Prince William shared a previously unseen childhood photograph of himself with his late mother Princess Diana, as he paid tribute on Mother’s Day in the UK.

The Prince of Wales marked the day on March 15 by posting the image from his private collection on Instagram.

The photograph, taken in 1984 at Highgrove House, showed a two-year-old William holding hands with Princess Diana as they walked through a field of flowers.

“Remembering my mother, today and every day. Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W,” he captioned the post.

Princess Diana died in 1997 when William was 15 years old.

As families across Britain marked the day, King Charles III and Queen Camilla also shared a message on social media.

“Wishing Mothers everywhere, and those who might be missing their Mums today, a restful Mothering Sunday,” they wrote alongside photos of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Camilla with her mother, Rosalind Shand.

One black-and-white photograph from 1953 showed the late Queen seated on a bench with King Charles and his sister, Princess Anne, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, with one of the Queen’s corgis visible in the background.

Meanwhile, Princess Kate, who shares Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with Prince William, did not post a public Mother’s Day message on the couple’s joint Instagram account this year.

However, she has previously spoken about the importance of motherhood, particularly following her cancer diagnosis and during her recovery.

In 2025, she used the occasion to reflect on the healing power of nature.

“Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time.

“This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life,” she wrote.
