Go Floyd! Huge support for 9-year-old heading to World Dwarf Games

One multi-talented nine-year-old boy from Northern New South Wales is hard at work preparing to represent Australia at the World Dwarf Games.

Floyd Morley was born with a form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia - a condition considered to be one of the most common types of short-limbed dwarfism, said to affect approximately one in every 25,000 people.

His parents - mother Jade and father Ross - were initially concerned about the challenges their son may face in life, considering everything from potential health conditions to bullying.

“At the beginning, we were really worried about all his health concerns,” Jade explained to A Current Affair’s Leila McKinnon, “we were worried that he was going to get picked on, we worried that he was going to get bullied.”

However, all the pair truly wanted was for everyone to “celebrate him. He’s the best. He is the best kid.”

After too much time spent unable to catch anyone playing tag, or finishing behind his peers in school races, Floyd was left feeling “very frustrated” and “very lonely.”

“I didn’t really realise how much it affected him,” Jade admitted.

“I didn’t really feel that confident,” Floyd explained, “of playing soccer. I only just took to surfing and handball.”

And now, everyone will have the chance to see that Floyd is the best at what he does, with the nine-year-old’s sights set on competing in Germany alongside his friends and teammates.

It was a convention for short-statured people that changed things, giving Floyd the opportunity he needed and deserved to find his confidence and joy in what he was doing.

"He comes running up to me and he has had this beam of light and he was like, 'Mum, I caught them in tag'," Jade said of that pivotal moment.

"No one was slowing down for him to catch them … then he participated in soccer and basketball and he was like, 'oh my God, I'm good at this'."

As Floyd’s pride for himself and what he could accomplish grew, and his connection to those who were like him, so did Jade’s - as she had said, “I just want him to be proud and to have that real soul about him that’s like ‘I am proud of who I am’” - with his mother also confessing that it had been a “beautiful experience.”

When asked what the upcoming World Dwarf Games meant to him, Floyd wasted no time in declaring that he “felt really proud of myself, I felt really great, I couldn’t wait to meet all these people that were just like me.”

The games - which take place every four years in Germany - are run by volunteers, and the Australian team rely on fundraising and donations for their financial assistance. Funds go towards training costs for the athletes, as well as travel to and from the games, and are vital for budding talents such as young Floyd.

Short Statured People of Australia set up a fundraiser for the 2023 competition, and their page has seen a flood of love and support for Floyd and his team, after Jade admitted that “we're looking for multiple sponsors or one really big sponsor. We've got shirts, we want to put sponsors' names on them."

“You deserve the world Floyd,” wrote one donor. “Keep shining your magic!”

“Go Floyd! And all the amazing guys and girls participating in the games,” said another. “What an inspiration you all are. I will be following these games all the way.”

“Go Team Australia! Can’t wait for My Sophia to join you in the future!!” said one proud supporter.

And as another put it, “way to go Floyd. You’re a true inspiration of your parents.”

Images: A Current Affair / Nine

Quaden Bayle’s family rejects $700,000 Disneyland trip

Just a week after hundreds of thousands of dollars was raised to send Quaden Bayles and his family on a trip to Disneyland, Quaden’s Aunty Mundanara Bayles have spoken exclusively to SBS NITV saying that they are declining the trip.

This is due to the fact that they want the funds to go to the charities who need it, which include Dwarfism Awareness Australia and Balunu Healing Foundation.

"What kid wouldn't want to go to Disneyland, especially if you have lived Quaden's life. To escape to anywhere that is fun that doesn't remind him of his day to day challenges," she said.

"But my sister said 'you know what, let's get back to the real issue'. This little fella has been bullied. How many suicides, black or white, in our society have happened due to bullying."

"We want the money to go to community organisations that really need it. They know what the money should be spent on, So as much as we want to go to Disneyland, I think our community would far off benefit from that."

The charities are earmarked for a specific reason, according to Quaden’s Aunty.

"We need to come together and work out how to make sure young people like Quaden don't have to deal with what they have been dealing with," Ms Bayles said.

"We've had seven kids at the Murri School in Brisbane, where I am on the board, take their lives in the last ten years."

American comedian Brad Williams set up the GoFundMe page on February 21st, and since then, it has raised over $AUD 700,000 thanks to twenty thousand donors around the globe.

The page was set up after a video of Quaden went viral that showed the aftermath of a bullying incident that happened at school.

As Quaden was born with Achondroplasia, which is the most common form of dwarfism, he has had to deal with constant health complications as well as being bullied since the age of three.

As the video went viral in Australia and overseas, many celebrities and NRL players have reached out to Quaden to do what they can to help. Despite the heightened media attention, Quaden’s mother Yarraka says he’s doing well.

“It’s a bit overwhelming but we are doing good considering. It’s pretty full on but we are strong enough to get through especially with all the mobs support and unconditional love," she told NITV News.

“Quaden is ok. He is spinning out a bit, we just have to protect our boy as best we can. We’ve got a good team around us now.”

Facts the world ignored: Quaden Bayles' real age

False claims against Quaden Bayles’ age have caused the internet to revolt against the young nine-year-old, as supporters rush to his defence and provide “proof” of his real age.

The young Australian boy who lives with a condition called achondroplasia dwarfism, captivated the world after his mother shared a heartbreaking video showing the impact of bullying and how it pushed her precious boy to have suicidal thoughts.

Yarraka Bayles, who has been an outspoken advocate for indigenous issues and dwarfism, shared the video of her son Quaden to her Facebook on Wednesday, after picking him up from school “in hysterics”.

The clip went viral quickly as it depicted a distraught nine-year-old in tears, saying he wanted “to die” due to the bullying he receives at school.

People across the world, including celebrities like Hugh Jackman, rushed to his aid to offer immense support for Quaden.

A GoFundMe page to send Quaden to Disneyland has raised over $US466,512 ($A706,306).

It was stated any remaining funds after covering the cost of Quaden's flights, hotel, tickets and food would be donated to charity.

However, just hours after the video was uploaded and reached people across the world, a rumour depicting Quaden as a liar was set alight and caught on like wildfire.

The false claims seem to have originated from a post on Facebook which went on to circulate on Twitter and Instagram claiming the boy’s plight was a scam.

“Just so you know he scammed everybody … he’s 18, has plenty of money and yeah everyone fell for it,” the person wrote.

The “proof” provided by the Facebook user offered up included posts from his supposed 18th birthday.

People rushed to his defence, but the post could not be stopped even when Quaden’s mother took to Facebook to share a post by a woman who said she had “known Quaden since before this s**t blew up”.

“Ima (sic) say this once and that’s that. I’ve know about Quaden since before this s**t blew up. Yes, he’s 9! Dwarfism is not a joke, is he a model or actor?

“ … so are a lot of kids … That doesn’t mean s**t!”

Numerous social media users have also jumped to the boy’s defence, and shamed the people spreading rumour about Quaden, saying there is plenty of “proof” against it.

Interestingly enough, the viral footage of Quaden is not the first the world has seen of him. For many years, the nine-year-old has appeared on news programs and TV documentaries showcasing his family and the way they live.

A video from 2015 shows a four-year-old Quaden appearing with his mum on Studio 10 to raise awareness for dwarfism.

It is so weird and wrong to even need to prove this but for anyone who still believes the ridiculous conspiracy theory Quaden Bayles is an adult, here he is on @Studio10au in 2015, aged four. During the show he is once again described as a four-year-old boy.

Despite rumours showing him as an 18-year-old posing at his alleged birthday party, closer looks at the photographs shows it was snapped of him at a birthday party of a friend named Garlen.

A printed-out photo of Quaden posing with a group of older boys has the words, “Garlen’s 18th birthday” written underneath it.

Those who doubted the youngster also took a hit at his online presence and the fact he had a talent profile made for him that lists him as an actor, extra, model and influencer.

Though some have said his past experiences in these fields prove he is older than he says, his profile appears to prove the exact opposite.

In his biography on the website, it states he is eight years old, though it is unclear when this was last updated.

Another form of “proof” people gave to paint Quaden as a person lying about his age is a photograph showing Ms Bayles and her son each holding a glass of what looks to be wine, but turns out is Appletiser– a sparkling apple juice.

If you need Lifeline support, phone the 24/7 service on 13 11 14.

Ukrainian dwarf abandoned by adoptive parents denies claims she’s a “sociopath”

The Ukranian dwarf orphan who was abandoned by her American adoptive parents who accused the dwarf of being an adult pretending to be a child has broken her silence in her first televised interview.

Six years ago, in 2013, adoptive parents Kristine and Michael Barnett left Indiana for Canada with their other children and left Natalia Grace Barnett behind, which at the time, Natalia says she was nine.

The Barnett family had adopted Natalia three years earlier in 2010 hastily as they were under the impression that she was a six-year-old orphan.

However, Natalia’s former adoptive parents became convinced that after adopting her, she was actually 22 and was a sociopathic adult who tried to kill members of their family.

“Natalia would do things like place clear thumb tacks on the stairs face up so that when we would walk up the stairs, we would be stepping on thumb tacks to pain and injure ourselves,” Kristine said.

However, Natalia has refuted the claims and has spoken to Dr Phil about the accusations, maintaining that she is a child.

“It's not true at all. I just want people to hear my side,” Natalia said.

Natalia is joined by her new adoptive mother known as Cynthia Mans, who insists that a bone scan that Natalia underwent after she was abandoned proves she is the age she says she is.

However, when the Barnett family ordered a bone scan for Natalia, the scans suggested that she had been born in 1989.

Cynthia says that despite the first allegations from the Barnett family, herself and her husband did not worry about bringing Natalia into their home.

“We're supposed to help. Me and my husband adopted these kids,” she said to Dr Phil.

“It's like, who would do it if you don't?”

The Barnett family has said that the allegations against them for child neglect have been “devastating”.
