Two Staffordshire bull terrier  puppies have been stolen from an animal shelter in Brisbane.

Queensland police said unknown offenders gained entry to the Warra Animal Rehoming Centre, on Telegraph Road, Fitzgibbon, just before midnight on Tuesday.

The offenders stole two puppies named Goose and Kryptos and fled the scene.

The Warra Animal Rehoming Centre, a shelter run by the Animal Welfare League Queensland was closed for the day on Wednesday.

According to pet cost calculator PawCost, Staffordshire bull terriers typically sell for between $2,000 and $5,000 from a registered breeder.

They cost less when adopted from an animal shelter or rescue, usually between $200 and $450.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information that could help locate the two pups.
