A Melbourne paramedic has won more than 250 meat raffle trays in five years, earning himself the nickname Sir Loin.
Stu’s winning streak has become something of a local legend, with his latest standout effort seeing him take home six trays in one night at Moama RSL.
“They weren’t talking to me as I left,” he told A Current Affair.
His unusual hobby began during a family holiday in Queensland about 10 years ago. Since then, he has built an impressive collection of meat raffle prizes, even getting a tattoo to mark his passion.
In 2026 alone, Stu has won 99 meat trays. His friends have challenged him to reach 106 by the end of the year, while a leaderboard in what he calls his man cave keeps track of his rivalry with them.
Inside his man cave, there are also freezers to store his winnings.
Stu shared his typical daily diet, which consists of chicken sausages, bacon and rissoles for breakfast, usually meat-based meals for lunch, and pork chops, chicken skewers or a roast for dinner.
His wife Kerryn and daughter Alice are also learning to accommodate his passion when planning family holidays.
The family is preparing for a Christmas caravanning trip, but while the girls want to visit the sights, Stu has other destinations in mind.
“When he plans where we’re going, he’s like ‘Oh, I found this wonderful camping place’ and as soon as we get there, it’s always where a meat raffle is,” Kerryn said.
Stu said his approach was to support the venues and charities hosting the raffles.
“If you want to win, you’ve got to put your money in so put a bit of extra in, support the charities and support the pubs and get out there,” he said.
His success has even prompted someone to investigate whether he could be recognised by the Guinness World Records.
“Apparently there’s no meat raffle record,” Stu said. “So, I don’t know, maybe I’m a chance.”
During his interview with A Current Affair he also attempted to win his 100th tray this year, but he missed out.
“Stuck on 99 but there’s always next week,” he said.
“Just like a test match, one week, one over, we’ll get to it.”
