Oprah Winfrey has continued her Australian tour with a heart-warming surprise visit to an 80th birthday party in Brisbane
The TV icon arrived in Brisbane over the weekend for the next leg of her Oprah In Conversation speaking tour. Soon after landing, she stopped by the CBD Hotel, where a group of locals were celebrating the milestone birthday of South Brisbane dance teacher Clarissa Hill.
After spotting a sign for the party outside the venue, Oprah decided to walk in unannounced and even carried the birthday cake for the dance teacher, as party guests began singing.
The 71-year-old TV host shared a clip of the moment to Instagram.
“First stop in Brisbane? Crashing Ms. Hill’s 80th birthday… after seeing a sign outside for her birthday party!” she began in the caption.
“She’s a beloved dance teacher in South Brisbane who’s shaped generations. And those students came together to celebrate this milestone. What a joyful start to my visit.”
The surprise left Clarissa speechless at first, as Oprah started talking to her.
“How do you feel on this milestone day? Can you believe it?” the US star asked.
Clarissa soon gathered herself and thanked the special guest.
“That was wonderful,” she said. “Thank you so much.”
Before leaving, Oprah offered her a warm message: “I honour you on this day. I hope that at this time in your life, you take the opportunity to sit with your friends, your family and your former students, and truly feast on your life.”
Guests then took photos with Oprah, while Clarissa, the owner of a well-known dance studio in Brisbane, showed off a few of her dance moves.
This is Oprah’s first time back in Australia in 10 years, and she has already visited several spots that have been recommended by her friends, including those from Hugh Jackman.
She has also been spotted enjoying local walks, including the Wattamolla to Eagle Rock track in Sydney’s south and the popular Waterfall Gully hike in Adelaide.
After Brisbane, Oprah will head to Melbourne before wrapping up her tour in New Zealand.
