Dezi Freeman has been shot dead by police after more than seven months on the run.

The 56-year-old was found on Monday morning and shot by heavily armed police, bringing an end to the extensive search for the accused cop killer, according to 7News.

Police confirmed he was shot dead at a rural address shortly after 8.30am.

“No police officers were injured during the incident,” police said.

“The State Coroner will attend the scene and the investigation will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per standard process for a police shooting.

“Further information will be released today as the situation develops.”

Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 34 were shot and killed, and a third officer was injured, as they were executing a warrant at Freeman’s Porepunkah property last August.

Freeman fled into bushland and extensive searches alongside a $1 million dollar reward for information were offered in the hunt for the fugitive.

Police will provide further information in a press conference at 11am.
