Matildas star Emily van Egmond and wife Kat Thompson have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl.

“Welcome to the world Maddix Louise Van Egmond,” the couple wrote in an Instagram post shared on Monday night.

In one of the photos, the couple share a glimpse of their newborn wearing a cream knitted onesie with the words “hello world” stitched onto the front.

They also shared a set of polaroids of the couple holding and taking care of their baby girl, as well as a snap from the hospital.

Matildas teammates took to the comments to congratulate the couple, with Sam Kerr and fiancee Kristie Mewis, Charli Grant, Chloe Logarzo, Kyah Simon, Courtney Nevin sending their love.

“The princess is here,” wrote Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord, with Alanna Kennedy writing a similar comment saying: “Little princess,” alongside a pink heart emoji.

“Congratulations!!! Sooo happy for you both,” added Teagan Micah.

“We love Maddix so much,” commented Mackenzie Arnold.

“Gorgeous girl,” added Steph Catley.

The couple tied the knot last December and announced Kat’s pregnancy in April.

Emily, the daughter of former Socceroos player and A-League coach Gary, is the second Matildas player to welcome a child over past few weeks, with teammate Tameka Yallop and wife Kirsty announcing the birth of their second daughter earlier this month.

The news comes just days before the Matildas are set to face England on Wednesday night, in their first match match since 2023.

The two teams have played each other seven times, with the Matildas recording two wins, one draw and four losses.

England defeated the Matildas 3-1 at the  FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-finals in 2023.
