Bunnings is embracing Halloween like never before, unveiling its first “scarehouse” experience at the company’s Alexandria store in Sydney’s inner west.

The popular hardware chain has transformed the store into a themed pop-up filled with eerie decorations and interactive animatronics from its Halloween range.

The attraction features four distinct rooms – a shadowy graveyard, a witch’s lair, a twisted funhouse and a pumpkin patch – designed to immerse visitors in the spirit of the season.

Beyond the decorations, families can enjoy dress-ups, DIY workshops, trick-or-treat stations, face painting, petting zoos and themed games across selected stores.

Bunnings chief operating officer Ryan Baker said the company was excited to provide a safe and engaging experience for the community as more Australians embrace Halloween celebrations.

“Last year, we saw more than 57,000 attendees at our Halloween family nights, and this year we’re making the celebrations even bigger and better as more Aussies embrace the spirit of the spooky season, including our first ever scarehouse in NSW,” Baker said.

The scarehouse will operate for three days, opening on October 28 between 5pm and 7pm, while Bunnings’ nationwide Halloween Family Night will take place on October 30, featuring spooky activities and entertainment across stores.

Bunnings research shows one in five Australians plan to celebrate Halloween this year, with around 75 per cent of celebrations involving children.

However, one in four participants cited safety concerns as a reason for avoiding traditional trick-or-treating, with stranger danger and traffic listed among the main worries.

Baker said the company’s goal was to offer a safe alternative for families looking to celebrate.

The retailer has significantly expanded its Halloween range in recent years, following the launch of its first spooky products in 2023.

“We have increased our Halloween range by threefold, offering everything from interactive animatronics and family favourite Disney inflatables to the traditional pumpkins, lanterns and creepy crawlers – anything that brings the ‘wow’ factor to the front facade,” Mr Baker said.

“Lighting has also proven to be very popular among customers this year who are enjoying our solar stake and string lights.”
