Valerie Perrine has passed away aged 82.

The actress, who played Eve Teschmacher in the Superman films alongside Christopher Reeve, passed away at her home in Beverly Hills on Monday (US time).

Her friend, Stacey Souther, confirmed the sad news in a Facebook post, and confirmed that the actress had died after a “courageous” battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that Valerie has passed away,” the statement began.

“She faced Parkinson’s disease with incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining. She was a true inspiration who lived life to the fullest – and what a magnificent life it was. The world feels less beautiful without her in it.

“I love you, Valerie. I’ll see you on the other side. ❤️”

The post also included a link to a GoFundMe to raise funds for the actress’ funeral and give her the “farewell she deserves” after she exhausted her finances during her 15-year battle with the disease.

Perrine was born in 1943 and started her career as a showgirl at the the Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas in 1968.

Four years later she got her first acting gig as Montana Wildhack in the film adaptation of the Kurt Vonnegut novel Slaughterhouse-Five.

She proceeded to land roles in The Last American Hero and Lenny, which landed her first Oscar nomination for best actress.

Perrine rose to fame in 1978 when she was cast as Eve Teschmacher, Lex Luthor’s love interest in Superman: The Movie. She reprised the role in 1980.
