“Miracle”: 1-year-old baby survives two days beside highway during hurricane

A one-year-old baby has been found alive on the side of a highway after surviving two days of dangerous hurricane conditions between the Texas and Louisiana border in the US.

A truck driver spotted the one-year-old on a major highway, just a few kilometres where the boy's four-year-old brother was tragically found dead in a lake.

The one-year-old had to survive stormy weather as Hurricane Beryl inundated the area with heavy rain and high winds, but was relatively unscathed when he was found.

The truck driver recalled the moment he found the child to local news station KPLC, saying, "There was a little boy sitting down in the embankment there."

"As I approached him, he smiled at me and then he started crying and walked toward me. Once he walked toward me, I grabbed his hand and he stopped crying at that point."

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary “Stitch” Guillory said the baby had a few insect bites, but otherwise seemed well.

“This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway,” Guillory said while becoming emotional.

“Thank God that trucker seen him. When you look at the video, here he was, you know, crawling toward the highway."

“We look at this one-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive.”

The children’s mother, 25-year-old Aaliyah Jack of Lake Charles, has been charged with failing to report a missing child, while the child's grandmother is fighting for custody of the infant.

"Beyond devastated": Four-month-old baby dies after family outing

A four-month-old baby girl has died after being exposed to extreme heat during a July 4 outing with her family.

Weather records show that temperatures in the region soared to 120°F (48°C) last Friday.

The infant, identified as Tanna Rae Wroblewski, had been out on a boat on Lake Havasu with her parents when she suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness on Friday evening.

Her family performed CPR until first responders arrived and were able to rush her to a local medical centre.

She was then airlifted to Phoenix Children's hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her parents are struggling to come to terms with their daughter's death, with mum Tanya Wroblewski saying: “We are beyond devastated, heartbroken, there are just no words.”

“I will never understand why you had to leave us, you were just too perfect. I love you endlessly and I will look for you everywhere angel,” she shared in a Facebook post.

The medical examiner has yet to release the infant's official cause of death, but authorities suspect that her death was brought on by a heat-related illness according to local news outlet, News 12.

Tannas mum has also shared how difficult it was trying to explain her death to the infant's older sister.

“We don’t understand why you had to leave, how could she?” she wrote.

“She’s left out toys for you and made sure your favourites were all in the bassinet before bed the last couple nights. Woman seeks advice over family member’s list of “stupid” baby names

A woman has asked for advice after seeing her cousin’s list of potential baby names, with many of them being classed as “just stupid”.

The woman took to Reddit to explain how her cousin sent her baby name list to her family group chat, and no one has yet replied.

"This was all sent in a family group chat and no-one has replied yet. I feel bad because at least she has put some thought into these names, especially compared to how most of us were named. On the other hand, well, you saw the names," the woman posted on Reddit.

The names her cousin has shared and her logic behind them include:

Urf (Earth..because no matter where the child lives in life, it will always be on Earth. Can't fault the logic on that one – Elon Musk might take umbrage though.)

Seaeoh (CEO. Apparently names dictate destiny and this name will cosmically transform the child into a successful business magnate.)

Stamp (She was in a long distance relationship with the father for a while and they used to send each other letters with...stamps. Sounds like what a caveman character in a film would be called.)

Biotic (Connected to antibiotic. This will protect the child from disease. Antibiotic would be and I quote, 'Ridiculous because it would sound like 'Aunty' which would cultivate bullying because she would sound old.')

Ayeai (AI. In the future AI will take over and if it turns nasty it will go easy on her kid because they share a name.)

The woman explained that her cousin's logic for going with something very different for a name is "so many children nowadays have unique names that it will eventually become normal and people with 'standard' names will be the ones looking foolish."

She also added that her cousin's husband isn't "brave enough" to say anything about the names and hopes she will lose interest.

The people of Reddit had a lot to say about the choices, with one person commenting, “Those are all just terrible."

"I say this in the kindest way possible. She is delusional and I dare say, stupid. That poor future child deserves better," wrote another user.

Another suggested a normal name might actually be unique now and wrote, "Having a 'standard' name is what is unique now. How many kids are being named David and Lisa?"

Neighbour's "selfish" parking act sparks outrage

A resident in Leichhardt, Sydney, has taken matters into their own hands and decided to deal with the lack of parking by using orange traffic cones to reserve a space for themselves.

But frustrated neighbours were not pleased with this act, as parking on the the busy street is already difficult to find.

"It's been ongoing for months and doesn't look renovation-related," they wrote on social media.

It is understood that there are no parking restrictions on the street, meaning that residents can park there for as long as they like, if they're lucky enough to find a spot.

Social media users were quick to share their thoughts, with many suggesting to just move the "witches hats."

Others slammed the resident's parking act as "outrageous" and called him out for his "rude" and "selfish" behaviour.

"I've noticed that for months and wondered why people have been so observant of them," one person wrote.

"I guess if you're self-entitled and can get away with it," another added.

"Remove them when they aren't there, someone will park there," a third wrote.

While there were a few others who supported the act, and said that residents were entitled to reserve a parking spot, the Inner West Council has debunked it.

They said that reserving street parking using objects like traffic cones or other items and then leaving these objects unattended is prohibited.

"Unfortunately, this type of thing does happen in our local government area," a spokesperson told Yahoo.

The council has also urged anyone who sees someone using their belongings to obstruct public use of amenities to report it, with fines ranging from $330 to $660.

Image: Facebook

EV driver slammed for worst piece of parking you'll ever see

An Australian electric vehicle driver in Tasmania has been slammed online for their "unbelievable" parking.

In a picture shared on Facebook, the BYD was seen parked horizontally across two separate charging spaces in Howrah, Hobart.

Not only did they hog two charging spots, but their vehicle also parked over two nearby motorbike bays.

"Congratulations to this person yesterday who managed to connect to the charger on the right, while parking sideways across the charging bay on the left, AND a couple of bonus motorbike parking bays," a frustrated driver wrote online, after witnessing the scene.

This prompted an outpouring of frustration from both EV drivers and Australians who dislike the "electric vehicle community in general".

"They should put cameras on the charger and if they park like this it starts to drain the battery instead of charging it," one wrote.

"Give me a crack at parking, I'd do better — even with my cane," another commented.

"I officially give up trying to defend the EV community," a third added.

"I honestly have no words," wrote a fourth.

EV etiquette has been a popular topic of debate recently, with drivers frequently being photographed for their questionable parking skills.

Just a few months ago, a Tesla driver was mocked for their "entitled as" parking, after taking up two spots in a shopping centre to park their vehicle.

Image: Facebook

Woman's fake parking fines divides internet

Finding a parking ticket on your windscreen is the last thing you'd want to see after a day out - but last month dozens of drivers were greeted with fake fines made by one woman who wanted to spread "a little kindness".

Melbourne woman Karina went viral for her odd marketing tactic, where she put handmade fake fines onto cars, public phones and lamp posts across the city's southeast, in a bid to promote her photography business.

The "infringement" note read: "Notice to owners: We saw you pull into this car park and I wanted to tell you that you look absolutely beautiful today, your smile could light up a whole room...

"Just to make your day a little more special than you already are, I want to give you $30 towards my beach prints from my travels."

When asked why she did it, Karina told Yahoo News: "I decided to do it to make people's day by spreading a little kindness. It was a reminder that life is too short."

"They're going to think it's a fine but little do they know that it's actually some money towards a print for our store."

While there were a few that praised her "hustle" mentality, saying that they "love this idea" and thought it was "cute", others were less pleased.

"No this would make me have a panic attack," one wrote.

"I thought this was wholesome until I realised ya'll are just trying to sell stuff," another added.

Images: TikTok

Ranger's confrontation with mum sparks debate

An altercation between a woman and a parking inspector in Sydney's Double Bay has sparked debate online.

Video footage of the confrontation was shared on social media, and the pair can be seen arguing over a parking ticket the woman received on Cross St, where two-hour parking rules apply.

The woman claimed that she'd "just parked" her car and was paying for a ticket when the inspector arrived to fine her.

She started recording him as he was "rude and abrupt", with the video showing him writing up the fine and telling her that he will be adding a complaint to his notes.

"You're harassing me, I'll call the police," the ranger said to the woman, as she films him up close.

As he turns abruptly pointing a finger toward her, and telling her to leave he appears to hit the phone, and the woman accuses him of assault.

"You physically assaulted me. Wow. It's all on camera," she said to the ranger.

She also claimed that the ranger "pushed her away", and said that it was "terrifying".

The video posted online attracted mixed responses from locals, with some arguing that "there's more to the story" as the video didn't capture what happened before she started filming.

However, a few others called the ranger out for his "shocking" behaviour.

"The ranger has no right to assault anyone. And if it was when they were on the job, it’s a sackable offence, if not criminal," one said.

Another argued that the woman was also in the wrong for being "up in his face" as the ranger was "just doing his job".

"You can tell he didn't mean to knock the camera, and that she was up in his face," another added.

A spokesperson for Woollahra Council confirmed they were aware of the incident and "regrets any distress experienced during the issuing of a fine due to an illegally parked vehicle."

"We understand no one likes receiving a fine, but [we] ask members of the public to refrain from taking out their frustration on Council staff, either verbally or physically," they told Yahoo News.

Images: Facebook/ Yahoo

"I'm so sad": Woman declined entry into music venue because of her baby

A mother has shared her frustration after she was denied entry into a live music venue due to the fact that she had her baby with her.

Jasmine and her partner were excited to see one of their favourite artists, Angie McMahon, at Melbourne's iconic concert venue The Forum, and made the decision to bring their five-month-old baby with them.

The baby was strapped to the mum's chest in a carrier and was wearing headphones, but jasmine was soon confronted by venue staff that she was not allowed entry into the venue, and instead offered to return without their child for another night.

The singer herself later called in to the 3AW radio show, where Jasmine had recalled the incident, to say that she would not have minded having a baby in the audience.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 3AW Melbourne (@3aw693)

“I’m so sad. Heartwarming update for baby stabbed during Bondi attack

Six weeks on from the devastating Bondi Junction Westfield stabbing that claimed the lives of six people, the nine-month-old baby who was attacked is continuing her recovery.

Baby Harriet was at the shopping centre with her mother, Dr Ashlee Good, when Joel Cauchi began his crazed attack on shoppers.

One of Dr Good's final acts was to thrust Harriet into the arms of strangers begging them to "please help, help".

Dr Good, an osteopath, tragically died from her injuries but Harriet miraculously survived and was released from hospital on April 21st.

Since the attack, kind-hearted Australians have since donated $830,040 on a dedicated GoFundMe page to give Dr Good's partner, Dan, and little Harriet "the freedom to go forward into the future without financial burden or worry".

"Ash was a ray of sunshine and positivity in every aspect of her life and died a hero saving her little girl from the most unspeakable evil," GoFundMe organiser Steven Foxwell wrote.

The donations are still pouring in from friends and strangers alike, often accompanied by heartbreaking messages.

"Although I did not know Ashlee, I was deeply touched by her bravery and great maternal love, and my heart goes out to all of you at this difficult time," one person wrote.

"I'm so sorry for your horrific loss. I hope the money raised here gives you the freedom to go forward and continue living your lives in a way that would make Ash proud," a second added.

"As a mother of two, this really truly caused my heart to ache in a way I haven't felt for a long time," a third said.

"I wish for this little girl so much happiness and light in her future. I can't even imagine all the different ways the family are feeling right now."

Nicola Britton, the Regional Director for GoFundMe Australia, said that the fundraiser is currently the second-largest in Australia for 2024, trailing only behind another fundraiser focused on humanitarian relief for Gaza.

“Entitled as”: Tesla driver mocked for creative parking

A Tesla driver's parking skills has sparked an online debate after pictures of the vehicle parked across two parking spots was posted on Facebook.

The black Tesla Model Y was parked at the Orion Springfield shopping centre in Queensland, and most online commenters condemned the driver's actions.

“Of course, it’s a Tesla owner. Entitled as mentality,” one wrote.

“They should find somewhere else to charge it or go home," another commented.

However, some commenters pointed out that the charging station could be the problem, and with an increase in drivers choosing electric vehicles, it sparked a few questions on the accessibility of the charging stations across the country.

“Maybe that was the only way to reach the plug? EV owners should be allowed to fuel up just as we do," one commenter wrote.

“The one at fault … is the silver car parked in the charging spot not on charge, so I guess they [the Tesla owner] had to park like that to charge up," another said.

In another incident last April, another Tesla driver was criticised for parking their Model 3 – with an attached trailer – over the kerb next to the charging bay.

However, the photo also highlighted the accessibility issues as current charging stations for EV's do not accomodate to oversized vehicles, so drivers may have to come up with other ways to charge.

A spokesperson for Standards Australia said that a charger reform is currently being discussed by all relevant regulators.

"There's a lot of work going on right now as our vehicle fleet becomes more electric. This includes consideration of charging infrastructure, its placement, and matters of safety and amenity," the spokesperson told Drive.

"Standards Australia is working with governments, industry and the community to identify what standards are needed for charging infrastructure and how they can be embedded in our communities."

Image: Drive/ Facebook

Baby Reindeer's "real life stalker" breaks silence

The woman believed to be the inspiration for the stalker "Martha" in Richard Gadd's Netflix hit Baby Reindeer has denied the allegations that she stalked the show's creator.

The show depicts an aspiring comedian - Donny Dunn, played by Gadd himself - who meets a woman at a bar and she quickly develops an unhealthy obsession with him.

Fiona Harvey, 58, the person believed to be "real life Martha", spoke to Piers Morgan on his Uncensored YouTube show on Thursday and said that she was planning to take legal action against both Netflix and Gadd for the attention the semi-autobiographical show got her.

“You’re 100 per cent it’s not you?” Morgan asked.

"Yes,” she replied.

Harvey reportedly received death threats after internet sleuths tracked her down within hours of the show's premiere.

She also said that she only met a him a few times, and that the show's portrayal of events - including the one where they first met - were completely fictionalised.

“He didn’t offer me a cup of tea. No one gets anything free from the Hawley Arms,” she told Morgan, referencing the real-life pub Gadd worked at.

“He interrupted a conversation with another barman he said, ‘Oh, you’re Scottish,’ and basically commandeered the conversation.

“You know, I was talking to somebody. It’s pretty rich. So he seemed to be obsessed with me from that moment onwards.”

In the show, Gadd also claimed that he had received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, 106 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemail from the woman who Martha is based off, and Harvey denied this, although she did send him a few emails.

“There may have been a couple of emails exchanged. Just some jokey banter,” she said.

“I have no idea (where the other emails and communications came from). I think it’s probably made up himself.

“I don’t see how anyone could do 41,000 emails.”

When asked to put a number on the emails she had sent, she replied: “A handful, 10? Not 41,000”.

“Even if the email thing was true, the rest is not,” she added and said that “I wouldn’t be suing if there were 41,000 emails out there."

She also said that she never sexually assaulted him, contacted his parents or attacked his girlfriend and was never charged – let alone convicted – of any offence, another claim that the show made.

When asked by Morgan if she thought Gadd was “mentally unwell,” she replied "yes".

”I think he always was. Whether that rape was real or conceived in his mind. He's completely off his head,” she said.

“He’s crazy and wants to make this up," she added.

“My mind is made up – he is a lair”.

Morgan then asked her if she had a message for Gadd, and she went straight to the point: “Leave me alone please. Get a life. Get a proper job. I am horrified at what you’ve done”.

Image: Piers Morgan / Netflix

Woman fined after paid car park gets set up around her parked vehicle

Josephine Williams had been leaving her car in a gravel clearing at Westgate in Auckland, alongside other commuters to catch the bus into the city for months.

The New Zealand woman was left with a "nasty surprise" when she returned from work on Monday to find a NZ $85 ($77) fine sitting on her windshield.

"To my unfortunate surprise - and many others - I was greeted by an $85 parking ticket for a breach and a flyer from Wilson Parking saying paid parking had started that day," Williams told Stuff.

"But what breach exactly was made? How was I supposed to know paid parking started that day when there was nothing at all displayed anywhere in the car park?"

Williams claimed that the Wilson Parking car park had been set up around her already parked car, even providing dash cam footage that showed her pulling into the gravel clearing at 7.45am, with no paid parking signs or Wilson branding in sight.

By 6pm, a large red and white Wilson sign had been put up at the entrance, with "12 hours for $4" written on it.

"Wilson deliberately put their sign up sometime after 9am and then took it upon themselves to fine every single car that was already parked there from the morning," Williams said.

"$85 is a lot of money - it would have been two weeks' worth of grocery shopping for me," she added.

"I'm lucky that I know the law and my rights, but some other people might not. What about students or the elderly or people who don't know English well?"

She estimated that there was usually around 50 and 100 cars in the gravel clearing.

Wilson argued that the carpark was always there and they had just added more signage, but have since waived Williams' fine after she lodged a request to have it reviewed by Parking Enforcement Services.

Wilson Parking also said that they had started to set up the car park and installed a "clear signage" on April 22.

"It was not set up around parked cars on 29 April as suggested," a Wilson spokesperson said.

"Several payments were made by customers via the Parkmate app from 22 April proving that signage on the site was clear and effective," they said.

They added that on April 29 more signs were added to all entry points of the car park.

"In acknowledgment of the increased signage added on the 29th at the entry we've made the decision to refund all payments made until 30 April and waive any breach notices issued up to this date."

They also denied issuing any breach notices before the signs were put up.

"Payment options were available and signed from 22 April - but no infringement notices were issued prior to the 29th."

Images: Stuff
