Alex de Minaur has tied the knot with his partner Katie Boulter, just one week after losing to Flavio Cobolli at Wimbledon.
The tennis player married his partner on Sunday, and the low-key wedding took place at a church near Boulter’s family home in Old Woodhouse, Leicestershire Village.
It has been reported that only family and close friends were in attendance.
The news of their marriage sparked discussion online, as the wedding took place during the Wimbledon men’s final.
Some people commented on the wedding date and questioned what would have happened if de Minaur had made it into the finals.
“World No.5 ranked player planning their wedding for the day of the Wimbledon final … the ATP is absolutely cooked,” one fan said.
De Minaur has never made it to the last four of a grand slam tournament, and some questioned whether he has enough belief in himself
“He really didn’t have much belief he would make the final kind of tells its own story,” another added.
“So they both knew they wouldn’t make it to the Wimbledon final,” a third commented.
“Neither planned on being in the Wimbledon finals then,” a fourth added.
“He knew he’d be available that day a year in advance,” another added.
However fans were quick to defend the tennis player, calling out the negative commentary and congratulating the couple.
“Congrats to both! Shame on the haters — this is not about tennis — this is about celebrating their union & love which most haters are desperate for,” one said.
“Great to see De Minaur’s big smile again. Tennis has injected a lot of pain in him recently,” another added.
On Monday, the tennis player also reached a career-best fifth in the ATP world rankings.
He is the first Australian man to make the top five in 17 years and the seventh Australian man to make the list following Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, John Newcombe, Pat Cash, Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt.
