Princess Eugenie has delighted royal fans by sharing a fresh collection of family photos as she finally revealed the name of her newborn daughter.
The 36-year-old and husband Jack Brooksbank have named their first little girl Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, with each of her three names carrying a special meaning for the family.
Eugenie shared the happy news on social media alongside intimate new pictures of Adelaide, including adorable shots with her big brothers, five-year-old August and three-year-old Ernest.
The princess said the couple had chosen a name inspired by three people they “love and admire”, spanning both past and present, with Elizabeth paying a particularly touching tribute to Eugenie’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Adelaide also has a strong royal pedigree of its own. Queen Adelaide was the wife of King William IV – and famously gave her name to the South Australian capital – while Maria Adelaide of Portugal provides another historic connection.
Eugenie said the name reflected the family’s affection for both England and Portugal, describing them as two places they love and call home. The couple divides its time between the UK and Portugal, where Brooksbank’s work has taken the family in recent years.
The meaning behind Annina is more personal, with reports indicating it honours a friend of the couple.
Adelaide was born at a hospital in Lisbon on August 3 at 6.20pm, weighing 6lb 9oz – just under three kilograms. Buckingham Palace announced at the time that King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family were delighted by the arrival.
While Eugenie immediately shared her joy at becoming a mum for the third time, she initially introduced the newest Brooksbank simply as “Baby Girl Brooksbank”, keeping her name private for the first fortnight of her life.
Now the wait is over – and it appears Adelaide has already won over her two older brothers.
Eugenie said August and Ernest had quickly settled into their new roles and were already proving to be wonderful big brothers.
The new arrival is Eugenie and Jack’s third child following August, born in February 2021, and Ernest, who arrived in May 2023. Adelaide is also 15th in line to the British throne.
Eugenie and Brooksbank married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in October 2018 after dating for several years.
For now, however, royal duties and history appear to be taking a back seat to life with a newborn, as the family enjoys its first weeks as a party of five – and introduces little Adelaide to the world.
