Kate Ritchie unwraps hilarious Christmas secret about Bec Hewitt

In a festive bombshell that’s left the tinsel trembling, popular radio talkback host Kate Ritchie dropped a yuletide nugget on her Fitzy & Wippa radio show that had her co-hosts laughing harder than Santa after one too many eggnogs.

The former Home and Away star couldn’t resist spilling the beans about a certain co-star’s unconventional approach to Christmas decor. Spoiler: It’s as timeless as the love between Alf Stewart and his flaming galah.

The revelation came during a lively discussion about Christmas traditions. As the trio playfully debated who might blast carols all year long, Wippa quipped, “Yeah, they’re the ones who leave the tree up all year because they’re lazy.” Cue Kate’s awkward laugh – and the kind of body language that screams, I know something you don’t.

After much coaxing, Kate finally confessed: “I know someone who does that.” Her vague hints about the mystery person – “They’re not there a lot” and “They usually come home in summer” – only deepened the intrigue. Naturally, Fitzy and Wippa sprang into action, throwing out wild guesses faster than kids ripping open presents on Christmas morning.

“Chris Martin?” No.

“A Hemsworth?” Still no.

“Ray Meagher?” Are you serious?

Finally, under relentless pressure, Kate dropped the mic (or rather, the ornament): “I think Bec Hewitt did it a little bit.”

And there it was! The Christmas tree tea that would leave even Rudolph red in the face.

Turns out, Bec Hewitt – a former Home and Away actress herself and better half of tennis champ Lleyton – is no stranger to embracing an evergreen lifestyle. Back in 2016, she openly admitted in an interview that her family’s Christmas tree had been up for (wait for it)... eight years.

“I don’t know if this is a little bit sad but our Christmas tree has been up for eight years!” Bec confessed. The reason? An international jet-setting schedule that makes Santa’s one-night global trek look like a leisurely stroll. “We’ve been living overseas, and we fly in to Australia quite late. Because we fly in and it’s nearly Christmas time, and then we have to leave for the Australian Open in a hurry, so we just don’t get round to it; I’m busy packing.”

And who could blame her? Between juggling family life, Lleyton’s tennis coaching career, and perhaps a few rounds of “Where’s the mistletoe?”, the Hewitts were clearly just giving their tree a permanent residency.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Nova (@fitzywippakate)

So next time you’re dragging your feet about packing up the decorations, just remember: somewhere out there, Bec Hewitt’s Christmas tree is standing proud, a symbol of festive procrastination and boundless holiday cheer.

After all, why limit Christmas to one month when you can keep the magic alive all year round?

Images: Instagram

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt's son on track for Aussie Open

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt's little boy is growing up fast! Just a few months past his 15th birthday, Cruz Hewitt continued to demonstrate that he's well on his way to following in his famous father's illustrious footsteps.

In mid September, Cruz secured his inaugural professional win at the Darwin Tennis International, even though he was up against much older and more experienced competitors.

That important first pro win came on a Sunday in the first round of qualifiers at the Darwin Tennis International, a 3-6, 4-6, 10-5 thriller over 25-year-old Brian Tran. Cruz then followed that up with another impressive win, 6-3, 6(4)-7, 10-3 over 21-year-old Jerome Iaconi in the second round, before suffering a 3-6, 1-6 loss against 24-year-old Jesse Delaney in the third round of qualifiers.

Cruz was elated to share that his famous dad was overjoyed with his victory when he spoke to reporters, emphasising the significance of his win.

Behind the scenes, Cruz's mother, TV star Bec Hewitt, now aged 40, is more determined than ever to ensure that her family avoids the pitfalls of history repeating itself – as when Lleyton himself went through the trials of becoming an elite-level tennis player.

An insider exclusively shared with Woman's Day, "There was always this underlying feeling that Lleyton's parents, Glynn and Cherilyn, really pushed their boy to get the best out of himself, and it was rumoured at the time that it was their way or the highway when it came to his tennis."

As a result, Bec has spent years advocating for her more balanced parenting approach, steering Lleyton towards her gentler perspective on raising their children (Cruz has a big sister, Mia, who was born in November 2005, and a little sister, Ava, born in October 2010). Now Cruz is shaping up to be a more well-rounded individual compared to his highly-pressured dad, thanks to Bec's belief that life should not solely revolve around tennis.

Bec serves as a calming influence on Cruz, just as she does with their daughters Mia and Ava. Her aspiration for her son is to have him look up to players like Roger Federer, who epitomise true champions both on and off the court. What matters most to Bec is ensuring that Cruz's mental health is as robust as his tennis skills, and she is determined not to push him too hard in pursuit of success.

The talented young athlete has inherited more than just his 42-year-old father's formidable two-handed backhand. When asked about his most recent victory, Cruz confidently remarked to local media: "I'm pretty stoked about getting that win because I had to come from behind. I was fired up, to be honest… It's cool getting to go to different places like here in Darwin, and it's a lot of fun. But I came here to test myself at this level against some older players and see how I fare."

He playfully added, "I also get to miss school today because I won, so that's even better!"

With the entire tennis world closely observing Cruz's every move, the question now arises: Can he break one of his father's longest-standing records? An insider shared, "Lleyton, who these days balances family life with coaching and commentary commitments, first qualified for the 1997 Australian Open at the tender age of 15 years and 11 months, becoming the youngest in the tournament's history.

"He went on to win the 2001 US Open and the 2002 Wimbledon. There's no reason Cruz, who exudes more confidence than most kids his age on the circuit, can't achieve the same over the next few months."

The insider shared, "When Cruz was seven, Lleyton expressed hope that his son would make the main draw at 14. While Bec knows he was simply dreaming big for his son, she wants to shield her boy from excessive pressure and offer unwavering support, win or lose."

Images: Instagram

Bec Judd's son taken to hospital with mystery illness

Bec Judd's seven-year-old son, Tom, has been hospitalised due to an undisclosed medical condition, as the concerned mother shared on her Instagram account.

In the recent post, the 40-year-old WAG posted a heartwarming picture of Tom comfortably lying in a hospital bed. In the photo, Tom flashed a smile at the camera, clutching his teddy bear and savouring an ice cream treat. However, Bec did not reveal the specific reason for Tom's hospitalisation in her social media update.

With a hopeful tone, Bec wrote, "Onwards and upwards, Tom," and expressed gratitude to Nurse Becky Bell for her care and support during this challenging time.

Bec Judd, a mother of four, shares her children with her ex-AFL star husband, Chris Judd. Alongside her recent family concerns, Bec has also been actively involved in charitable endeavours. She disclosed her plans to contribute 25,000 meals to Food Bank Victoria, an organisation dedicated to addressing food insecurity. Bec's involvement extends beyond her vocal support, as she is using her design skills to create a unique spatula for fundraising purposes. The entirety of the proceeds from the spatula sales will be donated to Food Bank.

In Bec's own words, each spatula sold translates into an impressive "25 meals on the table", with the ambitious goal of providing "250,000 extra meals by Christmas". She encouraged her substantial following to support the cause by considering the spatula as a unique Christmas gift option. Not only will buyers acquire an original Bec Judd creation, but they will also make a significant contribution to their community.

This charitable campaign features other notable personalities, including New Zealand culinary expert Ben Shewry, radio and TV presenter Chrissie Swan, and Australian pastry chef Kirsten Tibballs.

In addition to her philanthropic efforts, Bec Judd has been making appearances on the celebrity edition of The Amazing Race, where she teams up with her sister, Kate Twigley. During a recent interview on KIIS FM's Jase and Lauren show, Bec recounted some of the show's more challenging moments, including an encounter with elephant dung.

"It was interesting; they really threw us into these challenges that were quite foul, like shovelling poo, and I was like, where are the gloves?" Bec shared. "You know, I worked at The Alfred Hospital; I have four kids, I've got a puppy. I'm used to vomit and poo and secretions, but we always had gloves and masks, so it was okay. But this is bare hands, and I was not happy about it."

In a recent trailer for the Ten reality show, Bec also revealed her germophobic tendencies, adding a layer of intrigue to her adventures on The Amazing Race.

Images: Instagram

Couple makes winning profit selling home to Lleyton and Bec Hewitt

A Queensland couple has made a hefty $550,000 after selling their Burleigh Heads home to tennis superstar Lleyton Hewitt and his wife Bec - having lived in the home for just five weeks.

Katie and Jeremy Langston bought ‘The Palms’ at auction in May 2021, paying $3.75 million for one of the state’s most photographed homes.

But, the couple put the four-bedroom mansion back on the market just months later for $4.3 million after realising they wanted to move back to Koala Park.

Within six days of the home hitting the market once again, marketing co-agents Conal Martin of Kingfisher Realty and Harcourts Coastal agent Ed Cherry had received eight offers.

“We only lived in it for about five weeks,” Mr Langston told realestate.com.au.

“We moved out before we put it on the market. “Healing from grief is an inside job”: Why Ashley Judd found and met with her abuser

Content warning: This article includes mentions of sexual assault, rape and child sexual abuse (CSA).

Ashley Judd has opened up about the conversation she had with the man who raped her more than two decades ago.

The Double Jeopardy star spoke about confronting the man who assaulted her in 1999 during an appearance on the podcast Healing With David Kessler, telling host David Kessler that they had a “restorative-justice conversation”.

“To make a long story short, we ended up in rocking chairs sitting by a creek together,” Judd said. “And I said, ‘I’m very interested in hearing the story you’ve carried all these years’. And we had a restorative-justice conversation about that.

"I wanted to share that story because there are many ways of healing from grief, and it's important to remind listeners that I didn't need anything from him and it was just gravy that he made his amends and expressed his deep remorse because healing from grief is an inside job."

The 54-year-old added that she didn’t need closure from the man, whose identity is still unknown, or “his cooperation” or “for him to make amends” to continue healing, and that she was just “very interested in hearing” his side of the story.

"Because I had the opportunity to do my trauma work, to do my grief work, to do my healing work, to have all these shifts in my own consciousness and to bond in these female coalition spaces with other survivors," Judd said.

Recalling the incident, Judd described it as “crazy-making” and “unconscionable”.

"I was very clear, my boundaries were intact. I was already an empowered, adult feminist woman," she recalled.

"And that this could happen under these circumstances was unconscionable, unforeseen, and yet I have had a restorative-justice process with this person out of how replete my soul is today."

Judd has publicly spoken about being a three-time rape survivor in the past and shared her story for the first time in her 2011 memoir, All That Is Bitter & Sweet, and again in an op-ed she wrote for Mic.com’s ‘Pass the Mic’ series.

"I am a survivor of sexual assault, rape and incest," she wrote at the time.

"The summer of 1984 was tough for me. I experienced two rapes by an adult and systematic molestation from another adult, who also had another man in the room watching … This January, I read three different things that freshly triggered an additional, very specific memory from age 15 – an attempted oral rape by yet another adult man."

If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse and need support, contact 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or visit their website, or contact BlueKnot on 1300 657 380.

Image: Getty Images

See inside Lleyton Hewitt’s coastal escape

Like thousands of other Aussies, Lleyton and Bec Hewitt made the migration from the country’s southern capitals to sunny Queensland - and it wasn’t long until they snapped up a new coastal home.

The former world number one made the move with his family last year, at the same time as he was due to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF).

“Hewitt’s induction celebrations were deferred to 2022 due to travel restrictions,” a statement from ITHF read.

Having finally received the prestigious award on Saturday (Eastern Time), the tennis legend and his family will be returning to their Gold Coast home they secured for a hefty $4.305 million in September last year.

The home, which had been sold just three months prior for $3.75 million, is in the heart of cosmopolitan Burleigh Heads and boasts plenty of luxe features.

Conal Martin, the listing agent for Kingfisher Realty Burleigh Heads who sold the home prior to the Hewitts purchasing it, describes it as having a Palm Springs coastal design with irrigated greenery, natural stone feature walls and an open plan that flows from inside to outside and sold it as a “place where you can escape the bustle of everyday life”.

“Spend your summer nights by the outdoor kitchen, BBQ and beer fridge, watching your family play in the pool through the custom infinity glass pool window or around the fire roasting marshmallows on those cosier winter nights,” the listing reads.

Inside, the home features timber flooring, high ceilings, a wine cellar, three ensuite bedrooms, and a media room or second living space with stunning hinterland views.

Though it doesn’t come with a tennis court, the home is just a short walk from the famed Burleigh Beach and the area’s buzzing restaurant and bar scene.

According to the ITHF, Hewitt will be the 34th Australian to be entered into the Hall of Fame, describing it as the “ultimate honour” in tennis.

“Induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame is tennis’ ultimate honour, representing the sum of a person’s accomplishments as being among the greatest and most impactful in sport’s history,” the statement read.

“Just 267 athletes and contributors from throughout tennis history have received this honour.”

In a speech during the ceremony, Hewitt said it was an “incredible honour” made all the more special by having his family and friends with him on the court in Newport, Rhode Island, where he won his first ATP grass court match 24 years ago.

“To think where it all began for me on junior tennis courts in the middle of nowhere in Adelaide in Australia, with no one watching, no TV cameras, and then to make the full tennis journey and actually now be coming into the Hall of Fame,” he said.

“For me, this is such a special place here in Newport.”

Images: Getty Images, realestate.com.au

Dan Andrews accused of "victim-blaming" in spat with Rebecca Judd

Victoria's premier Dan Andrews has been accused of "victim-blaming" by his political opponents, as he responded to an influencer's claim she feels "unsafe".

Social media influencer Rebecca Judd, who is married to AFL star Chris Judd, took to social media last week to say she felt "unsafe" due to a rise in crime in the Brighton area, where she lives in a $7.3 million mansion.

"So sick of the rapes, bashings and home invasions at the hands of gangs in Bayside," she wrote on Instagram last Thursday.

"The state government don't seem to care. We feel unsafe."

In response to her comments, Dan Andrews said that he was area of the rise in crime in the Melbourne suburb, with Victoria Police being utilised accordingly.

In a press conference on Sunday, he said, "I'm also obliged to point out, though. I think there are more than 70 additional police in the Bayside area."

"She might have missed this, others might have missed this, 502 additional sworn officers and 50 PSOs.

"Victoria Police being properly resourced."

Brighton MP James Newbury said the premier's comments were unacceptable, and said more should be done to curb the recent crimes.

"No woman should be dismissed or victim blamed because they're scared after a string of home invasions in their community," he said.

Andrews said the crime rate in the area did not reflect the influencer's concerns.

"I'm sorry she feels that way; the data will tell a different story," he said.

"But it is about personal feelings and your sense of safety, and I hope that knowing those things, or perhaps learning those things, puts her mind at ease."

"Hey, we're Aussies": Bec Maddern's classic response to leaked Djokovic footage

7News anchor Rebecca Maddern has spoken out about her leaked comments about Novak Djokovic with co-host Mike Amor.

The pair of news reporters were captured speaking candidly about the Serbian tennis champion's recent deportation from Australia over his vaccination status, with Rebecca calling Novak an "a**hole".

The footage of the seemingly off-air comments was leaked by an external Channel Seven staffer, with both reporters staying quiet about the blunder until now.

Speaking with Stellar magazine, Rebecca said her and Mike had been friends "long before" their news program together, and were simply exchanging casual banter between mates.

"I'm 100 percent sure that the exact same conversation was actually happening in a pub. And lounge rooms. And workplaces," she said.

"Whether you agree with what I was saying or not is actually irrelevant. Everybody was talking about this and so were we. My language was questionable, but hey, we're Aussies."

The expletive-ridden rant about Novak quickly went viral on social media, with many Australians feeling divided over Mike and Rebecca's views.

Rebecca hit back at critics that called her and Mike "unprofessional" and "biased", as she said the idea of impartial journalists was "antiquated".

"We are human beings and part of the same community as everybody else. Just because I have an opinion on a topic doesn’t mean I can’t present or write about a topic without bias. It’s called training.

"When I’m on air, I’m a professional and I don’t use that language. I’ll be presenting the news straighty-180 from now on."

Image credits: 7News / Channel Nine

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt sell Toorak mansion

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt’s Toorak mansion has sold less than a month after hitting the market.

Jellis Craig Stonnington listing agent Phillip French confirmed to the Herald Sun that a Toorak-based family bought the home, located at 34 Heyington Place, but he could not reveal the sale price. The house was listed for $15-16 million, and the Sun understands it sold for within that range.

Mr French said that the buyers had competed with parties from interstate and overseas, as well as local buyers from affluent suburbs like Hawthorn and Kew, to nab the house. He added that buyers were drawn by the living and entertaining spaces available in the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence, as well as the bedrooms, the pool, the 1800-bottle wine cellar, the 12-seat home theatre, the home gym, and the location.

“There are some very good buyers around at the moment, and there’s a little bit of a shortage of high-end properties [for sale]. [The property] was very well viewed online, but also there was quite good genuine interest in it,” Mr French said.

The sale comes less than a month after the couple purchased a $4.305 million home in the Gold Coast suburb of Burleigh Heads. While waiting to move into their new home, The Palms, the couple and their children were renting Burleigh Beach Bungalow. The owners said they were surprised that the Hewitts wanted to rent their property, telling the Gold Coast Bulletin, “They loved it as well, which was nice. You get worried as it’s your own house.”

The Hewitt’s new home, the Palms, is often described as “Queensland’s most photographed home”, and it last sold in May for $555,000 less than the famous couple paid for it.

The Hewitts bought the Toorak home in 2016 while it was under construction, paying $12.7 million for the property. They then worked with architect Christopher Doyle and builder Peter Johnston of Royale Construction to add some personal touches.

The home boasts ensuites for each of the five bedrooms and a six-car garage in addition to a home gym, pool, and home theatre. Other amenities include an in-built trampoline, basketball hoop, and astro turf with a Rebound Ace tennis surface.

Mr French described it as a “real entertainer’s home”.

Image: realestate.com.au

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt’s kids are growing up fast

Celebrity offspring are not too often in the public eye, and for many years this included the three children of Australian power couple Lleyton and Bec Hewitt.

However, the three little tykes we used to see running around during their dad’s high-profile tennis matches are not so little anymore, and each are paving their own path to greatness just like their parents did.

Here is what the brilliant Hewitt kids are up to now.

Mia

Mia is a spitting image of her tennis star dad, but it seems like the 15-year-old has taken after her mother and wants to pursue a career in fashion and modelling.

Back in Bec’s heyday, it was normal to see the Aussie starlet gracing our TV screens, and it seems like Mia is not far behind her mother as she aims to take over runways across the globe.

The eldest child of Bec and Lleyton is a fashion icon in her own right, with her mum labelling Mia as her fashion muse.

"Happy Birthday to my style icon! @miarebeccaofficial," the proud mum wrote an Instagram post last year. Ashley Judd opens up about traumatic incident in Congo jungle

Ashley Judd has gone into detail about her horrific experience after shattering her leg in the Congolese jungle, revealing it was locals who saved her.

The beloved actress, who was in the Congo to track endangered Bonobos, explained that she sustained “massive catastrophic injuries” after tripping over a fallen tree. “What was next was an incredibly harrowing 55 hours,” she said. She then told fans how she lay on the forest floor in agony, with the belief that her “internal bleeding would have likely killed her".

However, she says she owes all her thanks to a man named Dieumerci, who “stretched out his leg and put it under my grossly misshapen left leg to try to keep it still. It was broken in four places and had nerve damage. Dieumerci (“Thanks be to God”) remained seated, without fidgeting or flinching, for five hours on the rainforest floor.”

The actress then described another local man named Papa Jean who spent five hours searching for her, gave her a stick to bite on, then went on to readjust the shattered pieces of her leg.

“It took five hours, but eventually he found me, wretched and wild on the ground, and calmly assessed my broken leg. He told me what he had to do,” she wrote.

“I bit a stick. I held onto Maud. And Papa Jean, with certainty, began to manipulate and adjust my broken bones back into something like a position I could be transported in, while I screamed and writhed. How he did that so methodically while I was like an animal is beyond me. Maradona rode on the very back of the motorbike, I faced him.

“He held my broken leg under the heel and I held the shattered top part together with my two hands. Together we did this for six hours on an irregular, rutted and pocked dirt road that has gullies for rain run off during the rainy season. Maradona was the only person to come forward to volunteer for this task.”

Judd wrote that she made the decision to come forward about the accident as a way to spread the word about “what it means to be Congolese in extreme poverty with no access to health care, any medication for pain, any type of service, or choices.”

“The difference between a Congolese person and me is disaster insurance that allowed me, 55 hours after my accident, to get to an operating table in South Africa,” she says, adding that villages in Congo lack not only electricity but “a simple pill to kill the pain when you’ve shattered a leg in four places and have nerve damage.”

The actress now lies in her hospital bed in South Africa, saying: “I wake up weeping in gratitude, deeply moved by each person who contributed something life giving and spirit salving during my gruelling 55 hour odyssey.”
