a generous heart, and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humour that tickled the funny bone of humanity. As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery,” she said.</p> <p>Yellowstone shared the news on Instagram with the message, "We're saddened by the passing of the Dabney Coleman, a legendary actor and member of the <em>Yellowstone</em> family."</p> <p>Kevin Costner stars as John Dutton, the son of Dabney's character on the show, paid tribute to the late actor as he shared a powerful flashback scene from the season 2 finale to his Instagram. </p> <p>Along with a photo from the moving TV moment, Costner wrote, "One of the most heart wrenching scenes I've been a part of. What an honor to have gotten to work with Dabney Coleman. May he rest in peace."</p> <p>Fans left thoughtful comments about Dabney's performance as John Dutton, Sr. on the show, with one person writing, "Most touching scene of the whole show when he played that part! Jock Zonfrillo honoured one year after passing

<p>Jock Zonfrillo has been remembered by his wife, Lauren Fried, and friend, Jimmy Barnes, a year after the MasterChef judge's tragic death. </p> <p>Fried organised a moving piper memorial for her late husband, which friends and family attended. </p> <p>His wife took to Instagram to share a montage of images from their life together with the caption: "One year. We watched the sunrise today in true Scottish style - wind, pouring rain, and Jock's beloved bagpipes as our soundtrack."</p> <p>"A day for us to try to accept that he's not coming home, that this is forever, that we were lucky he was ours," she added. </p> <p>"Forever their Papa and Dad. "I've got goosebumps": Samantha Murphy honoured by touching act

<p>Samantha Murphy was last seen leaving her East Ballarat home to go for her usual morning run on February 4, a run that she never got to complete. </p> <p>Her disappearance gripped the nation for the past month, with local volunteers, <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/new-development-in-search-for-samantha-murphy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">specialist forces</a> and detectives all working together to try and figure out just what happened to the Ballarat mum. </p> <p>Now, Victoria Police allege that she was <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/new-details-emerge-in-samantha-murphy-murder-charge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">murdered</a> by 22-year-old Patrick Orren Stephenson, a tradie and the son of former AFL player Orren Stephenson, who was arrested last Wednesday. </p> <p>On Friday, Felicity Ryan put a call out on social media to see if anyone was interested in taking part in a community run to honour Murphy and complete the run she didn't get to finish. </p> <p>The post was met with overwhelming support, with Ryan telling 7NEWS: “I arrived and there was a handful of people... then the cars just started piling in."</p> <p>The group stood in silence for a minute in honour of Murphy's memory before heading off on a 7km run around Ocean Grove at 5.30am on Sunday.</p> <p>“I’ve got goosebumps talking about it now, it was the most heartfelt morning you could imagine ... there was lots of hugging ... there were lots of tears,” Ryan said.</p> <p>Ryan said that she hopes the run can become an annual event on February 4 or the long weekend. </p> <p>Detectives are currently doing everything they can to try and find Murphy's body, but Stephenson has so far refused to cooperate with police. </p> <p>He is due to return to court for a committal mention on August 8. </p> <p><em>Images: ABC News/ Victoria Police</em></p>

"A moving time": Hunter Valley bus crash victims honoured at AFLW grand final

<p>Avid footy fans Nadene and Kyah McBride were among the ten wedding guests killed in the <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/more-than-we-can-bear-hunter-valley-bus-crash-victims-identified" target="_blank" rel="noopener">horror bus crash</a> on the June long weekend.</p> <p>They are survived by grieving dad and husband, Graham McBride, who was also on the bus at the time of the crash, but only suffered neck and arm injuries. </p> <p>On Sunday, their lives and love for the sport have been honoured during the during the AFLW grand final between North Melbourne and Brisbane. </p> <p>“We thank all of those involved in community football for their tireless efforts in making our game the best it can be,” the game's MC and Seven commentator Nat Edwards said as they brought out the cup. </p> <p>Nadene, who was the founder and coach of the Singleton Roosterettes, has been named an official AFLW community hero. </p> <p>Her daughter Kyah was a star player in the team, and was also part of the Sydney Swans AFL women's development squad.</p> <p>Graham joined the guard of honour as his wife and daughter were acknowledged. </p> <p>He paid a touching tribute to his loved ones before the game. </p> <p>"Nadene has done a lot for football so to get their recognition back hits home," a teary-eyed Graham told <em>Nine News</em>.</p> <p>"Everyone enjoyed being around the girls, they made you smile," he added. </p> <p>In another interview with 7News he told the publication:  “I think that cup will be full of happy tears and sad tears. It’ll be a proud moment." </p> <p>”(Nadene) bled Sherrin in her veins. Footy was everything to her.</p> <p>”I’m going to do it for my girls ... I bloody love them and they love their football.”</p> <p>Just months prior to the tragic accident, Nadene and Kyah celebrated their teams win. </p> <p>“For Singleton AFC when we first started, we were actually not very good,” Nadene said in a Ladbrokes video that resurfaced following the crash. </p> <p>“One of our biggest deficits was about 263-to-nil I’m pretty sure. We only kicked two goals for that whole season, and I kicked them both and I was playing centre halfback.</p> <p>“We’ve come a massive way since then and in 2020, miraculously and through a lot of hard work, we actually took out the premiership.</p> <p>“We beat a team we definitely shouldn’t have beaten on the day and we did.”</p> <p>Bus driver Brett Andrew Button was <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/52-new-charges-levelled-at-hunter-valley-bus-driver" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> over the crash and remains before court. </p> <p><em>Images: Getty/ Nine</em></p>

"It's about time": Cathy Freeman receives major honour

<p>Cathy Freeman is set to be honoured by Sydney's Accor Stadium, where she won the gold medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympics 23 years ago. </p> <p>The Olympic legend will have a grandstand named after her at the stadium, with the NSW government announcing on Friday that the eastern grandstand of Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park will be known as the Cathy Freeman Stand.</p> <p>It's the same venue Freeman lit the flame to kick off the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and went on to win the 400m gold medal in what is one of Australia's most iconic sporting moments.</p> <p>The moment brought 112,524 spectators inside the stadium to their feet over two decades ago, while more than 8 million fans watched the event from the around country. </p> <p>"I am deeply honoured and humbled by this recognition," Freeman, a proud Kuku Yalanji and Birri Gubba woman, said on Friday.</p> <p>"This stadium and Sydney Olympic Park hold a truly special place in my heart and that will never change."</p> <p>"I hope that my story continues to inspire generations of girls and boys to chase their own dreams in sport and life."</p> <p>"Like the rest of Australia, I cheered on the Matildas during the FIFA Women's World Cup and I can't wait to see future generations of Australian female athletes make their mark."</p> <p>During a press conference to unveil the grandstand, NSW premier Chris Minns recognised that Freeman is the first woman to have a major grandstand named after her in NSW.</p> <p>He said, "It's about time we name a grandstand in NSW after a woman, and I can't think of a better athlete than Cathy Freeman."</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Airport renamed in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth

<p>An airport has been given the seal of approval to be rebranded in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth. </p> <p>The airport in the seaside town of Le Touquet in France was given the go ahead for the renaming by King Charles on Monday, as the entire royal family shared a particular fondness for the town. </p> <p>The renaming of the airport is one of the first places to get approval following Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8th last year.</p> <p>Although there is no official date announced for when the rebrand will take place, Touquet-Paris-Plage airport will become Elizabeth II Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport.</p> <p>"The international airport of Le Touquet Paris-Plage is about to undergo a historic transformation by taking on the name 'Elizabeth II International Airport of Le Touquet Paris-Plage'," the town hall said in a statement.</p> <p>"This is a tribute to a great Queen and her uncle who had a fondness for France, as well as a recognition of the 'most British of French resorts'," it added.</p> <p>While honouring the late monarch in the name, the rebranding also acknowledges King Edward VIII, who held a love for the country before he abdicated the throne. </p> <p>Edward VIII, Queen Elizabeth's uncle, frequented the resort to enjoy horse riding and sand yachting, sometimes accompanied by his niece when she was not yet Queen.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images / Google Maps </em></p>

"With Jock in our hearts": Channel 10's big MasterChef announcement

Veteran honoured following Kokoda Track death

<p>Paul ‘Dusty’ Miller, veteran and beloved father of five, has passed away of a suspected heart attack while walking the Kokoka Track. </p> <p>Paul, who had joined the Australian Army in 1991 and experienced four deployments, had been trekking as part of a fundraising effort by fellow veterans and first responders with the support group Operation Unity SA. </p> <p>Paul was on the second day of the challenging hike with his 17-year-old son, Aaron, when the tragedy occurred. His partner of 23 years, Amanda, confirmed the devastating news. </p> <p>“Paul wore many hats - a Father of 5, Partner, Son, Brother, Uncle, mate, Veteran, an even (46th class), sports fan, and a passionate advocate for veterans,” she wrote on Facebook. </p> <p>“As many of you will know, Paul and Aaron went to Kokoda together last week. Unfortunately on the second day, Paul had what is believed to be a heart attack. Despite all efforts of assistance and of CPR, Paul was airlifted out and it has been confirmed that he had passed away on arrival at the hospital.</p> <p>She went on to offer thanks for the efforts to revive Paul, and for the safe return of their son, Aaron, before noting that “in true Dusty style, he went out with a bang - doing something that he has always wanted to do … Kokoda.”</p> <p>Meanwhile, Paul’s daughter Sarah shared her own emotional tribute to social media, writing that her “whole word [was] falling apart.” </p> <p>“I still don’t want to believe it,” she said. “I still want to believe that Dad will call me and tell me everything will be okay.</p> <p>“My best friend, my hero, my safety blanket is gone, but I know his memories will live on forever and I will always be meeting people that loved and knew him.”</p> <p>The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade released a statement of their own to confirm the news, sharing that they were “providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Papua New Guinea. We send our deepest condolences to the family.”</p> <p>When Operation Unity SA shared the news of Paul’s passing - and Amanda’s original post - the late veteran was met with an outpouring of love, with condolences flowing for his family memories, and his surviving legacy. </p> <p>“He was a colleague, a mate and brother to many. Dusty was always there for others. I will miss my mate and brother. Till we meet again in Valhalla big man,” wrote one friend. “Lest we forget.”</p> <p>“RIP Ole mate glad [I] had the opportunity to know you and your caring nature,” wrote another. “Thanks for being a part of our lives you will be sorely missed by all mate.” </p> <p>“All of our love and condolences to Paul's family. Paul was a true champion and a gentleman, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving others, again, for which there truly is no honour great enough,” shared Diving Veterans &amp; First Responders Program.</p> <p>And as another friend said, everyone would be “sending love and thoughts to your whole family and everyone Paul touched during his life. Loyal service dog's emotional final flight

<p>A service dog has been honoured on her final flight after being diagnosed with an untreatable cancer. </p> <p>German Shepherd Kaya was trained to support veterans suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and was in the care of handler Cole Lyle.</p> <p>After years of loyal service to Cole, Kaya was diagnosed with terminal cancer and recently boarded a South West Airlines flight in the US to live out her final days at home by Cole's side. </p> <p>Kaya received the very best treatment on the flight, and was honoured by the pilot and her fellow passengers in a heart-warming moment that has since gone viral online. </p> <p>"We have a special guest on today's flight," the pilot said. "Kays is a German Shepherd service dog who has been with her handler, Cole, since 2014. Throughout her career, Kaya flew with us over 250 times to help establish the PAWS Act which united Veterans with service dogs."</p> <p>"We are so grateful to be a part of her legacy, and we thank her and her owner, Cole, for their many years of service."</p> <p>The comments were flooded with praise for the canine, with one person writing, "Bawling my eyes out. "Ready for change": Taryn Brumfitt honoured as Australian of the Year

<p>2023’s Australian of the year has been announced, and the honour has gone to writer, director, mother of four, and body image activist Taryn Brumfitt. </p> <p>The award ceremony was held on January 26 in Canberra, with a host of familiar faces in attendance, including Australia’s own prime minister Anthony Albanese. </p> <p>South Australian Taryn received the award for her work in helping people everywhere learn to love their bodies. She rose to prominence in 2013 after a before-and-after photo she shared to Facebook went viral. The post highlighted how her body had changed since giving up her strict bodybuilding regime. </p> <p>As she told the ABC, “my ‘after’ is as I am now, cellulite, stretch marks, folds, rolls, all the things.”</p> <p>Taryn used the trajectory of the viral post to launch her body image campaign, has since produced and released three documentaries, including one titled <em>Embrace </em>which focused on Taryn’s path to body acceptance and the struggle of body loathing.</p> <p>"We weren't born into the world hating our bodies,” the 45-year-old said in her speech on Thursday, “this is something the world has taught us.</p> <p>“Body shaming is a universal problem and we have been bullied and shamed into thinking our bodies are the problem.”</p> <p>To combat this issue, Taryn founded the Body Image Movement (BIM) in 2012. The BIM is based in Taryn’s hometown of Adelaide, and declares itself to be an “international mission to help people embrace their bodies.”</p> <p>The organisation calls on the likes of educational resources, documentaries, speeches, and books to promote positive body image and to create content that is engaging for people of all ages.</p> <p>In her acceptance speech, Taryn stressed the importance of targeting the issue of negative body image in children, calling on adults to step up and help, and the government to tackle “a paediatric health emergency.”</p> <p>“What if instead of spending our days consumed by hating our bodies, we could invest our time together to solve these challenges?” She asked of her listeners, and of Australia, “and what if instead of spending their precious time and energy at war with their bodies our young people were free to become the leaders, big thinkers and game changers the world needs more of right now?</p> <p>“It is not our bodies that need to change, it is our perspective. Every adult is a role model to a child and I'm not here to shame you or make you feel bad, I'm here to ask you to shift the way you think.”</p> <p>The 45-year-old went on to share her hope for Australia’s future generations, and what it would mean for Australians - and people from all around the world - to embrace their bodies, and to learn to love themselves.</p> <p>“If we can embrace that perspective now while we are capable, breathing and able, and have the gratitude for our bodies we can all access a more joyous, rich and abundant life.</p> <p>"There is a lot of work to do and it starts early and it starts with us being role models for our kids by creating empowering environments where they can thrive. Lisa Marie Presley honoured in emotional Graceland memorial

<p>Over a thousand people gathered at the public memorial service in Graceland to remember the life of Lisa Marie Presley on Sunday.</p> <p>Friends and family members have shared their emotional tributes to the late star, as Lisa Marie Presley's eldest daughter was so overwhelmed with emotion that she had her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, read the touching eulogy on her behalf.</p> <p>“Thank you for being my mother in this life,” the letter began, “I’m eternally grateful".</p> <p>In the letter, she also recalled the sweet memories she had with her late mother while growing up, and revealed that she and her husband have recently welcomed a daughter in private.</p> <p>“Thank you for showing me love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters,” the letter read in part.</p> <p>She then thanked her mother for all the traits she got from her.</p> <p>Her strength, heart, empathy, and courage are a few mentioned in the list.</p> <p>“I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart," she wrote.</p> <p>“I remember you giving me baths as a baby, driving me in my car seat listening to Aretha Franklin … taking me for ice cream after school in Florida,” she reminisced.</p> <p>“I remember you singing to me and my brother lullabies at night, and how you’d lay with us until we fell asleep,” she continued, sharing the sweet memories she also had with her late brother, Benjamin.</p> <p>“I remember how it felt be loved by the most loving mother I’ve ever known. How safe it felt to be in your arms: I remember that feeling as a child and I remember it two weeks ago on your couch".</p> <p>Priscilla Presley also shared a poem titled 'The Old Soul', written by one of her granddaughters.</p> <p>"I have no idea how to put my mother into words. Truth is there are too many,” the poem began.</p> <p>She referred to her mother as "an icon, a role model, and a superhero," and added the Lisa Marie “always knew she wouldn’t be here too long".</p> <p>The 14-year-old then went on to talk about her brother, Benjamin, who died by suicide in July 2020.</p> <p>“Could this be the angel who takes me home? She knew it was close to the end, survivors guilt some would say. But a broken heart was the doing of her death".</p> <p>Priscilla Presley then added her own message to her daughter: "Our hearts are broken. "With Honour They Served": Outpouring of emotion after shooting victims identified

<p dir="ltr">The two police officers who were executed at a Queensland rural property have been identified.</p> <p dir="ltr">Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were at a property in the western Darling Downs, about three hours west of Brisbane when they were shot on December 12.</p> <p dir="ltr">One of the neighbours, Alan Dare, 58, was also shot and killed in the attack which led to a manhunt for the alleged attackers.</p> <p dir="ltr">Police services around the country offered their condolences to the families of Constable Arnold and Constable McCrow after their heroic actions.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It is with a heavy heart we confirm the deaths of Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow,” Queensland Police wrote on Facebook.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Their lives were cut tragically short in the line of duty at Wieambilla yesterday.</p> <p dir="ltr">“With Honour They Served.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Police were at the rural property in response to a missing person, who was later identified as former school principal Nathaniel Train.</p> <p dir="ltr">There were grave concerns for Mr Train who disappeared from Dubbo in the NSW Central West in early December.</p> <p dir="ltr">Constable Arnold and Constable McCrow were joined by two other officers, Constable Keeley Brough and Constable Randall Kirk, both aged 28, at the property.</p> <p dir="ltr">A six-hour siege ensued, with the officers opening fire about 4.45 pm which saw Constable Arnold and Constable McCrow killed.</p> <p dir="ltr">Constable Kirk was also wounded while Constable Brough, who was only eight weeks into her new role, managed to escape and raise the alarm.</p> <p dir="ltr">The pair were finally joined by Special Operations police and helped them shoot dead three suspects, including brothers Nathaniel and Gareth Train, and a third female, after a six hour siege.</p> <p dir="ltr">Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll was heartbroken at describing what had happened, following the death of her colleagues.</p> <p dir="ltr">“This has been incredibly distressing and tragic for everyone, particularly family, officers involved, colleagues, the organisation and the community,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“As you would appreciate. It is an extremely emotional and challenging time for the Queensland Police Service. Losing one of our own has a profound impact on every single officer and their families. To lose two officers in one incident is absolutely devastating.</p> <p dir="ltr">“This event is the largest loss of police life we have suffered in a single incident in many years.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I want to pay tribute to the two other officers who attended....they bravely did what they could to save their colleagues in the most horrendous circumstances. Their bravery was beyond belief.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Thank you also to the specialist police and other first stand-of-responders who were involved in the dangerous confrontation for many hours last night. Matthew and Rachel were highly respected and much loved members of the Queensland Police Service.</p> <p dir="ltr">“They were both committed and courageous young people who had a passion for policing and for serving their community.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Both are under 30 years of age. Both had wonderful careers and lives ahead of them.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also offered his condolences to the fallen officers.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Terrible scenes in Wieambilla and a heartbreaking day for the families and friends of the Queensland Police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” he wrote on Twitter.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My condolences to all who are grieving tonight – Australia mourns with you.”</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Facebook</em></p>

Kiwi firefighters receive rare Aussie honour for heroic efforts

“We’ve been expecting you”: Daniel Craig receives royal honour

"We ought to honour a true Aussie hero": Petition to put Steve Irwin on Aussie currency

<p dir="ltr">In light of the change of monarchs, the long-term debate has res-parked regarding who should appear on our nation's currency.</p> <p dir="ltr">With the opportunity for a new face to appear, dedicated fans are petitioning for one specific Aussie icon to be branded.</p> <p dir="ltr">Vincent Wu and Kirby Miles have posted a petition online to the Australian Parliament House website, advocating for Steve Irwin to be featured on the $5 bill as opposed to King Charles III.</p> <p dir="ltr">The petition has noted that the conservationist and wildlife expert has made exceptional contributions to the country, which is necessary in order to be included on the banknote according to the Reserve Bank of Australia.</p> <p dir="ltr">"There is no one more vital to the Australian culture and identity than Steve Irwin. Steve is beloved by all and has become synonymous with the Australian values we hold so dearly," the petition read.</p> <p dir="ltr">"He epitomised the spirit of mateship; he deeply loved the Australian Wildlife, working hard towards conservation and education but perhaps most importantly he's just a good bloke.</p> <p dir="ltr">"This should not be seen as a step away from the crown, but as a step towards honouring a beloved Aussie hero. Six years ago a fan posted a petition to have the icon on the $100 bill. King Charles III honours mother in first engagement after mourning

<p dir="ltr">King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, have travelled to a Scottish town with a rich royal history to honour one of Queen Elizabeth II’s final wishes.</p> <p dir="ltr">In their first joint engagement since the end of the official mourning period, King Charles and Camilla travelled to Dunfermline, north of the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where the monarch made an emotional tribute to his mother.</p> <p dir="ltr">Just months before her death, the Queen personally chose to bestow city status on Dunfermline  - a wish the King honoured on Monday.</p> <p dir="ltr">During his speech at the Dunfermline City Chambers, King Charles said the historical moment would “gladden my dear mother’s heart, as it certainly gladdens mine”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My wife and I are immensely proud to be able to share this historic moment with you,” he said, adding that the Queen’s “deep love for Scotland was one of the foundations of her life”.</p> <p dir="ltr">"There could be no more fitting way to mark my beloved mother's extraordinary life of service than by granting this honour to a place made famous by its own long and distinguished history, and by the indispensable role it has played in the life of our country."</p> <p dir="ltr">Dunfermline was one of eight towns that were granted ‘city’ status by the Queen as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.</p> <p dir="ltr">The town was chosen for its community associations and royal history, including being the burial place of Robert the Bruce and holding the title of Scotland’s capital from the 11th century until 1437.</p> <p dir="ltr">The old silk mill in Dunfermline was also the source of silks used in the Queen’s gowns for her wedding and coronation.</p> <p dir="ltr">For Monday’s historic events, which saw hundreds of people lining the streets to see King Charles and Camilla, the King wore a kilt made from Old Stewart Tartan.</p> <p dir="ltr">After the formalities concluded, the ruling couple walked to Dunfermline Abbey to mark its 950th anniversary - an act the Queen engaged in 50 years ago for the abbey’s 900th anniversary.</p> <p dir="ltr">King Charles and Camilla then ended the day in Edinburgh, hosting a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to celebrate British South Asian communities.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-b706f602-7fff-a09c-2cf4-aa5f90300a13"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Getty Images</em></p>
