Two teenagers have been charged following an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of a 72-year-old woman from a home in Sydney’s south-west in November.
NSW Police established Strike Force Kegar after the woman was allegedly abducted from a property on St Johns Road in Cabramatta.
Police say an armed group of five men forced their way into the home and detained the woman. A second woman, aged 75, was later found with minor injuries and taken to hospital after reportedly being held for two days during the incident.
As part of the investigation, detectives seized two vehicles and executed crime scene warrants at properties in Carramar and Revesby, which investigators believe may have been used as strongholds connected to the alleged kidnapping.
Police made their first arrest about 11am yesterday after searching a property in West Kempsey. An 18-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to Kempsey Police Station.
He has been charged with several offences linked to the alleged abduction, including special aggravated breaking and entering while armed with a weapon. The teenager was refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Fairfield Local Court next month.
Later the same day, detectives searched another property on Yampi Place in Cartwright, where a 16-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
The younger teenager was also charged with multiple offences relating to the alleged kidnapping, including special aggravated breaking and entering while armed. He was refused bail and is due to appear at a Children’s Court.
Investigations under Strike Force Kegar remain ongoing as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and the involvement of other suspects.
