A mother has gone viral after sharing her teenage daughter’s reaction to receiving a brand new Honda for graduating high school, and many online were stunned by what unfolded.

The mum posted a screenshot of their text exchange on Instagram after noticing her daughter did not seem pleased with the gift.

“You didn’t seem like you liked the car?” the concerned mother wrote.

Her daughter replied bluntly: “I don’t,” before explaining, “I was expecting to get a [Mercedes] Benz or a BMW.”

She continued: “I appreciate you mom but it’s just not my style. You drive a G Wagon so me driving a basic Honda is weird.”

The mother was clearly upset by the response and did not hold back.

“You realise you just graduated high school, right? You have a roof over your head, you don’t have to pay bills, college is paid for, you don’t have to rush and leave home, your life is set.

“So to sit up and tell me you don’t like a car I paid CASH for is crazy. That’s VERY ungrateful. Actually, you don’t appreciate me. If you appreciated me you would drive the car and not storm off with an attitude and leave!

“If you’re not going to drive the car, I will sell it.”

She also said she is 45 and worked hard to be able to buy herself a G Wagon, while her daughter is still a teenager and has not “worked hard for anything yet”.

The daughter’s reply only added to the outrage.

“Just sell it ma. I don’t want it.”

Social media users quickly weighed in, with many criticising the teenager’s sense of entitlement and sympathising with the mother.

“Keep the car. Sell the kid,” one person joked.

Another wrote: “I’ll be your kid, I can cook.”

A third commenter said: “I feel so bad for the mom. Her heart must be so sore.”

One person shared their own experience, writing: “Man when I was 17 my dad made me get a job save up 2000 and had me pick out a car from impound.”

Another suggested: “Humble her and put her in a hooptie.”
