Samantha Armytage has spoken out for the first time about rumours claiming she is set to replace Sarah Abo as co-host of Channel Nine’s Today show alongside Karl Stefanovic.
The TV presenter, who is preparing to host the first season of The Golden Bachelor Australia later this year, appeared on 2GB with Ben Fordham on Thursday, where she was asked about the growing speculation of her return to breakfast television.
“Ben, you know how this game works – these stories get planted, leaked,” the 49-year-old began, before revealing she had recently seen Abo and offered her support amid the headlines.
“Sarah’s wonderful… I saw her at Upfronts – at Nine Upfronts – the other night. We gave each other a hug and I said, ‘Are you okay?’ She’s good. Sarah and Karl are fantastic,” Armytage said.
The former Sunrise host made it clear she’s focused on her new project, saying she’s happy with where her career is now.
“You know how it goes. People talk. But I am very happy in prime time. Golden Bachelor is where it’s at for me, so I’m quite content with my little lot in life,” she asserted.
Her comments come after Abo and Stefanovic appeared at Nine’s annual Upfronts event in Sydney on Wednesday.
The pair arrived together, smiling and walking side by side as they entered the venue. Stefanovic placed a reassuring hand on Abo’s waist, while she draped her arm over his shoulder in a brief embrace – a small but noticeable show of unity amid the rumours.
The event, which showcases the network’s programming for the year ahead, was overshadowed by reports suggesting Abo could soon be replaced by Armytage.
This comes after a report last weekend claimed the 49-year-old former Sunrise host was in secret talks to join Today as Stefanovic’s new co-host.
