Mel Schilling’s husband, Gareth Brisbane, has shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late wife on their wedding anniversary.
The Married At First Sight expert passed away earlier this year at the age of 53 following a years-long cancel battle.
She is survived by her husband and her young daughter, Maddie.
On Tuesday, Gareth marked the bittersweet moment they tied the knot nearly a decade ago, in a post shared on social media.
“Ah my one,” he began in the post.
“Hard to reconcile that the anniversary of the happiest day of my life could become one of the saddest,” he continued.
“We didn’t quite make 8 years married or 15 years together, but what a love and what a life we had.
“By the end of our first date, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, and my love for you burned ever brighter, even as your own light faded.
“Sleep easy, my girl.”
He shared a photo of them sharing their first kiss as husband and wife from their wedding day.
Gareth then shared an update on how the family were coping, sharing that he and Maddie were in the “best possible place to continue healing”, following their move from the UK to Bali earlier this year.
“She is every inch your daughter and you would be so proud of the remarkable young woman she is becoming,” he continued.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Shortly after Mel’s death, Gareth revealed he had scattered some of her ashes at a lighthouse in Northern Ireland, as part of her final wish.
“It’s a special place that really resonated with her, a place where strangers say hello as you pass, and a place we can now come back to reflect on our incredible 15 years together,” he said at the time.
He added that the ceremony celebrating her life was attended by family and close friends.
“Thanks so much for all the messages of support over the past month since our girl’s passing, Maddie and I have drawn enormous strength from how so very loved she was and is,” he said at the time.
Mel had appeared on nearly every season of Married At First Sight as a relationship expert on the show. Shortly before her death, she announced that she was taking a step back from the programme to focus on her health.
