David Schumacher, 24, has married fellow racing driver Vivien Keszthelyi, 25, in an intimate ceremony in Salzburg.

The couple shared the news with family and fans in a series of photographs from the historic Schloss Mirabell.

David – the son of former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher and nephew of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher – wed the Hungarian-born driver on Friday in the palace Marble Hall.

Only close friends and family attended the civil ceremony.

“Officially Mr & Mrs,” David captioned an Instagram post announcing the marriage.

“We said ‘I do’ surrounded by the love of our family and closest friends – and it meant everything.”

The couple live together in nearby Hallwang, where David grew up, after Keszthelyi relocated from Budapest. David proposed less than four months ago during a trip to the Maldives.

For the ceremony, David wore a cream suit, while Keszthelyi chose a white tulle gown with a floral strapless corsage and sweeping train.

The venue also holds personal significance for his family. David’s parents Ralf and Cora Schumacher married at the same Salzburg location in 2001, in what was then a high-profile motorsport wedding.

Ralf Schumacher attended the wedding and reposted the couple’s photographs with a heart emoji and the words: “A beautiful day.”

David’s mother, Cora, was not in attendance.

In a statement shared with the Daily Mail, she said she was unaware of the ceremony beforehand and described her sadness.

“David said ‘Mama’ to me thousands of times a day when he was still a little boy,” she said.

“Every time he called out ‘Mama’, my heart would beat just that little bit faster, with nothing but joy and love. I believe every mother can understand that feeling.

“I wish nothing but the very best for my son. That has always been the case and it will always remain so. I hope he experiences the most beautiful day of his life to the fullest, and above all, that he is happy.”

She added: “As a mother, I am not angry with my son – I am simply deeply saddened that things are the way they are.”

Cora said her partner, Steven Bo Bekendam, was supporting her.

“I am grateful to be in a wonderful relationship,” she said. “Although it is a long-distance relationship between Germany and America, Steven gives me an incredible amount of strength and support during this difficult time.”

David and Cora have been estranged since her separation from Ralf in 2015.

Tensions escalated in 2024 when Ralf publicly confirmed he was in a relationship with French politician Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne.

David later addressed the situation in a since-deleted social media post, writing: “leave us alone and let us live our lives.”

“I gave my mother several chances and tried several times to reconcile with her. Unfortunately, it never worked. I always refused because I don’t have the energy or the desire to go through the same thing again.”

The wedding comes as the Schumacher family continues to mark milestones more than a decade after Michael Schumacher’s skiing accident in 2013, which left him with a severe brain injury. He has not appeared in public since.
