Queensland Police confirmed on Tuesday about midday that Kym Mackinnon had died, after Simmone Jade Mackinnon made an emotional public appeal a day earlier to help find her missing sister.
“Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the non-suspicious death of a woman at Tamborine Mountain,” a police spokesperson said. “There is no further information at this time.”
On Monday, the McLeod’s Daughters star posted to Instagram in a desperate effort to locate Kym, revealing she had not been seen for days. According to Simmone’s message, Kym was last seen on Guanaba Road, Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
“Have you seen my sister?” Simmone wrote in the post, which included a photo and a description intended to help with the search. Kym is 51, 165 centimetres tall, with a very slim build, dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.
Simmone also pleaded with people to circulate the appeal widely.
“Please share this post ESPECIALLY if you are in Queensland,” she wrote.
Anyone with information on Kym’s whereabouts was urged to contact Queensland Police’s Policelink on 131 444 and quote case file QP2601680614.
The actress is widely known for playing fan-favourite Stevie Hall on the much-loved Australian drama McLeod’s Daughters. She is also recognised for her work in Baywatch Hawaii and has received several TV WEEK Logie Award nominations, including for the Gold Logie.
After Simmone shared the appeal, hundreds of supporters filled the comments with messages of care from friends and fans alike.
The Floor Australia host Rodger Corser wrote: “Dear Simmy, can only imagine how you’re feeling right now. Much love, Sharing now x”, while actress Rachael Coopes commented: “Shared. Love to you Sim xxxx”
American actress and model Brandy Ledford also responded, writing: “Oh honey I’m so sorry. Ugh. Call me if you want to talk. I love you ❤️”, and Kaye Tuckerman added: “Thinking of you ❤️”
