The entertainment world is mourning the sudden loss of actor Patrick Muldoon, who has died at the age of 57.

Muldoon is believed to have suffered a heart attack, according to industry publication Deadline, bringing a shock end to a career that spanned decades across television and film.

Born in California, Muldoon rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his role as Austin Reed in the long-running US soap Days of Our Lives. He first appeared on the show from 1992 to 1995, before returning nearly two decades later to reprise the beloved character from 2011 to 2012.

He went on to build a steady career in both television and cinema, with notable roles in Melrose Place and the cult science fiction film Starship Troopers. Earlier in his career, Muldoon made appearances in Who’s the Boss? and Saved by the Bell, helping establish him as a familiar face on screens throughout the 1990s.

While he found his greatest success during the 1990s and 2000s, Muldoon remained active in the industry, continuing to take on roles and expand his work behind the camera. His latest film, Dirty Hands, is set to be released later this year.

In addition to acting, Muldoon carved out a career as a producer, working on a range of projects including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful and Riff Raff. His most recent producing credit was Kockroach, a film currently in production starring Chris Hemsworth and Taron Edgerton.

Tragically, Muldoon had shared his excitement about the project just two days before his death. In a post on Instagram, he wrote that he was “so excited” to be part of the film, which is being shot in Australia, adding the hashtag “#producer” alongside a photo of a casting announcement.

The post now stands as a poignant final glimpse into a career that remained active and forward-looking until the very end.

Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart, his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr, and his sister Shana.
