Home and Away star Alea O’Shea has undergone another surgery amid her ongoing battle with brain cancer.
The 25-year-old actress was diagnosed last year, and has been undergoing a number of treatments to beat the illness.
Since then, her fans and love ones have come together to support the actress, with one friend, Lauren Newton, organising a fundraising page for O’Shea to help ease the financial pressure of medical treatments and expenses.
“Over the past months, Alea has been bravely facing brain cancer and the many treatments that come with it,” Newton wrote.
“Last week she underwent another surgery as part of her ongoing fight. While her courage has never wavered, the journey has been incredibly challenging for both Alea and her family.
“Many people in our community have been asking how they can help. This page has been created to give friends, family, and the wider community a way to support Alea by helping ease the financial pressure of medical treatments and related expenses.”
The fundraising goal was originally $80,000 but as of Tuesday, it has exceeded that total and the goal has since gone up to $90,000.
O’Shea has also raised awareness and support for other women undergoing the same journey, starting her own fundraiser for other patients’ to receive access to high-quality wigs.
“Her generosity of spirit in the midst of such a difficult time has moved so many of us,” Newton wrote on O’Shea’s fundraising page.
O’Shea who plays Darcy Callahan on Home and Away announced her diagnosis on social media in November.
“This is a video I obviously thought I’d never have to make, but I’ve recently been diagnosed with brain cancer,” she said at the time. “It’s been a crazy few weeks.”
“If there’s one thing I want anyone to takeaway from this video, it’s advocate for yourself,” she added.
“When something feels off, even slightly, pay attention to it and find the right professionals who will take you seriously.”
