A Perth grandmother has been left devastated after thieves stole her life savings in a “brazen” daylight burglary.
A group of people forced their way inside Bee Scott’s home in Gosnell on May 28, where she had been living for more than three decades.
In an interview with Nine, Bee said the group had broken in through the back door of her home and rummaged through drawers and personal items, where they eventually a hidden safe containing $200,000 cash and $150,000 worth of sentimental jewellery.
“I just feel devastated, I feel like what’s the point in going on, I’m even too frightened to leave the house,” she said.
“How would they like it to happen to their mother or their grandmother or their wife?”
Bee’s daughter Shireen Scott said her mum, who has lived a “very frugal” life, had been working at the time of the burglary.
“She was working at the time, she was cleaning houses,” she said. “She still works to get that security.”
“These people are lazy and think they are entitled to take people’s property, but not only that they’ve destroyed her security, living independently on her own, they’ve robbed her of everything.”
The grandmother, who is in her 80s, hopes someone might recognise her belongings, including a sovereign necklace that she had bought at just 17 when she was in London.
“It was so brazen in the middle of the day, prepared, dragging a heavy safe,” Shireen added.
Police believe more than one person was involved in the burglary and are working to figure out how they carried the safe out of the home without anyone noticing.
They are asking anyone with information or those in the area with CCTV and dashcam to check for footage between 7.30am and 1.30pm on May 28.
“We’re doing everything we can to solve this, and hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” WA Police detective Kyle Vander Linden said.
“One male was walking in the area who was wearing a black cap, black and white jacket with gold writing on the back,” he added.
“ … Detectives would like to speak to this male, as we believe he might have seen something.”
