A 60-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car while helping an injured kangaroo on the Monaro Highway in NSW.
Jane Faulder was hit by a vehicle on the highway about one kilometre south of Bredbo, in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, at 6.30pm on Friday.
Residents from the area said she was trying to move the kangaroo to stop a crash when she was hit by a car.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but unfortunately she could not be saved.
A 54-year-old motorist was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, with an investigation into the crash still ongoing.
Tributes have poured in for Faulder, who alongside her love for animals and rescue work, had a love for calisthenics and served on various committees and worked as a volunteer writer for the sport.
An Australian Calsthenics Federation said she was a beloved member of their community.
“Jane had just celebrated her 50th competitive year in callisthenics, a remarkable milestone that speaks to a lifelong love of our sport,” a social media post stated.
“Her passion was infectious – as was her laugh – and she brought joy, friendship, warmth and a true sense of community to everyone who knew her.
“Jane was everyone’s champion. She was the first to lift others up, cheering on competitors from every club and celebrating their successes.
“Away from callisthenics, Jane’s other great love was her animals. She worked tirelessly in foster and rescue work, giving countless animals the care and second chance they deserved.”
Faulder was also a member of the Queanbeyan Players, who also shared a tribute.
“Jane was a part of the Queanbeyan Players family and was seen on stage over the last decade as an enthusiastic and much loved member of the companies of Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and The Sound of Music,” a statement read.
“Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.”
