Pauline Hanson was confronted by a group of protesters during a visit to Rundle Mall in Adelaide, where she had been meeting voters ahead of the South Australian election.
The One Nation leader was walking through the shopping precinct with party candidate Cory Bernardi and Sky News host Chris Kenny, speaking with members of the public.
Footage showed a number of people approaching the group to take photos and express support.
After leaving the mall, the trio entered a nearby café, where they were met by a small group of protesters.
About half a dozen people gathered outside holding signs reading “migrants are welcome, racists are not” and chanting: “Pauline Hanson go to hell, take your rich mates there as well”.
Kenny recorded the interaction and later shared his account of the incident.
“Look what happens when we made sure that Pauline could get out safely into a taxi,” Kenny told Sky News viewers.
“Even with all the chanting and nastiness going on around her, some supporters, at least three of them, came up to the taxi to offer their support to Hanson, Bernardi and One Nation.
“Even the feral protesters couldn’t stop the One Nation supporters.”
Earlier in the day, Hanson and Bernardi had spoken with voters in the mall.
One young man described it as a “lucky time” to meet the One Nation leader as he shook her hand.
A security guard at the shopping centre, when asked if he was considering voting for the party, said “absolutely”, adding One Nation was “standing up for Australians and Australian values”.
“All the grief that you guys cop, I’ve been following you both… keep at it, keep at it,” the security guard said.
“I’m proud to be an Australian. I’ve been to a lot of third world nations and so I really understand how lucky we are to be here in Australia. So keep up the good fight.”
Another passerby said Hanson had previously given his father an Australian flag.
“I’m so proud of you both,” he said, adding that he had already voted for One Nation.
When asked why he voted for the party, the supporter said: “Because we need our country back mate, that’s why”.
