Veteran film director Steven Spielberg has added a Grammy Award to his career honours, completing the rare EGOT distinction for artists who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Spielberg received the Grammy for best music film for producing the documentary Music by John Williams.
The award was presented during the 68th Grammy Awards premiere ceremony in Los Angeles late on Sunday (local time).
The award for song written for visual media went to Golden from KPop Demon Hunters, marking the first time a K-pop act has won a Grammy.
The song’s writers delivered their acceptance speech in both English and Korean, highlighting its bilingual reach.
The pre-telecast ceremony, held at the adjacent Peacock Theatre, opened with host and musician Darren Criss presenting the first award of the day.
The prize for best pop/duo group performance went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for Defying Gravity, though neither artist were present to accept the award.
A total of 86 Grammys were scheduled to be presented during the pre-broadcast ceremony.
Yungblud won his first Grammy for rock performance for his cover of Black Sabbath’s Changes (live from Villa Park), which he performed at Ozzy Osbourne’s final show.
Hardcore band Turnstile also scored their first Grammy, winning rock album and later metal performance.
“To Baltimore, thank you, we love you,” frontman Brendan Yates said.
The Cure won alternative music performance but were unable to attend, as they were at the funeral of Perry Archangelo Bamonte, the band’s long-time guitarist and keyboardist, who died last month.
