A woman has confronted a group of e-bike riders in Melbourne after one allegedly kicked the door of a car, with the heated exchange captured on video.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Normanby Road and Montague Street in South Melbourne, where a group of riders was blocking a turning lane.
Footage shows a female passenger opening the door of a blue SUV and chasing after a rider who appears to kick it. She pushes the rider before dodging a swing from another teenager and throwing a punch in response.
The confrontation continues as a third rider approaches a driver from the other side of the vehicle. The woman then turns her attention to the group, visibly angry as they gradually disperse.
A man filming the incident can be heard reacting in disbelief.
“She’s going to grab them, no way … oh my god, she’s having a crack at them,” he said.
“She’s gone f**king nuts … what a weapon.”
The footage has prompted mixed reactions, with some people praising the woman for standing up to the riders.
“Good on her,” one person commented.
“Give the lady a medal,” another wrote.
A third said: “Where is this lady? I want to buy her a bourbon. Go girl”.
Others expressed concern about her safety, particularly given reports of people being injured while intervening in alleged youth crime.
“So it’s got past the point where the law’s not dealing with it so a female is putting her life at risk,” one commenter said.
The confrontation comes amid ongoing concerns about groups of young e-bike riders gathering for ride outs across Melbourne.
Videos of previous incidents have shown riders weaving through traffic, blocking roads and performing stunts between moving vehicles.
In May, hundreds of teenagers on a rideout swarmed the ground floor of a Southbank apartment complex before performing high-speed stunts on nearby streets, with some appearing to struggle to maintain control of their bikes.
While such gatherings are often organised as social rides, the behaviour of some participants has raised concerns about road safety and the impact on other members of the public.
