Nearly four decades, countless hit records and several truly heroic hairstyles later, Kylie and Dannii Minogue have proved some things never change.

The famous sisters have recreated a treasured family photo taken beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1988 – returning to almost exactly the same spot 38 years later to strike the pose all over again.

And, frankly, they nailed it.

Kylie, 58, shared a video of the sweet moment on social media, with the pair standing together in front of one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks and preparing to wind the clock all the way back to the 1980s.

“Okay, we’re here in Paris by the iconic Eiffel Tower and we’re gonna attempt to recreate an iconic photograph from 1988,” Kylie explained.

“Can we do it?”

Dannii, 54, wasn’t quite so confident. “My goodness. I don’t even know if I can pull this face anymore, but let’s try,” she laughed.

“Of course you can!” came the reassuring big-sister reply.

And she could.

After shuffling themselves into position, Kylie counted them in and the sisters recreated the old snap – complete with Dannii’s wonderfully distinctive expression – before promptly cracking up laughing.

The original photograph is pure 1988.

A young Kylie, then around 20 and already a household name thanks to Neighbours, is wearing double denim and sporting the enormous blonde curls that deserve their own place in the Australian pop culture hall of fame.

Teenage Dannii, meanwhile, is dressed in white with her hair tied up in a scrunchie and a portable Walkman in hand.

Thirty-eight years later, things are a little more chic. Kylie wore jeans with a cream jacket, while Dannii opted for an elegant black outfit. The Walkman, sadly, did not survive the journey through time, with a pink iPhone taking its place.

The Eiffel Tower has held up pretty well, too.

“Sisters in Paris and just HAD to recreate this vintage family pic,” Kylie wrote alongside the video. “One frame then. One frame now!!! Nailed it!! LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!”

Fans certainly agreed, flooding the sisters’ post with affection for a moment that was about considerably more than recreating an old photograph.

The Minogues have grown up in public together, navigating extraordinary careers while remaining famously close. Kylie went from Ramsay Street favourite Charlene Mitchell to one of Australia’s biggest international stars, while Dannii forged her own successful career across music and television.

Dannii has previously spoken warmly about how important it has been to have a sister who understands the strange realities of fame.

“There’s nothing quite like having a sibling who understands your job, especially when we started so young and it can be so confronting and intrusive,” she said recently.

“We’ve leaned on each other for good times and bad; sometimes all it takes is a look to know that she’s there for me.”

Perhaps that’s why the new photo feels so lovely.

The clothes have changed, the Walkman has gone and the hair is considerably less committed to defying gravity, but there they are: Kylie and Dannii, still side by side, still laughing and still capable of becoming teenagers again when the right old family photo comes out.

Thirty-eight years between pictures. Some sister acts really do have staying power.
