A dog has been put down after biting a young girl at a Bunnings in regional Victoria.
The girl was bitten on the lower leg at a Bunnings in Delacombe, southwest of Ballarat, about 11.10am on Wednesday.
The girl was treated by paramedics and taken to Ballarat Hospital in a stable condition.
A Bunnings spokesman confirmed the incident and said they would support the ongoing investigation into the incident.
“Our thoughts are with the young girl and her family following an incident at our store,” they told NewsWire.
“We understand the child was bitten by a dog and was treated by emergency services before being taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.
“We will support the relevant authorities with their inquiries.”
Meanwhile, City of Ballarat director of development and growth Natalie Robertson said the council had attended the store and launched an investigation into the attack.
“The City of Ballarat can confirm it attended a dog attack incident in Delacombe on Wednesday morning involving a dog and a young girl,” Robertson said.
She also confirmed the dog had been euthanised with permission from its owners.
“The dog was voluntarily surrendered by its owners for euthanasia, which took place on Wednesday afternoon,” she said.
“The City of Ballarat will conduct a thorough investigation and is unable to comment further while that process is underway.”
