John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s son Sean has become a dad for the first time, welcoming a baby boy with his longtime partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
And in news certain to bring a smile to Beatles fans around the world, the newest addition to one of music’s most famous families has been given the rather magnificent name Aurelius.
Sean Ono Lennon, 50, announced the happy news on social media, sharing a gorgeous family photograph of himself and Charlotte, 39, cradling their newborn son.
“Okay so… Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean!” Sean wrote.
“His name is, Aurelius! Thank you!”
The couple have not revealed exactly when little Aurelius arrived, but Sean shared several glimpses of the family’s first days together, including a sweet photograph of himself holding his son and another of Charlotte cuddling the newborn in her hospital bed.
“Baby Momma!” the proud new dad captioned the latter.
Charlotte, a musician and model, was equally delighted – if already discovering one of the less glamorous realities of new parenthood.
“We made a human!” she wrote, before joking that sleep deprivation was adding to the surreal experience and asking followers for their best baby-burping tips.
She also revealed that Aurelius is already being introduced to a suitably eclectic musical education, with Aphex Twin and Stravinsky reportedly featuring on his early playlist.
With John Lennon as his grandfather and Yoko Ono as his grandmother, perhaps the little fellow never really had much chance of growing up on nursery rhymes alone.
The birth is particularly significant for the Lennon family, with Aurelius becoming John Lennon’s first biological grandchild.
Sean’s older half-brother Julian Lennon was among those celebrating the arrival, responding to the announcement with four heart emojis.
Sean’s reply was just as sweet: “Uncle Jules!”
Plenty of famous friends also joined the celebrations, with music legend Patti Smith telling Sean how happy she was for the couple, while Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were among those sending their congratulations.
Sean and Charlotte have been together for almost two decades, having first met at the Coachella music festival in 2005 before beginning their relationship in 2007.
Music has been a major part of their lives together. The pair formed the band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and have collaborated on numerous projects, while Sean has built his own career as a musician, songwriter and producer.
He has also increasingly become a custodian of his parents’ extraordinary musical legacy.
Sean was born on October 9, 1975 – his father John’s 35th birthday – and was just five years old when the former Beatle was murdered in New York in December 1980.
Now, more than half a century after Sean’s own arrival was celebrated by John and Yoko, the Lennon family has welcomed another generation.
And while Aurelius may be a very big name for one very little boy, he has certainly been born into a family accustomed to making its mark.
