Dion announced her retirement in 2022 after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the person’s own nervous system.
The disorder causes the muscles to go into a state of constant rigidity, with sudden and painful spasms that can be triggered by even simple things like loud noise, sudden movement or stress.
In 2022 the singer was also set to restart a tour of North America that had been postponed to due to Covid, but had to cancel the tour due to her illness.
She has since stayed out of the spotlight as she continues her battle with the incurable disease, with one of her last performances in 2024 at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.
