Robert Irwin has shared a moving clip of the moment he released two sea turtles back into the ocean following eight months of rehabilitation.

The wildlife conservationist was all smiles as he battled the strong waves and worked with his team to return the turtles back into their natural habitat.

“What a special moment,” Robert said.

“Today we released two beautiful sea turtles back to the wild after undergoing months of rehabilitation. ‘Lilly Pilly’ and ‘Flippy’.

“Our sea turtle recovery centre provides life-saving care and is an integral part of our wildlife hospital. These two lucky turtles now have a second chance at life.”

Robert looked proud as he watched the turtle swim away.

Some fans were moved to tears watching the special moment.

“Oh, Robert. I’m bawling. This is just so so wonderful. Congrats to the team,” one person shared in the comments.

“This is so amazing to see after coming to your animal hospital and seeing these majestic turtles being rehabilitated and now returned to the wild. You guys are heroes,” added another.

“What an absolutely beautiful experience! Life goals to do this work right here. Amazing job as always,” wrote a third.

Australia Zoo’s wildlife hospital has treated more than 136,000 animals between 2004 to 2024, with birds making up almost half of that number.

The facility is equipped with a surgical theatre, X-ray room, intensive care units, and pathology lab, with animals receiving ongoing support as they recover from their injuries or surgery.

“Whether it’s a kangaroo hit by a car, a koala joey that has lost it’s mum, or a sea turtle that has ingested plastic, the team have the tools and know-how to get them back into the wild,” the Wildlife Warriors website read.

It’s become “one of the world’s largest and busiest purpose-built wildlife hospitals”.
