AFL legend Tony Modra has finally been discharged and is recovering at home following his freak truck crash.

The 57-year-old was driving a truck near his cattle property in Adelaide last month when a fallen tree branch crashed through the windshield, leaving him with head and facial injuries.

Modra was initially in a critical condition and required multiple surgeries, but has been steadily recovering.

The AFL community have rallied around the legendary goalkicker, with Modra revealing he was grateful for the support.

“Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness and care shown to me and my family,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I have left hospital to continue my recovery at home and only now starting to wrap my head around the incredible amount of support and well wishes that have come our way.

“I remain deeply grateful to the members of the public who gave me vital first aid until professional help arrived, to others who offered reassurance, and to the emergency responders, medical staff and specialists who have cared for me since the accident,” he continued.

“My progress has been encouraging and we kindly ask that our privacy continues to be respected as we focus on my rehabilitation. Thank you.”

Two weeks prior, the Crows and Fremantle great shared his support for players ahead of the AFL Showdown.

“G’day everybody, I’m really looking forward to watching tonight’s Showdown,” he said in a pre-recorded message.

“I’ve heard I’ve had a lot of support, not just Crows fans but Port fans as well, so I’d just like to thank everybody.

“Hope everyone has a great night tonight, looking forward to the friendly banter and the two teams putting on a great show for Australia.

“Enjoy the game and make sure you drive home safe.”

Modra was one of the biggest names in the 90s’, kicking 588 goals in 165 AFL games for Adelaide and Fremantle between 1992 and 2001.
