Tennis legend John McEnroe has been filmed in an encounter with an over eager fan at Melbourne Airport.
The 66-year-old commentator flew out of the country on Monday after completing his duties at the Australian Open.
As he walked into the airport, a fan who was waiting for him, was filmed asking McEnroe: “Do you need a hand with any of your bags?”
The tennis legend, who was carrying a guitar case on his back, replied: “I need you stay away from me, OK?”
However, the fan was insistent and didn’t take no for an answer, following McEnroe as he walked through the airport surrounded by security staff.
The fan kept holding up his phone for a photo, and a visibly exasperated McEnroe said: “This guy, just get away, OK.”
The former tennis player recognised that it was the same fan, and added: “Can we stop him? Hold on for a second. Everyone, stop. Time’s up.”
Instead of moving, the fan got close to the tennis legend and tried to take a selfie and that was the moment McEnroe snapped.
“Will you stop?! Stop! Jesus Christ,” he said. “Are you kidding me?”
While the fan’s attempt at taking a selfie was rejected, the fan concluded: “I still love you John.”
McEnroe was heard muttering: “Go f*** yourself.”
Other fans have shared their thoughts on the interaction on social media, with many of them defending McEnroe.
“Defending Johnny Mac on this one: this dude is a stalker. Enough already. He got some phone pics … let it go.”
“Psycho fan. If someone asks you to stop and leave them alone and give them space, go and f*** right off,” another added.
McEnroe has transitioned into a commentary career following his tennis career where he won seven grand slam singles titles.
One of his most famous moments include shouting “You cannot be serious” at the umpire over a controversial line call at Wimbledon in 1981.
